Had this following DP 08 and before Senez CS73 02 and Telmont 75, and the Palmer 12 clearly stood out as the best for me. Really aproachable with some lovely development, fine texture and great balance. Worth stocking up on.

Had two of these following a double mag CH 1989 Millesime (collection - deg. 2019), and both the two did not fall that much short of its big brother. It lacked some of the freshness but gave such pleasure and for sure was a worthy follow-up of the 89. One was slightly so better (94+) than the other (93-).

2012 base, disg 2018, regular bottle. Opened a week ago, now it was really singing. Great balance and lift. Fruit is still holding up very nicely. Seductive. I was at 90-91p on opening, now it is at 93p for me. Love these bottles.

Day one tasting was a bit messy. Luckily I save 2 1/2 glass for assessing next day. Day two: wild strawberries, strawberries and raspberries, moist forest floor, light fungus notes and wet rocks, and some soda powder on the tip of the nose. More detailed than on day one where I found it a bit pointy. Considerably more fruity and sweeter on the palate than shown on the nose. More seamless (less complex) and acidity more in the background than on day one, although still a bite in the finish coming through with some nice baking powder. I called 91p on day one, moving to 92-93 with some definite upside potential on day 2. Great wine! Will not touch my remaining case for at least 2-3 years and then surely drink evenly until at least its twenties.

Disg 10/2018, 99 months (so 8yrs 3m) on lees. Reg bottle. Wholy schmoly. This one blew my socks right off. What a beautiful bouquet right out of the gate. Lime, sunripe lemons, golden apples, bruised red apples and overripe lemons, vanilla, wood, oxidative notes - you name it. Palate was packed with the same stuff, and so velvety and balanced. Haven't bothered to post notes for quite some time, but this one just (overly) deserves all the credits it can get. Kind of interesting though was that while I often find champagnes to move more in my directions as they warm up to 13-14*+ Celsius, I preferred this one just around 12*C. Also, I found that it was most appealing the first hour or so. I kept 1/2 bottle until next day, it was still delicious but not firing as much on its cylinders but still kept these lovely notes and balance. 96-97 points out of the gate, 94+p on day 2. So, keep it at 96 overall. Whoa!

Bought this bottle December 2015. Apparently it had 8 or 9 years on lees before disgorgement (unknown when). Pnp it seemed very mature and with entirely overpowering acidity (also the case when I tasted it 5 years ago). I found it almost undrinkable. However, in a pretty remarkable way it pulled together and got very satisfying. Acidity still quite piercing but now lurking more in the behind (finish) and complemented the mature, sweeter notes very nicely. Really great drink, although not particularly intellectual (perhaps bart the back bone). Will be exciting to taste it on day 2. 93p with pot on day 1.

Disg 05/2017, after 80 months on lees. My quick notes were: Pnp, overripe lemons, candied lime, raspberries, stone fruits, fungus and wet stone on the nose. Lime soda. Bracing acidity and pearleage in mouth. Long, salt/sour aftertaste. Refreshing and satisfying. Turning more sunripe lemons on the nose and more round and pleasing on palate, with hints of exotic fruits and a tad sweeter in mouth with also apples coming through. I really enjoyed this bottle. 94-95p.

Disg 07/2014 and 62 mos on lees should make this a 2008 base? so delicious that I did not bother taking formal notes... 93-94p for now, but can still improve. Reminds me of the 2002 base. Still got a case so will pick up next bottle in 2-3 years time.

Pnp I got some fizzy and chewy dark, red wine. After 2h in bottle, lovely perfume of white pepper, sage, juniper, dark violets, dark cherries, and hints of iron. Warm and long finish. Kept improving with air. 93p

Such a great bottle! Knocked the sox off the Palmer 2002 bdb mag, the Heidsieck 1996 OMA and the 2008 Heidsieck Rose Reserve that came before it. Pulled this one almost blind and it was an instant WOW around the table. It had the boldness and roundness that were needed to satisfy after the previous bottles, and then showed fantastic tension and lift in both the fruit and the mature notes to really blow us away. There have been some bottles from this producer that have not delivered the goods for me at all, but this one really shone. Not an aperitif wine, you need food or 2-3 bottles before it :) Still so much life left in this bottle, but it felt really in zenith and I will certainly not be able to keep off my remaning bottles for much longer. 95-96p

2008 base, disg 2016. This was a let down - it was drunk way too early! Great tension, but tight, fruit subdued and a bit hard to really sensor the reserve wines. The pace my friends were drinking it (they loved it), it never got a chance to show its real potential. Will hold my remaining bottles for at least 3-4 years.

This being my 5th mag over as many years, I had quite a bit of expectations given the performance of my previous bottles. However, this one was a bit tired and flat. Lots to like with mature, bold
and honeyed chardonnay notes, some wood I liked (though bordered being a defect) but not the lift that I had found to love in the other bottles. Guess, you cannot win them all. In retrospect, perhaps my drinking pace was not that bad. Will revise my drinking window.

A pretty nice nose of darks fruits, figs, coffee ground and wood was disturbed by some barnyard and hints of nail polish. Better palate, but the long and drying finish got be thinking that perhaps time had taken the better of this wine. Maybe a weaker bottle. 89-90p

Almost 5 years since my previous bottle. Definitely been putting on weight, but still feels pretty young. The balance and depth are, however, on a whole different level. So yummy and energetic. Therefore, I was quite hopeful when corking up the bottle for a sleepover in cellar. However, on day 2 it felt a little bit tired and flatter in the curve. Still really good, though superb on day 1. 94+ on day 1, 91-92 day 2.

1h decant only. Lovely nose of cherries, raspberries, roses and hints of nail polish and alcohol (although nothing really disturbing). Later, oaky notes and tobacco. Fresher and a bit tart fruits in mouth, with primarily cherries, blueberries. and milk chocholate, wet tobacco and wood. Pretty juicy and good concentration. Medium + finish. Nose is 93-94, palate is bordering 92. Overall 92-93p.

A bit skinny/watery at pnp, but 2+h decant on day 1 certainly gave it more flesh and balance. Nice pairing to grilled burgers. Not one for the long haul for sure, but drinking nicely now and at least for another 3-4 years. 90-91p

Almost 5 years since I first tasted this wine, which gave an intense experience that I was not prepared for then and which I have not really forgotten since. Given more recent reports I was concerned that I had completely missed out on my own bottles. Well, Imho this wine is not at peak and certainly not past it. While there is no enormous citrus/lemony explosion like 5 yrs back, it certainly has more balance and complexity and still offers citrus omph and vg depth. Pnp I found it perhaps a bit dull but giving it 5-10 mins it was a different animal and the ageing really complemented the fruit. The bottle was nearly empty in an instance! Refreshing, interesting and giving. Still room for development, and acidity to match no problem. As 5 yrs ago, this bottle delivered well above expectation. 93-94p

From memory. I had a rather impressive bottle of Heidsieck Rose Reserve 2012-base last weekend, which perhaps was not a fair benchmark to this bottle at present (the CHRR clearly overshadows this Pol Roger today). To me the PR was a bit lean, lacking the substance of fruit that I would expect from such a recent vintage and certainly the depth of the CHRR (which of course reflects the reserve wines in the latter). I also felt acidity was a bit on the high side, so it comes across as a bit out of sync. I enjoyed it quite a bit as a drink now, but overall it was a bit unimpressive. Perhaps I had too much expectations. Bought this bottle to try, but seeing now that I already have some bottles of this in my cellar I guess I will have the opportunity to check in on developments as it surely needs another 2-3 years to get in shape. 89-90 now.

From memory. Now this one was a very positive surprise. After finding it quite promising in 2016/17, the 2-3 bottle since then have all been a bit of a let down. Now, with 11/2h decant it just felt so much more inviting and ready. Dark flowers, ripe dark cherries, and hint of sweet tobacco. Quite nicely balanced, perhaps the acidity was showing a notch more than I would have preferred. Smooth tannins. Liked it a lot, and should improve at least 5-6 years from here. Perhaps longer. 91+p

From memory. Depth and power here, showing development though not particularly nuanced. Some funk on the nose that did not leave. A bit flat perhaps. That said, it was it was very drinkable and joyful but not with that grace or lift one could have hoped for. 90-91p.

Quick note from memory: In one way the fruit is surprisingly fresh, while some more mature St Julien notes are building. However, the acidity will surely outlive the fruit and already requires too much attention, tilting it a bit out of sync. I liked it much better 3-4 years ago (think this was my 11th or 12th bottle). Works pretty well with beef burgers. 90p.

Pnp at 12 C, nose gives an almost chemical (in the most positive way) feel. bee wax, fruit stone, steel and hint of funks. Nose leans towards an aged Northern Rhône white. Initially palate screams lime and grape fruit - almost numbs palate. Intense and loong finish. Myriads of piercing bubbles. Does not go unnoticed in any way. Not for the faint hearted for sure. With more time edges smoothens out both on the nose and, particularly, the palate. More flowers and perhaps green grapes emerge. However, still saline and vibrant. The initial 30-40 mins, really put me in a corner. From then the wine calms down and presents itself in far more welcoming fashion. I will not forget this bottle. 90p on pleasure scale, 93p on impact scale - if that makes sense to anyone else but me :)

1/2 bottle. Pale, transparent brick. I've had rosés darker than this. Satisfying and nuanced nose of dark cherries, leather, figs, nail polish remover, gun smoke, white pepper and sweet tobacco. (Edit: I read the note smoked meat, quite descriptive). Parts remind me of the Munjebel and other Cornelissen's. Palate is surprisingly fresh and muscular. So smooth, balanced, and refreshing but not massively interesting. With 30 months comte it is a match made in heaven though. 91-92p wine, 98p combo.

With some time in the glass i get ripe lemons, dough, wet stone and hints of grass and pine perhaps. And some white peppery feel. Red apple juice in the mouth. Concentrated and looong. Still feels the dosage creates some disconnect on the mid to late, although it is definitely coming together. However not at the pace I had been expecting. I am starting to realise that I should have held on these bottles for longer. Next bottle in 5+ years. 92p

My first Trediberri. Super fresh and juicy, but not without class. Burgundian in a sense, which is meant as a compliment. A bit of menthol that I usually not prefer, but here it just added to the freshness of the bottle. Was perfect to wash away some last slices of pizza, and then equally great to enjoy just on its own. Ahhh, such moments are those we are longing for. As much as it was a very in the moment bottle, I am reluctant to say how this will be develop. Guess I need to be drinking it more to tell. 91-92p.

Had to try after hearing about tired bottles last 12 months. This one was in super form, and I would say easily 10-15 more years. As in my 2016 notes, there is complete balance but all buttons have been turned up 2-3 notches since then. Mature, yet fresh. Racy, yet subtle and elegant. Pure class. 95-96p with potential.

Great bottle of red. 91-92p.

We opened 3 bottles al fresco on a chilly day. One was a bit out of sync upon opening, but it pulled together quite nicely although it was clearly a weaker specimen. The other two were showing much better, delivering ripe golden apples and amalfi lemons, honey, nuts and mushooms. Lovely concentration and depth. Easy and refreshing drinking at 14 C outside temp.... 90-91 for weakest bottle, 92-93p for the two best bottles. I would drink these within 2-3 years, as the proportion of weaker bottles is on the rise.

Had to test this this given praise received from some of the more generous critics. Believe this is my first LP millesime. PNP it showed abundance of fresh apples, ripe lemons and dough on the nose. The palate definitely reminded me of the Grand Siecle, though (of course) less opulent. A really nice mix of PN and Chard, though my feeling was majority PN which does not seem to be the case. Elegant and refined, but showing sufficient depth to be interesting at present. Had expected more fruit coming through given the vintage, but perhaps it is yet to fully reveal itself? Right now I feel it would be best as an aperitif, although it worked quite well with our Korean beef lettuce wraps. However, I would think a minimum 3-5 years of further cellaring. Has a lot of the stuffing to go a long way, especially if fruits can come more forward. For me, it drinking around 90-91p now with 92-93+ potential. Could be worth stocking up some to see, given its price point.

Served in a pinot bowl, given the previous encounters. First glass: Classic voluptuous, Egly nose with ripe lemons, mushrooms, baking powder, vanilla and wet, salty stones. Gorgeous. Not quite the bold palate as I had been hoping for. Still fine. Love the hints of wood. Quite piercing acidity. Probably the piece that does not fully harmonise with the remainder of the palate. Considerably better as the bubbles fade a bit. The nose though.... Lets see if I can spare some for day 2 as I had planned.

Five years ago, the wine needed 2.5-3h of decant to really show its best, leading me to predict that it would improve beyond 2030. Definetely not my prediction after this bottle. Pulled at around 11C cellar temp, the palate felt partly overly mature and with a grape fruit note that got it out of sync. After 10-15 minutes in the fridge it started picking up and over the course of the next 1.5-2h it was singing as I poured it around 9-10C (guesstimate, but definitely more chilled than I usually like them). Overripe and juicy lemons and apples. Nutty and mushroomy. Not hugely complex, but with so much character, depth and fabulous balance. Seamless and so long in the finish. One of the most delicious PRs in recent memory. 94-95p

No decant, given my bottle 8-9 months ago. First whiff, a stunning nose packed with so much fruits that I could hardly believe. 10 first minutes was like pulling the plug of the bath tub though, I could only watch the immense concentration slowly fading away. What was left was not too shabby, but that was kind of beside the point at that time. Anyways, ripe lemons and crushed rocks was key take aways. Not entirely at sync towards the finish. But pretty enjoyable. 89p in the end.

45min decant. A bit steely dirt and wood spice over dark cherries and hints of plum cought my attention from first sip. Finnish a bit tart and a bit unfocused had us wait until the crisy duck was served. Worked well with food. From around 1.5 h decant wine came more into its own, fruit showed better and better balance in finish. Some upside here for sure. 90-91p for now.

Two bottles in two days, last one form my own cellar. Definitely advanced quite a bit last 9 months. Felt both bottles were the least performing of the 6-7 I have tasted. Unfortunately the fruit is not holing up sufficiently to balance the sherry notes that have emerged lately. Lacks tension also and picking up some imbalance. First bottle was 89-90, second 91p imo. Not sure where my notes on this have gone, but the bottle was a very positive experience. I was surprised to find a bit of barnyard on the nose, but I did not mind as it only made the wine more interesting. Fairly light and smooth, yet serious and with a grip.
