Fully mature and perhaps even a bit past that point, there is more earth, tobacco, spice and leafy aromatics, than fruit. Dusty, bright, plums line the finish. This is on the way out and requires drinking.

Opened and let breath (without decanting) for ~ 1 hour before tasting. Deep garnet color, no sign of browning. Pleasant aromas of vanilla, coffee, asian spices, and red fruits. In the mouth, the vanilla (and oak) dominate but without overwhelming the fruit; this is a rich, long wine but without being heavy. There are also notes of mint, licorice and bell pepper. Tannins are almost fully integrated, but the wine still has good structure. I suspect that it will drink well for many years, and might still improve and gain in complexity. This wine is delicious now and will probably get better and more complex. Matched nicely with NY strip steak, can't wait to try it with lamb.

Definitely passed its peak. Quite weak nose. Palate is ok after 3 hours. Worst 1990 bordeaux experience for me

nice nose and colour, very smooth and pleasant but not much complexity or length

Clos Fourtet vertical (Institute of Directors, London): Looked old, nose was quite promising - ripe but classic, smooth on the palate, but insubstantial
