10/8/21, 9:01 AM - I utterly share your view on Burgundy, although last year I had an Andre Bart Bonnes Mares 2009 I bought for around 90 euros, which was not only fabulous but a real value for it's worth as well.
10/8/21, 3:36 AM - It's a Jaboiulet, not Chapoutier wine...
8/15/20, 1:49 AM - You are very kind, thank you!
5/5/18, 4:53 AM - In the case of Boutari wines which are not premium priced and yet quality control at the winery exists I suspect bottle variation has to do more with storage condition. It is not as if you buy a Mouton and the like where the money paid force one to store the wine well, with ageworthy but cheap wines many bottles end up stored in unfit conditions and they spoil due to lack of care...
2/12/18, 9:30 AM - Hello djlevin, I agree with you that Cote-Rotie need aging and they can be some of the most remarkable wines in the world. On the other hand I have happened to try some which showed their best right on the moment of opening the bottle, an ethereal nose of flowers and fruit which dissipated very-very soon. I think this is the magic of wine, it can always surprise you and can often fail to follow perceived rules.... Thanks for the comment!
9/17/17, 12:44 AM - Fantastic wine, I had the chance to drink both Les Forts and Haut Brion from 1970 and were both wonderful wines after 40 years. Imagine how Latour Grand Vin will be! Cheers!
6/6/16, 11:31 PM - Hello JGH123, I' ve drank the Mouton 1983 twice and it really was what it's all about (and at a fair price), however I have not kept my bottles and I do not remember the 11,5%. Is that so? Incredible!!
4/11/16, 11:29 AM - Yes, I think these wines are best within 3-4 from release and then again after 15 years in the cellar.
2/23/16, 10:48 PM - Hello Wineaggregate, I so much agree with you! Montrose 1990 is one of the most profound wines I have ever come across including many a first growths from top vintages.
2/17/16, 10:50 PM - Hello Reichken, I see great reviews for this wine, but the one I tasted a few years ago was as you said ...flat. Bottle variation, different lots... I don't know what to expect for the other bottle I have, which I intend to open soon...
2/3/16, 4:00 AM - Hello Zoomin Z! Ten years ago I visited the Joly house and the wines we were served there were possibly the best whites I' ve ever had. After that my experience with Joly's wines can be best described with a paraphrase of an Oscar Wilde quote: "A Coulee de Serrant is the perfect type of a perfect pleasure. It is exquisite, and it leaves one unsatisfied. What more can one want?”
2/3/16, 12:31 PM - Hello again, thanks for the tip, I had the chance to taste the wine a few years ago, and it was interesting! By the way your Coulee de Serrant TN is great!
1/30/16, 11:05 PM - I have much respect for Robert Parker but on this one he got it wrong, and as a consequence the 73 Mouton is very underrated on CT. I had the chance to have one and it was a fantastic mature first growth! The good side is that the price of the 73 is not as steep as other more venerable vintages and this despite the Picasso label...
1/18/16, 8:57 PM - I've been lucky enough to taste Haut Brion 1970 and Les Forts 1970 alongside quite a few times as I happened to find them at a very good price. Les Forts showed bottle variation with bottles ranging from good to excellent but always for me Haut Brion was better, more complex and with more depth. In any case -for me- two of the best wines I' ve ever had. It struck me as some sort of coincidence for another person to taste these two wines -which have left an indelible mark in my drinking 'career'- together and that's the reason for my comment. Cheers!
1/3/16, 10:52 PM - Happy New Year to you!! I am not sure I fully understand your dilemma "did we underrate because it's an SQN and did we rate higher because it's an SQN?", yet somehow I do agree... I had the Atlantis in a casual environment and while it was delicious it was also fitting to the environment and so easy to like that I gave it also a good 95 (..only)! Might deserve even higher...
12/18/15, 11:00 PM - Hi Jeff, I was thinking of opening this wine during the Christmas holidays, but I had some reservations that it might be a little too young, giving it a hundred points means it's open for business, right??
12/20/15, 12:51 AM - Thank you Jeff!
10/25/15, 5:20 AM - Hi Panos, such a positive review and yet you don't like the wine?
10/21/15, 10:30 PM - Hello Papies, I drank this wine at home a month ago and your note reminded me that I forgot to post it. I agree very much with what you wrote, I found it a bit overwhelming, somewhat heavy...
9/30/15, 9:48 PM - I last opened a 1990 Montrose four years ago and it was one of the most exciting Bordeaux wines I' ve ever had and right from the moment the cork came out! On the other hand I decanted a 1990 Ch. Margaux and while it was sublime from the start, a four hour decanting muted the wine. This and other similar experiences have made me wary of decanting. So I only practise when a wine is closed as you did. Anyway, just a thought...
8/12/15, 7:42 AM - Sorry friend, I do not remember, but if you are still interested, I can find out...
8/13/15, 2:32 AM - Dear owr, everybody seems to be away on holiday and I cannot find any information about the cork. I think though that it is very probable that Paraskevopoulos from Gaia uses plastic corks in some of his wines. Differences in evaluation could be due to expectations. Could also be that Assyrtiko is an acquired taste and here in Greece most of us (wine geeks) tend to like it with some age in bottle...
8/21/15, 10:38 PM - Hello again. Confirmed: Paraskevopoulos winemaker and owner of Gaia wines uses 'plastic' corks for his whites because he thinks these are the best closures for his wines...
8/17/15, 3:52 AM - Hello Winetearcher! I came across your notes while browising for Chateau Simone and saw your very interesting note on the 1986. Then I saw the Montrose vertical and was struck by your comment that the '67 was ranked as either first or second by all attending. According to my knowledge (and experience) Montrose '89 and especially '90 are some of the best Bordeaux wines ever produced (...if such a thing can be said). Was 1967 one of your favorites as well, and if yes how come only 90 points? Cheers!
8/17/15, 11:33 AM - Thank you for your very interesting reply! I am also a huge fan of mature wines but I've never tasted an old Montrose, I will look out in the future for one of the vintages you mentioned...Et à la vôtre!
6/17/15, 12:22 PM - Hi Michigan Dogs (funny name by the way), I can only take it as a compliment! Great wine...
6/14/15, 4:48 AM - Four more years will not harm this wine, might it even add complexity. I' d say drink untill 2025. But this is just my guess...
6/14/15, 4:53 AM - Hi again, I just saw your picture of the beaver and it felt spooky... We are expreriencing a problem at home with another kind of rodent, a ...rat. :-))
5/29/15, 10:20 PM - I had this wine last night, great tasting note!
5/26/15, 9:56 PM - I hate pruny wines, but last time I tasted VV 2007 a year ago I found it one of the profoundest young wines I have ever had. Hope it does not go into decline as I have four more bottles. Was your bottle stored well?
5/13/15, 6:40 AM - I almost always agree with your taste, as if we had the same calibration, on this one however we differ a lot... I found it surprisngly enjoyable especially given the price and moreover I prefer it to much more expensive and highly rated NZ Chardonnays..
1/28/15, 1:13 AM - Hello Francois!Looks like a wine from 1980? I am asking because last time I had Montrose 1990 (one of the best Bordeaux wines I have ever tasted by the way) around three years ago, it seemed to me incredibly youthful.Thank you!
1/28/15, 1:11 PM - Thanks for your reply!
11/7/14, 11:51 PM - Hello Julian, I was happily surprised to find another person comparing 2007 Terra di Lavoro with Ch. Montrose as I already had the same thought. I have had both 1989 and 1990 Montrose. My bottle of 1989 was not very good, but the 1990 is definetely one of the best reds I have ever had and TdL reminded me of that. Great note!
10/22/14, 9:35 PM - Hello mulligan452! Sadly Condrieu is expensive... But wines from producers such as Cuilleron or Georges Vernay are really awesome! By the way one of my dream wines is Amon Ra Shiraz - have you read Andrew Jefford's article about it?
10/11/14, 11:11 PM - I definitely agree with you! Montrose 1990 gets rave reviews deservedly, one of the best wines I have ever tasted myself..
9/16/14, 10:37 PM - Dear Shiaxonna I have one bottle which I was planning cellar some more, you say "old", should I open it soon? Thanks!Greetings to beautiful Bergen, I have very fond memories of my visit!
9/17/14, 6:27 AM - thank you!
7/2/14, 9:51 AM - I wish I could do a Clos St. Hune vertical myself one day...Very nice notes. I will follow your advise and will keep my 2002 for a few more years. One thing I would like to note: you subscribe to the hype, yet your scores are not as high as I would have expected for such an iconic wine...
6/13/14, 9:48 AM - Few months ago I opened two bottles, one was mesmerizing and capable of lasting for another 20 years and the other bottle was cooked and half dead...
5/6/14, 6:36 AM - Tame your temptation and keep away!! lol
4/20/14, 1:20 AM - Hi there, "amaro" is bitter, "xino" is sour... There doesn't seem to be any connection between the two...I am going to open a bottle of '97 Ramnista with easter lamb and see how it fares...
4/13/14, 10:53 PM - Yes it surely must have been the bottle - my last out of eight - and the only one not to give full satisfaction. A few weeks after the HB 1970 I drank a Les Forts 1970 which is also fantastic but still inferior to HB 1970 and it was still going strong, so I suppose it was just the bottle..
3/26/14, 12:19 PM - Posa lefka anoikses? Ton eskises to bakaliaro!
3/24/14, 11:38 AM - Hazy were only the last glasses as the wine did not have enough time to settle, the first glasses to my memory were clear...
1/17/14, 11:27 PM - Dear Panos HB 1970 is the wine that got me involved with wine and I drank my last bottle for Christmas, I'm glad to see that an experienced taster like you appreciates this wine as much as I did... Cheers!
1/7/14, 5:00 AM - Cheers! Wishes for many nice bottles in 2014...
12/24/13, 4:19 AM - According to the bottles I own, terroir 2 is Aghios Tryfonas... (terroir 1 Bas Karter and terroir 3 Seko Polla Nera).
12/21/13, 10:21 AM - I tend to agree with you that this is not a wine to age for decades despite certain reviews. When I had the wine a couple of years ago while I was delighted by its sensuousness and finesse I found it surprisingly mature for its age.
12/20/13, 5:15 AM - So I add great value at 14euros!! Very enjoyable wine indeed!
12/2/13, 9:20 PM - Will it? I mean its so perfect now that it can only become different, but better? Still I have tasted superb old Chateauneufs from as far back as 1961, but here I express my 'anxiety': should I open my remaining bottle or wait with the chance to loose something? Cheers!
10/29/13, 10:52 AM - Glad to have shared this bottle with you!
10/2/13, 11:51 PM - I wonder how Les Jumelles could be, even occasionally, the same juice as La Chappelle since the two wines are different appellations - the one Hermitage the other Cote-Rotie. Thanks!
8/23/13, 11:23 PM - Dear friend, what do you mean by saying that it's impossible to go wrong with DRC in 2006? Do you mean that they got it all right despite 2006 not being a great vintage for Burgundy? Thank you...
8/28/13, 7:18 AM - Thanks for your reply ;-)
7/23/13, 10:39 AM - Really was it so good? I have a bottle and I am not sure whether to open it or keep it because of the Picasso label as some say it is one of the lesser moutons ever. I think I will give it a try... hope I get as lucky as you!
2/8/13, 10:43 PM - Dear K.Lonis I tasted the same wine at the same event and I was stunned by the intensity of the nose, the complexity and how well it has aged. Of course one cannot compare it directly to the rest of the wines of the Fair as this one was aged, but for me it was on a class of its own. To my opinion it is probably the best red wine Greece has to offer.
2/11/13, 12:10 AM - Dear K.Lonis I accept your invitation with pleasure - is the wine bar Η Πύλη του Κρασιού - Λ. Αμφιθέας? We just have to arrange a meeting and I will come with pleasure!
2/8/13, 6:14 AM - Interesting to know that other people share my view that the 98's have entered an oxidative phase despite intial praises. I hope they get round as I have a few more in my cellar...
1/10/13, 11:13 PM - If I may add, Naoussa wines are rarely strong on fruit, instead they have a more savoury and vegetal character. So I would not attribute fading fruit to aging but to varietal character. Track record for this wine shows that it can age effortlessly and develop for ten years and some 30 y.o. bottles are still alive. So I would not hurry to drink my next bottle... Thanks!
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
