  • Subsequent notes on this wine from close to ten years ago. Dark garnet in color with very slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe red fruit aromas of cherries, berries & plums with overtones of floral notes of roses, earthy/dusty, tar, dried herbs, anise, mushrooms & a hint of spice notes in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured ripe fruit flavors of cherries, plums & cranberries with minerals, herbs & a hint of spices. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but at 23 years of age is close to its peak of development although it is far from decline for several years. Fill was at mid-neck; cork was clean & intact.

  • Double decanted and slow o’d for 12 hours. Agreed with aroma of crushed, dried red flowers, and subtle spice. However, Aroma has a big dollop of salinity/funk on it. On the palette I got medium red fruit (I ripe strawberry, not green just not sweet), dusty tannins. Medium+ acidity helps cut through it all. On the finish, Mouth puckering tannins even today.

  • Pretty perfumed notes of crushed flowers, dried fruits, some red berries, also some spices and leaves, also some anise seeds. It‘s medium-full bodied, doesn‘t have the same mid-palate persistence as 1999 and medium+ tannin that is pretty silky. Medium-lower acidity. A ready to drink, pretty and accessible VV. Even growing on me over the course of the evening. Very impressive especially considering the vintage.

  • Paitin Vertikale - Vecchie Vigne (Zurich): Puh! Explosive Nase, man merkt das bombige Jahr. Volle Weichselfrucht, Veilchen, Marzipan. Am Gaumen druckvoll, bombig. Wieder Weichsel, etwas Honig im Finale. Gefühlt in erster Reife, der Wein wirkt viel jünger als er ist - grossartig!
