Coravined a glass out and drank it. Boy this is young! Licorice, dark berries, and mud on the nose. Tart ish on the palate. Licorice and earth on the palate as well. I am going to let this bottle sleep for another 5 years and try another glass. Other reviews are reporting 2-5 hour decanting time.

Quite disappointed by this wine. I had high hopes for it based on CT reviews and price point. Nose has anise and blueberries. Palate is just not well integrated. Feels harsh in the beginning followed by blueberries and cigar. Wine is okay ... just not well balanced for a wine at this price point.

1/22/22, 6:17 AM - Yes, I have another bottle. Will open in 8 years. I don't have high hopes for this wine though. For a good young bordeaux, you can tell that it will evolve in 10 years to a better place, but doesn't seem off.

    This wine just seems off.

Beautiful wine. Nose of blueberries and roasted meats. Palate is smooth and lightly tannic with roasted spices, bell pepper characteristic of a cabernet, lot of earth and mushroom with a kick of black peppers in the end. Ok I am sold. Didn’t even need to decant. Very well balanced wine. 95 points.

Beautiful beautiful nose of tar-infused strawberries with hints of cherry and raspberries. Palate is lush and giving with beautiful red fruit and youthful tannins. Decanted for 2 hours, but probably needs another 2 hours to fully open up. This definitely feels like an untamed horse riding into the sunset with its mane blowing wild in the wind!
  • winecoffee commented:

10/9/21, 1:33 AM - Depends on uour taste. If you want smoother, I would go for a longer decant.

I have reviewed this wine before. The only thing I will add is this made me think of Tagore’s lines: “Mono mor meghero shongi ure chole dik diganter paane.” Translation: my mind is floating in the clouds and flying away towards the far horizon!

Gorgeous right bank wine. Roasted meats and red fruit on the nose. Palate is delicious, silky, and luscious with abundance of red fruit (but not a fruit bomb). Complex wine. Didn’t decant but could certainly use some decanting. 94 points.

This is what a right bank should be like.

Wow! What a wine! Didn’t even decant. Nose has tar, roasted meat, and baking spices. Silky texture. Mild tannins. Palate is complex with figs, mushroom, earth tones, and bold red fruit.

Wow! Blown away by this wine. First time having a vintage Napa cab from the 1980s. Nose has beautiful soft plum, tobacco, and some chocolate. Palate has plum, sour cherry, a bit of fig, a bit of dark chocolate, but they come in layers. Palate is definitely beyond the peak, but I love over-the-peak wines. 93 points!
  • winecoffee commented:

1/26/21, 4:13 AM - Peak is when the wine is at its best expression of fruit with mellowing tannins. Beyond peak is when the fruit is on the decline.

Soft plum, spices, herbs, and red fruit on the nose. Mouthfeel has fullness to it with a lot of fruit left. Tannins have mellowed (no decanting needed). Slight bitterness with tobacco and herbs in the end. Finish is long and lingering.

As Marie Keep (founder of Skinner auctions) says, drinking such a wine is like truly meeting an old friend.

Decanted ann hour. Amazingly fresh. Loads of acidity. Soft, complex and elegant with near perfect balance. Super long finish. Loads of red cherry, lead and red berry fruit on the palet and nose as well as a bouquet of Roses that lift and linger above the glass. Super wine that is drinking and holding up well. Drink now-2030.

We bought this with a number of other 2005 Bordeaux. Very tannic and closed for many years. Still tannic to the point of overwhelming the fruit for about the first half-hour. Then, the wine becomes more integrated. Not sure if the fruit will match the tannins over a few more years, or the wine will simply become stale. Dark maroon color, nose indicates pleasant Merlot, which is apparently escaping the glass as it struggles with the tannins. The fruit is herbal, with fennel and arugula prominent. Not bad, and continues to show promise.
  • winecoffee commented:

8/2/20, 11:43 AM - I agree. The wine was very tannic when we opened it, but then after 45 - 60 minutes it started smoothing out and tasting very well integrated.

Clearly very young but this is wonderful and brimming with chalky, acidic vibrancy. The gooseberry on the nose has such clarity that you can almost feel each fruit's little hairs tickling your nostrils. The palate is nervous and steely with incredible precision and detail. Finishes very long with a lovely citrus interplay. Somehow none of this feels unapproachable. Superb!
  • winecoffee commented:

7/26/20, 4:59 AM - Thank you for the review. Excellent description. Ordered based on a friend's recommendation and your review. The wine had me at "chalky." :)

Too young. Sure, it can be enjoyed now; reveals itself more on the nose than the palate. Of course that's not saying too much for as nice as the nose may seem, it's obviously holding back. So, knowing this wine for 20+ years, I say don't you dare open a bottle anytime soon - this needs time to unfold. BIG, black and red fruits, loads of spice, a hint of soil. HOLD. For its full potential, it's highly recommended

low fill, tawny rim. fine, intense, cassis nose with firm flowery edge. silken texture is appealing; flavour rather simple for its class and short finish. nose improves and has remarkable clarity later, with a pretty violet touch.

    5/21/20, 5:19 AM - Hello:

Are you scoring the wines on a 100 point scale? Your notes of wines are consistently low 60s and 70s, which in the 100point scale is considered not so good wine. Yet you like this wine.

    Just curious.

  • winecoffee commented:

5/22/20, 3:33 AM - Are you saying the 1970s Margaux was a below average wine for you?

While it is okay to have your own scale and is praiseworthy, the point system that has been adopted comes from Parker (whether we agree or not). Your rating of 62 suggests this is a very poor wine yet you like this wine.

Here is Parker’s rating system explained:

Chateau Clinet 2008. Just blew my mind. Nose is of steel and damp forest floor. First layer is very soft merlot. So you think - what a boring wine. Then the back layer hits you with a gripping gush of chalk and you say to yourself “Wow, what a wonderful world.”
  • winecoffee commented:

5/21/20, 9:09 AM - Yes, I agree. 2008 wasn't a good year for the left bank, but there are certainly hidden gem in the right bank from 2008.

Took almost 4.5 hours to open up (included 3 hours of decanting). Scorched earth, burnt meat, and sour cherry on the nose. Starts with a gripping garnet layer followed by a back layer of long sour cherry. Beautiful wine, but definitely needs another 10 years in the bottle. 92 points (if tasted now).

“If wine can have legs, then frogs can have teeth”:) California’s Frog’s tooth pinot is almost Burgundian. Makes you feel like you are walking through a red tulip field in Holland with a military helicopter flying in the horizon. Pencil shavings, lichi, and slate on the nose. Strawberry jam and notes of spice and black pepper on the palate. A long sour finish with a bit of tannin rounds it off. I almost wish it had a bit of chalk in the end like some Burgundies do. But totally enjoyed this wine!92 points!

Note of sweet and sour fruit, red and black cherry, and forest floor, same on the palate, medium/big body, very tasty, took two hours to open in my glass, but worth the wait, subtle yet rich fruit, almost mouth filling fruit, nice, sweet fruit, should earn higher score in 3 years, and a long, flavorful finish.
