Aromatic nose of Cabernet Sauvignon, dried black currants, dried black cherry, and fragrance of black berry muffin recently warmed for serving, same on the palate, big body, delicious, very tasty, mouth filling black berry fruit that coats your tongue and mouth, long finish that lasts for three minutes, and terrific aftertaste, a wonderful example from the 1976 vintage, thank you Derrald, photo uploaded shows high fill as bottle came from a previously unopened case stored perfectly by Derrald, another photo shows label, a third photo shows cork.
At 44 years old color remains a deep red with minimal ambering at rim. Fruit still very prominent, mild tannin, developing organic character. A beautiful wine

Poured a deep violet into the glass with just about no bricking. Whaaaaat? Yep. The nose was black cassis and a little bit of graphite and some age. For a 41 year old Chappellet, should this one have been done? Probably. But dude, it's a CHAP-PEL-LET. The fruit on this wine had started to fade, but the structure was all oh so there. Surpriser of the day. No way that it was the number 1 wine given that this one was enjoyed along with a 2003 staglin, a 2003 Anderson's Conn from mag, and a 2012 Jessup among many other heavy hitters. But this one goes to show you that old Napa can compete and stay right with the new. In addition, it shows me that William Harrison is in some VERY GOOD hands with Chuck McKahn as he spent some time in the hands of this Napa royalty. Great bottle!!

We had the wine at Gail Danials Birthday dinner at Angele and the wine was sound and everyone loved it.

After decanting and then sitting in the glass for one hour started to really open up!
