  • Open and very generous nose. Elegantly perfumed with a lot of spices/woodland aromas. Violets, walnuts, pine cones. Quite heavy oaky impression. But it holds together.
Just about ready palate. Medium body. Blueberry fruit, subtle spicyness, caramell, fudge and oak. Fruit gives cool impression. Quite balanced with good grip. Medium finish.
Tasted blind this was hard to guess. Morey St-Denis someone suggested. We expected a bit more power and body from a Malconsorts, but it's a classic, quite fruity and fresh Burg. Like many 2007 it's good now and a few years in the future.

  • Ordered and drank off the winelist at Chez Guy, Gevrey Chambertin with my wife and SS. The colour was dark, it looked a little extracted. On the nose, it seemed a little maderized, with hoisin and soy, and it seemed a little pungent. This blew off slightly with time. On the palate, there was pepper and spice, a good structure, but lacked the complexity and elegance I would expect from a Malconsorts.

(Clos Frantin Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts) Drunk directly after the Clos de Bèze, this was still a wow! High-toned aromas over a tighter base of very pretty fruit and faint spice - slowly it opens more. Gorgeous sweet fruit, a little tannin 'grab' before building in the mid-palate then slowly fading - super.
