82 Latour vs 86 Lafite
Decanted 1 hour. I think the slow ox is better strategy. The decant method started out well, but the wine seemed to fall apart and become bitter after about 45 minutes of drinking.
Very dark red for its age.
Powerful nose, but quite vegetal and herbal.
Lots of Herbs, mint, rosemary , cranberry, sour cherry.
2nd component leather, vegetal, a little bitter, a bit of prune, even a bit of lemon zest. The Lafite seems to have more growth potential than the Latour, but the Latour was by far the better wine IMO.

Slow ox 8 hours, which seems to be great for this wine.
Drunk with dinner with an 86 Lafite
Blood red color with nice color gradient to light red edge. Looks much younger than it is. Leather, mushrooms, truffle, cherry. Beautiful nose, very aromatic. Tannins seem to be holding well, but not overbearing. Second transition hint of mint, some green flavors, smoke, cedar, and a little spiciness.
Mouthfeel is pure silk. Amazing balance in this wine.
So perfumie, third transition is wet soil, forrest floor some cranberry Parmesan cheese and some dusty leather boot,
So many great transitions.
Amazing wine. Crushed the Lafite.

Sharp and green.
Green pepper, graphite, strawberry and raspberry faintly on nose. Chocolate covered blueberry, smoke and flint stone. Quite acidic. Basic finish. This wine is good, but I find the Howell mountain version to be much nicer. IMO

Decanted 2.5 hours. It needed the decant. Big juicy character. Ink, blueberries, prune, really nice wine. Pepper, green pepper, a little bitter vegetable flavors. Dark chocolate. Powerful wine, a bit high on alcohol, but not too bothersome. Very creamy milk chocolate texture. Great wine that should be even better in 5 years or so.

Pure elegance! This wine is in full force right now.
Leather, herbs, cooked meats, currant, raisin, cinnamon, soft and silky texture, great mouth feel. This bottle is of first growth level quality at a fraction of the cost. A definite buy.
Still lots of years of life in this wine, tannins are well structured, but also drinking well now.

Decanted 2 hrs. Not sure if it needed the decant actually.
Very perfume, nice fresh herbs, white pepper, and an interesting rubber tire hint on the nose in a nice way. Nice wine, a light weight, but elegant. Alcohol is a bit high, but you wouldn't know it from the nose.

Nice wine, but lots of heat. Big dark fruit nose and flavor. Very big nose. The alcohol too much IMO, it overlaps the other nuances. I have 7 more bottles, so we shall see how this wine develops. Very young IMO.

I really like this wine. Good wine for the price. Big and bold, with good fruit and herbs. Blueberry, cassis and rosemary are noticeable. Very good wine for steak IMO. Drinking really well now with silky tannins.

A bit hot on nose and palette. Nice Colgin profile, but the alcohol is too much. This has been similar on two other bottles I have had of 09. Great mouthfeel, cherry, cedar, some Forrest floor. Well rounded. Delicious, but the alcohol is a bit much.

Ruby red color slight age on the edges.
I like this wine a lot. Very sophisticated slight underripe cherry on nose, eucalyptus, slight mint, red berries, aged meat, dried wood, and orange peel on nose. Good mouth feel and coating. Tannins are still quite strong. Might want to wait 2 or more years for last one of mine. Compared to other Barolos, I am very happy with this wine.

Big nose, alcohol seems to have calmed compared to the other bottles I have had. Quite vegetal with a slight bitter finish in a nice way. It has a really nice mix of round ripe black fruit and vegetables. Nice round flavors. Drinking well right now.

Unique. Not your standard Cali Bordeaux blend. Much lighter than expected, there is even a hint of raisin flavor coming through normally reserved for Italian wines. Sugar plums on nose. Some ripe cherry. I would say it is slightly over it's peak. Still tasty, but drink them if you got em, I do not see them getting any better.

Very sophisticated.
Dried berry, wet stone, clay, dirt, damp forest, wet animal, flinty, with quite a bit of acid. Well structured wine. I do wish for a bit more weight. After 2 hours, the wine is opening up well. Much longer finish, less acid. I can see this will be a very good wine, just missing a little something that would make it exceptional. Might want a longer decant at this time. Very enjoyable wine.

Splash decanted. This is my 3rd bottle of this drunk, and all the notes tend to be similar.
The pope must love his booze, because this thing has some serious heat on it. Prune, alcohol, spice, strawberry, leather.
Very light weight for this much heat. A slight bitter finish. Not bad, but not a great CDP IMO.

Nice golden color. There is some cloudiness to the color.Vanilla, cream, starfruit, good example of a great Kistler chard. Crisper flavors compared to the 2014 I have had recently. The body is lighter than other Kistlers I have had as well. Nice wine. Drinking well now.

Lots of tobacco and cooked meat. Heavy, but subtle nose. Tomato juice, wet wool, dark chocolate, a little too closed for my liking at this point. Weight medium plus, acid medium. Subtle nose of a bacon egg sandwich. Black pepper. Really nice wine, but not sure it is worth the price compared to a lot of other Cali Cabs.

Really nice stuff. Very similar to other PMS. I would say it is peaking from the many bottles I have drank of this before. It has the iodine or sea salt nose, blood flavor without acid. Strawberry skin, floral, hints of rose, medium plus weight, a bit of heat, acid medium. Lots of flower feel. The iodine is so unique to the PMs.

Milk chocolate, cream, some vanilla, very soft.
Chocolate covered cherry. graphite bitterness.
The wine seems a little flat. Almost grassy steak.
Good wine For the price. The flatness and lack of acid concerns me a bit. I believe it is a cycle thing not the wine is past peak.

Young yes, but very good just drinking wine especially for 35 dollars. Punches well beyond its weight. It is a heavy cab, but has some minerality nuances that are particular to Paso Robles. I like this wine, and will be stocking up for just drinking.

Decanted for 2 hours. Unfortunately disappointed with this wine. I expected more after all the hype I have heard. The flavors were good, but nothing really compelling for me to want to pay more than 150 dollars for this wine. The balance was good and good mouthfeel, but lacking something. I want to try another, but not going to pay 400USD to try it.

1 hour decant, it came out very well rounded. Started with some tomato juice. Then into fruit.
Blackberry, black cherry, great soft nose. Hints of ripe strawberries and blueberries, with hints of cacao and coffee on back end. Very nice California Syrah. Alcohol is in a good place as well. Great wine.

This wine is amazing on the nose. Consistently each bottle I have had, the nose has been powerful, perfume, cherry, leather, mushrooms and wet forest floor. Taste is good, but the nose way over performs the flavors. Flavors is light, and a bit tired. The nose is so good I had to give this wine above a 95. The secondary characteristics are great.

Great nose. Tomato, blood , hints of rhone, still some heat, but not overpowering. Interestingly hint of pool toy. Blackberry on the nose. Vanilla, pie crust. Very big nose and flavors. Controversial wine, you will either love it or hate it. Very new world. Clay and dirt comes through on the nose. Great wine.

Slow ox for 5 hour.
Current, leather, cherry, fresh herbs, hunts of butter, lamb, mushrooms, moss on the nose.
Truffle, cream, cherry, hint of slate, great mouth feel. Need to try a 2 hour open of PNP. Because this wine is great, but feels a bit tired. Still very elegant and amazing, but just lacking a great vintage Lafite level quality.

Cherry juice nose, cola, slate, mineral, I like the traditional aspect of it, but they may have overdone it a bit. It is a bit aggressive on the traditional side, but that may also be due to age. Some tar on nose. Strawberry jello flavors. A bit high alcohol coming through on the nose.
Red
Big blueberry and blackberry fruit forward nose. Big, round, soft tannins, some tobacco, some herbal notes in the background, little bit of heat, but not overpowering. Hint of milk chocolate. Very nice wine, but no transition, not really complex. A little soft and juicy, but not on the extremes of either.

Great nose, this wine always has a certain creaminess about it that I love. Almost a buttery bacon, rose petal sour cherry, tasted side by side with Martin’s lane. Way more sourness on this wine compared to the Martin. A bit obtuse but in a very nice and unique way. Nice sharpness about it. Good wine.

Lots of coffee, quite powerful wine. Lots of alcohol. Strawberry, over ripe cherry, the nose is a bit strong on alcohol, somewhat astringent, but not too of putting. Almost hints of banana liquor, dark cacao, raspberry, and prune. Heavy weight, and medium plus acid. Very nice wine, but the alcohol is a bit much for me.

Light ruby color. Slight bricking.
Might have wanted to try a bit less maybe.
Very herbal, mushroom, and wet Forrest floor on nose. Wet stone, leather, dusty boot, hints of cherry, soft mouth feel, a tiny hint of tannins, but not much on acid. Hint of mint cherry or mint and cassis flavors. Good 2 flavor transitions, long 30 second finish. Amazing coating of mouth. This is a killer wine, that is very perfumie, and subtle. Distinct Lafite flavors.

Decanted 2 hour. I think a splash decant is a better strategy IMO. Too much bitter for me coming out later in the drink with the decant.
Good amount of acid on this gal still. Dark ruby red. Big ripe dark red fruit, cherry, cotton candy, powder sugar, vanilla cream on the nose. Flavors, a bit of alcohol and tannins biting. Cherry, raspberry, over ripe strawberry, some bitter vegi broccoli or hint of spinach on the back end, long 25 second finish. Acid medium plus, weight medium. Different than the last bottles.

Punching well above it’s cost. Nice mix of old world and new. Dark ruby color for a Pinot.
Great mix of cherry skin and mineral, hint of wet slate, hint of wet wool, really nice subtle points on the nose. Really impressed with this wine. More going on in this Pinot than most high end Cali pinots. Wet rock, subtle strawberry on the nose. I just ordered another case of this. Excellent cost performance. What?? Secondary characters coming out, wood, smoke, watermelon on nose. Mouthfeel is almost creamy, tannins are there, but not out of control. A bit of sediment. Great wine. I am a big fan. Alcohol is a bit high at 14.5.
