Needs to breathe or be decanted for about an hour. Tight on the pnp, but opens up to brighter cherry and a bit of spice. Glass one had a lack of length, other than a touch of minerality. This has happened before with this wine. After a bit there's a medium plus finish of cherry and spice. A very solid $13 bottle of wine, just decant for an hour. BIG payoff by doing so. 88-89 pts.
Deep, ruby color, clear and luminous, pink halo showing a remarkably young appearance for its age. Exhuberant nose, leafy, fruity. Full body, silky texture, perfect balance. Surprizingly high level of tannin and acidity in perfect balance with the abundant fruit. Plums, blackcurrant, mint, blackberries, all very ripe. A complete and delicious wine, at prime in 2014.
After one glass on day 1 it was unimpressive, showing like a one dimensional Cab wannabe. Day 2 it was a different wine. Coloring is brick red with an orange tint when you swirl it. A clear wine, which I like. Nose is earthy, almost Bordeaux like. Dark cherry with some oak, but everything went together. Some traces of heat. Next time I'll decant an hour or more.
Didn't take my own advice from 9/5/11 note, and remembered late when it was almost gone. My fault. Should've decanted this one an hour before Easter dinner. Really opened up by the time by glass was almost empty. Decant this one and be patient... it really pays off. See previous note. 89 pts.
