Look: medium+ garnet with a bit of tawny; high amount of slower legs
Nose: coffee grounds, tomato, stewed dark cherry, forest floor, light gravel, dried fig, brownie mix; very good and complex nose
Palate: sour cherry, soft graphite, black pepper; long finish of black pepper, mint, violet; dry; light+ body; high acidity; low+ fine, but slightly rough, tannin
Overall thoughts: Although this isn't complex on the palate, it's elegant, pretty, and smooth, and has a great nose. It has enough quality to for me to consider it a pretty great wine, but for the price (which doesn't affect my score), I'd hope for a lot more. This was a much weaker showing than the 1998 (I think) vintage of this wine I had a year ago.

Very distinctive bloody and iron nose. Gave way to cedar and graphite after 30 min of air. Still showing tannins and structure but definitely drinking well now. Lacked a certain thrill and energy that best Cote Roties have. First time with this producer and not eager to seek again.

Book Club - Grand Finale; 8/17/2014-8/18/2014 (The Loft @ The Montage - Laguna Beach, CA): Bonus - my first La La. I was not disappointed and the others agreed as this was probably the favorite of the group. Initial impression was "really, this a '97?" because there is little evidence of aging in either the appearance or palate. Looking very dark in the glass. While the wine is concentrated, it's not fruit forward. It's probably more a reflection of the complexity which is outstanding. Dark berries, saddle leather, herbs, spice, acid and something I couldn't put my finger on all working together. Excellent wine.

Decanted half of bottle for about 45 min. Stil a fairly dark garnet almost Initially barnyard on the nose, then herbs / spices and earth. Elegant, medium (-) weight palate which lack however a bit concentration. Medium (+) finish.

Boy, this was good. Spicy, has that mulled berry note, just terrific spice. Roasted cherry, balanced, graceful. Beautiful wine.
