  • Lots of ullage on this bottle (a few inches), and the cork was moldy on the top and soaked through. The Durand worked well to get it out with ease. The nose at first was funky and had an odd metallic note. I decanted and with some air (20 minutes or so) the funk blew off. The nose is complex with earth, mushrooms, caramel, leather, sweet tobacco, and raspberries. The palate has delicious, persistent fruit still - cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, beautiful acidity and nice fine tannins still, which provide structure but don't dry out the finish. This is outstanding and with good storage could probably live to 100.
