Flight 1 - Paulèe Wines - Corton-Charlemagne (17 notes)

White
2006 Rapet Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
From magnum. Riper orchard fruit nose but no signs of over-ripeness with hints of lemon as well. Fuller on the palate with solid acidity to keep it from being soft. Really nice length. Some of these 06s are much better than I would have thought. Drinking very well at the moment.
White
2008 Domaine Capitain-Gagnerot Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
This was ok but a bit blowsey for the vintage. A bit too woody for my liking as well.
White
2008 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Domaine France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Bit too much wood on the nose at this early stage but loads of class and material beneath. Well built structure with solid length and great energy. Impressive in a youthful way but this needs serious time to let everything come together. Loads of potential. Should be a rockstar in a decade or so.
White
2004 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Riper nose and quite a bit of wood coming through. I liked the palate a bit more with some citrus freshness but overall a bit too woody for me.
White
2002 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
This was extremely fresh and drinking very well. Great energy and poise with citrus fruits and solid length. I really liked this and it's a shame that BdM has such a premox problem as these CCs can be stunning.
White
2005 Domaine de la Vougeraie Corton-Charlemagne Le Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Quite oaky. Didn't spend too much time with this one. Okay.
White
2005 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
This was drinking very well and the second BdM of the day that showed no signs of premox. Not quite as good as the 02 in my opinion, but very nice.
White
2005 Domaine Patrick Javillier Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
flawed
Premoxed.
White
2002 Faiveley Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
I found this to be quite oaky and didn't impress me as much as I thought it would. Large in scale with rich and tropical fruits. Good acidity keeps things in balance but overall this was a bit too big/thick/woody for me.
White
2009 Domaine Dublère Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Didn't taste like an 09. Leaner citrus fruits and quite light on the palate. Loads of acidity that actually dominate the fruit and as a result the wine seems slightly off-balance.
White
2004 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
This was really good. Had more richness than I would have expected for an 04 but so much finesse and delicacy as well. Great acid and mid palate persistence. Probably one of my favourites of the day.
White
2005 Nicolas Potel Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Ripe and rich on the nose with a very chalky palate. Interesting.
White
2005 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
This was drinking very well today. Not a big fan of the 05 whites in general, but this one was performing well. Lusher in profile but good acidity and bits of citrus and minerals. Not going to be a long term ager but there's no need to wait as this is in the zone right now. Very nice.
White
2010 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
One of the better young wines today. Loads of potential. Bit tight on the nose but really crisp, fresh and deep on the palate. Lots of acidity and backbone. Needs a ton of time.
White
2002 Domaine Doudet Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Very fresh with minerals and citrus. Impressive.
White
2007 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
93 points
From magnum. Very young with loads of potential. Not as pure and unadulterated as the 2010 Boillot (this PYCM reminds me of Lafon in some ways) but so much steely and minerally goodness. Probably one of the best wines of the day based on potential. Very backward and young. Lots of precision and dry extract. Great energy and cut. Needs serious time. 93+

2002 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
A nice wine but nothing special. I've yet to be really impressed with Girardin’s whites (or reds for that matter). Good value here though.
