Flight 1 - Champagne (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
2008 Gaston Chiquet Champagne Premier Cru Millésime Or France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
94 points
Clean nose. Apple. Fruit-forward. Long finish.
White - Sparkling
2006 Lebrun Servenay Champagne Grand Cru Exhilarante Vieilles Vignes France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
Funky, interesting nose. Minerals/wet stone. Full-bodied. A touch of sourness.

Flight 2 - Older bottles, including a mag of Gruaud (3 notes)

Red
1964 Château Gruaud Larose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
90 points
From magnum. Medium-dark red. Some bricking, but looked very youthful. Clean nose, some forest floor and cola. Medium-fruit with a touch of a sour note. Somewhat pruney. Improved in glass over 20-30 mins.
Red
1989 Château Cos d'Estournel France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
94 points
Dark red. Pencil lead and cassis. Silky tannins. Big fruit - delicious.
Red
1996 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
89 points
Dark red. Oak and tannins dominate. Thin fruit. No apparent flaws but muted overall.

Edit: I see now that I had the same wine 11 years ago and rated it 95 points. So, this is unlikely a representative bottle.

Flight 3 - Battle of the Pichons (4 notes)

Red
1986 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
91 points
Medium-dark red. Tannic. Medium body, medium fruit.

Some people at the table hypothesized that this is simply still not ready, but if it's not giving more after 33 years I'm wondering if it ever will be "ready."

Medium red. Pencil lead on nose. Tannins still resolving but this is drinking very well already. Licorice on finish.

If you have many bottles, start drinking some now. Otherwise, hold another five years.
