Darkest wine (besides the Rose). 100% pinot noir. Disgorged January 25, 2012 – Baked apple nose with some salted caramel notes. Soft and lighter mousse with decent acidity and a richer mouthfeel. This had the least amount of acidity, complexity and precision and for my palate won’t get any better with age. Very good.

Lightest in colour. 100% chardonnay. Disgorged April 13, 2011 – This was the most expressive off the hop with baked pear and fresh orchard fruit. Despite the baked pear notes the nose with quite fresh. On the palate this was noticeable less rich than the Sous le Mont with more precision yet the sweetest fruit. The mousse is lively yet soft with really solid acidity and nice palate freshness (even with the sweeter fruit profile) and a good dose of minerality. Finishes quite dry. I think this one will a few years to show its best. Excellent. 92+

Medium straw colour. 80% pinot noir, 20% chardonnay. Disgorged April 17, 2012 – Interesting nose of sulphur, damp wood and beautiful orchard fruit. As this sat in the glass the sulphur blew off and the nose began to open up offering complex and interesting aromas. In mouth this was quite elegant and focused without the richness and weight that I usually expect from high percentage pinot noir Champagne. The longer this sat in the glass the better, deeper and more complex it got. Grand Cru white Burg with bubbles. Give this some time. Fantastic. 93+

Light copper colour. Disgorged May 16, 2012 – great nose. Earthy nose of mushroom, red apples, cranberries with beautiful savory notes too. Energetic and linear on the palate with great acidity and a tart and powerful finish. This offers a lot of muscle yet remains perfectly balanced and precise. As this sat in the glass it became my favorite wine of the evening. A Brilliant Rose.

Tasted at the Domaine. Spritzy and lemon fruit nose. On the palate a tad ripe with medium weight and really nice acidity. Dry and slightly austere finish. Fresh and simple. Good.

Tasted at the Domaine. Aged in 600L demi-muid. Less expressive nose here but more richness and weight on the palate with nice citrus and orchard fruits. Not quite as much acidity as the previous wine but still a good bit and nothing to complain about. A step up for me even though the nose was a little shy today. I’d hold this for a few years. Very good. 88+

Tasted at the Domaine. Lovely nose of lime and green apple with a hint of lees and pear. The most precise on the palate yet with perfectly balanced weight, excellent acidity and tart and fresh finish. Lime and minerality on the back end. Most complex of these three Macon whites. Drink now and for another 5-7 years. Excellent. 90+

Tasted at the Domaine. Recently bottled. Very youthful on the nose and there’s this weird chemical/plastic note that’s quite distracting. Richer mouthfeel yet still fresh and nimble with riper citrus and apple flavours. Nice acidity with a good dose of lime and minerality on the finish. The nose is a bit weird to me at this stage but this was recently bottled so I’ll chalk it up to that. Give this a few years. Very good. 89+

Tasted at the Domaine. Recently bottled. Lafon rents half of the vineyard from new American investors and the other half goes to Roulot. Once again a youthful nose of lime leaf, apple and a hint of spicy wood. Lively and fresh on the palate with vibrant acidity with citrus and stone flavours. Like the Clos de la Barre, a blast of lime and minerality on the finish. This is really pleasant already and should drink well for many, many years. A terrific young wine. 90+

Tasted at the Domaine. Bottled three week ago. Similar lime leaf nose with a touch of spicy wood, lemon zest and floral. Weightier on the palate then the Poruzots but maintains excellent vibrancy and lift with excellent acidity and a tart, limestone driven finish. A good bit of tension and minerality going on as well. Needs a few years. Excellent. 91+

Tasted at the Domaine. Recently bottled. Similar nose once again (lime leaf, citrus, touch of spicy wood) but here there is a bit more complexity with pineapple (maybe even the skin of pineapple as the note is not tropical or ripe in anyway) and crushed wet stones. On the palate this has loads of acidity and freshness with a lengthy salted lime finish. Precise and focused with minerality and stony notes as well. For me a good deal better than the Genevrieres. This is incredibly good right now but should age and improve (depending on how you like your white Burgs) for a few decades (assuming no premox). Outstanding. 93+

Tasted at the Domaine. From barrel. Hasn't been racked, on lees since harvest, Will be blended/bottled in a few weeks. Floral nose with a ripe but restrained profile of dark pinot fruit. Sappy and cooler dark fruits on the palate with excellent freshness and solid acidity. Lighter in body and showing some elegance. Decent length on the spicy finish. Quite enjoyable right now but my only complaint is that it’s a little lean on the mid palate (this is nit-picking). I’d give this 5-7+ before popping a bottle. (90-93).

Tasted at the Domaine. Touch of sulphur on the nose that didn’t quite detract from the beautiful notes of dark raspberries, spice, licorice and violets. More weight and concentration than the 2011 with firmer structure and plenty of acids. Quite long on the finish. This has loads of potential that will probably need 15-20 years to show. A superb young wine. 92+

Tasted at the Domaine. Picked the first week of September. Really nice nose of lime, pear and a hint of hazelnuts. No sense of over ripeness on the nose at all. Solid weight without being heavy with minerality and acidity adding lift and energy. A hint of pineapple on the finish. I’d never guess this to be a ’09 if tasted blind. Very Charmes like. Should be great in a few years. Excellent. 91+

Tight nose at first showing lemon and saline notes. Richer mouthfeel with decent acidiy. After it warmed up and got some air it opened up a bit but never really hit the heights I’m used to from Raveneau. Shows vintage and vineyard typicity. Give this time. Very good. 89+

Decanted for 45min. Ahh, much better. Compared to the 2009 Blanchot, this had more saline, more precision, more acidity and more freshness. Lighter on the palate but with real depth and beautiful lemon and saline notes. Hard to resist now, so decant for a few hours, or keep your hands off for another 3-5 years at least. Excellent. 92+

Youthful nose with bits of wood, darker fruits and hints of chalk. This a big boy Chambolle with loads of structure and a masculine profile. Well balanced with lots of potential but this was not designed to be drunk in its youth. Give this 10+ years. Excellent. 90+

This had a much prettier nose than the 2010 Meo Feusselottes with perfumey notes off dark raspberries and spice. Very pure and precise with fine tannins and great acidity. While this is wonderful now in a youthful way, this truly needs 7-10+ years at least to reach its potential. Excellent. 92+

Tasted at the Domaine. Served blind. From half bottle. Shockingly very expressive on the nose but not so much on the palate. Huge material and so young. Tannins like the LSG barrel sample. Needs 15+ years when it should be absolutely killer. Easily mid 90s potential. Today it's tight as a drum.

Tasted at the Domaine. From half bottle. Shy nose, some oak showing through with some light floral. On the palate very nice, dark red pinot fruit, firm yet powdery tannins, well-structured and great acidity. A silky yet crunchy mouthfeel. Finish is very long and persistent. Tasted at the Domaine. Served blind. Closed at first but opened up offering spice, perfume and dark cherry fruit. Rounder on the palate with decent acid and freshness. Has a chalky and lengthy finish. This seems to have already begun to shed some of its baby fat but still shows the vintage in the suppleness of the mouthfeel. Having said that, there is also an added freshness that I didn’t pick up when I first tasted the 09s. Excellent. 91+

Tasted at the Domaine. From half bottle. Intoxicating and pure nose of raspberry, cherry and leather. Pure, soft and silky in the mouth with a, velvety and minerally texture. From magnum. Riper orchard fruits with richer citrus but has excellent tension and acidity which keeps the wine lively and fresh. Classical example of producer over vintage as this shows more Roulot than ’09 which is what I look for in these kind of vintages. Drinking very well now in a youthful fashion but should cruise for years. Excellent.

Rustic and funky nose at first but that blew off revealing underlying notes of iron and ripe (almost roasted) cherries. Decently structured with solid acidity and finer tannins but this seems more forward than the bottle I had last year at the Domaine, which was fresher, less ripe/roasted, and much more enjoyable. Still a decent drink but the softness and roasted character of this bottle is a bit concerning to me.
