La Grand Rue Dinner (Iggy's, Hilton Hotel, Singapore): This was the nicest of the trio of 1996, 1997 and 1998 Grand Rue. The nose had a lovely Vosne character to it, with notes of sweet dark cherries, earth, meat and fragrant Vosne spices. The palate, while not as fine as the top Vosne Grand Crus, was actually really quite pleasant, with velvety tannins and decent acidity forming a solid backdrop for snappy flavours of red cherries and darker berries and a nice touch of spice. Decent finish, good balance, if just a little lacking in oomph and depth for a Grand Cru. A pleasant drink though, and showing well now.

Nose of cherry, toasted almonds, slight musk; constant, consistent, lingering, enveloping, long finish Later: Nose of wet velvet, blackberry, chestnut; velvety fruit, high pitched, engaging, enticing, enveloping, without substantial depth or complexity but very pleasant persistent lingering fruit 1 Hour: Animalistic musk emerges on nose; still engaging, fruitful, absorbing; almost full bodied 1.5 Hours: Tart fruit, sour blackberry, mulberry; ten minutes later animal musk taste

Great nose of mushrooms, sous bois, and nice body as well - just slightly slim but at this stage still good fruit presence. However, had about 40mins where it showed well, afterwards dried out. Would drink these remaining bottles soon.

Medium red color, medium transparency. Sweet red fruit aromas with inviting floral and spice accents. Palate is open straight from the bottle with sweet strawberry and cherry fruit joined by star anise and rhubarb. Fades with time in the glass, but classy for the first hour it was open. Drink.

Couple of dinners at Troquet; 9/7/2011-9/8/2011 (Troquet - Boston MA): Very pretty nose shows bold red fruit, good florals and classically Asian spice. Palate is a real disconnect, showing lean fruit behind layers of acid, nowhere near the spice, fruit or balance the aromatics might imply. Finishes a bit short and shrill. Nose: 91, palate: 81.

(Domaine Francois Lamarche La Grande Rue) Medium cherry red color with clear meniscus; truffle, earthy, anise and tart red fruit nose; rounded, structured, roses, rich, tart cherry, mineral, brett palate; medium-plus finish
(Francois Lamarche La Grande Rue) I am not a huge fan of '97. Not enough acid for me. But the fruit is rich and delicate in the best. Reticent nose of spice, earth, dried leaves, forest floor with some ripe cassis, currant and black cherry peaking through. Also some asian spice and mint. Pretty complex and developing nicely in the glass. Seems slighlty roasted on the palate but with well concentrated fruit. Acid and tannin take over on the finish. Seems a bit warm too. Great nose and a letdown on the palate.
(Francois Lamarche "La Grand Rue") Great nose. Mint, duck, bacon fat, blueberries, minerals. Subtle. Very balanced with lots of depth but never overpowering. Tannins are there but melt away after around 2 hours of breathing. The tannins are tea-leafy. Really nice. Unique. Very different than it's neighbours. Not as powerful.
