3571/3716. On rare occasions the terroir transcends the style and this would be such an example in perhaps the weakest Leroy vintage to date. Some red fruit which quickly fades into earth, dust, stony and even dirty characters. Some hawthorn notes can be found if searched earnestly, decent weight. 93

20200808 one bottle meeting at Bellini. As expressive, explicit, floral, multi-layered, characteristic, sophisticated, and elegant as one expects from Madame Leroy's red head label.

Drunk next to a '91 DRC GE. While the DRC was the clear winner, I think the nose on this wine easily held its own. There is a gorgeous fall flower and ripe fruit aspect that is really captivating and fine. The elements are harmonious and whole. The palate has good weight and fruit purity. The problem here is the relatively short and metallic finish. Very good wine, just not great. (91)

as far as i am concerned, Leroy is the greatest producer of pinot in the world, and this wine is proof of that. even in this, probably the worst vintage that i have run across, it still manages to carry the leroy signature profile of perfume and spice. i will say no more because the 5 prior notes have encapsulated this wine to a "t".

(Domaine Leroy Clos Vougeot) Slightly lighter medium red color with pale edges; focused, cherry nose; light medium bodied tart red fruit with sap; medium finish

Blind. Aroma of earth, tea. Light body. Lack of acidity and tanning with weak structure. Short finish. A very weak leroy grand cru. 3571
