Vinetasters: (mostly) 2010 Burgundy (Park Ridge, IL): More interesting than good to me -- a herbal, licorice, and almost chartreuse-like quality to the nose and palate here; it's a bit too medicinal for my tastes to be honest. Surprisingly light in texture despite the sweetness.

Coravined. Very very deep amber color. Rosé petals and honeycomb. There’s a hint of tartness on the palate. Unique, sweet white. Not at all my style. Even so, I appreciate Mark1NPT sharing it. ;)
4th Saturday Brown Bagger (J&L's): Light amber color. Peach and apricot qualities with a terrific floral overtone. Hints of honey and pear. Lingering finish.

With AM. This is really good quality, it's light but it's heavy. Nose reminds me of Sauternes of high quality. But it's different. It has some Tokaji notes on palate. First one I tried and keen to experience more and get better understanding at this but this was really good

Opened to celebrate our dog, Sadie, who was born in 2007 and passed today
Method: around 50 degrees; pop and pour; white wine glass
Look: medium- rust orange; very viscous
Nose: orange, honey, nutmeg, apricot, graham cracker, dry earth, leather, flowers, fresh sage; super complex; and expressive
Palate: Honey, apricot, nutmeg, graham cracker, golden raisin; long finish of orange peel, nutmeg, cinnamon, dried herbs, white pepper; medium+ sweetness; full body; low- tannin; high- acidity; can sense higher alcohol on attack (but not quite hot)
Overall thoughts: Much more complex than I was expecting. Great full body and concentration with great balance. It's a bit more bitter than I prefer my dessert wines to be and I guess I'm spoiled by Riesling's very low alcohol. Still, this a great and distinct wine.

just a small glass from the 50cl bottle shared at WIMPS xmas lunch. Masses of depth and richness to this sweet amber nectar (not in the castlemaine XXXX context) with lashings of acidity keeping it vibrant and far from cloying. This will continue to reward for a good few decades yet.

First experience with this particular wine/producer- Day 4 after simply re-corking/no gas. What an unbelievably glorious color. A golden apricot caramel color in the glass, like a copper sunset.
Aromas of honeyed almonds and orange blossoms greet the nose effusively, while a little baked pear aroma lingers in the background.
Simply delicious. The aromatic components make a graceful appearances on the palate in one way or another. A delicate floral honey note, tangerine skin, blanched almonds, peaches in syrup and perhaps just a touch of pine resin.
It is rich and luxurious, while having enough complementary acid to carry a pleasantly persistent finish for minutes.
I have a few bottles from another vintage on order, but I am led to believe that this 2007 is an exceptional vintage and without a frame of reference for the producer, I can simply say this is an outstanding dessert wine. I hope the incoming bottles are somewhere in the ballpark.

My word this is really something. Bright, intense orange colour. Piercing acidity. Thick, unctuous peachy fruit on the palate. Tastes as if it will live forever.

The closer for the night.....rich, thick orange muscat with a honeyed apricot and a very viscous delivery. Smooth....just wonderfully balanced with the proper acidic backbone. This has many years left but this bottle was gone!
Vin de Constance 07 vs 17. While not my favorite style of sweet wines, I enjoy to taste these wines occasionally thanks to their freshness and usually quite complex aromatics. Both vintages showcased these traits with the 2007 winning for me thanks to more age, complexity and lots of saffron aromas I love.
TN: At first the nose was a bit off with some cardboard scents but with time the intense saffron notes and underlying tropical fruit took over. The palate was much more interesting and easily deserves 95/96 points as it is very layered with lots of saffron, quince, apricots, minerality and herbs, honey. The intensity is high but met by a strong but round acidity keeping it light and airy enough. The texture is beautifully creamy and the finish is long and full of saffron and apricot cake. I prefered this more mature and less tropical fruit profile and the added complexity by the age.
Decanting: Not decanted, it got better with a bit of air. A short stay in the decanter should do good things here.
A stunning wine, brassy orange colour, dill and passion fruit on the nose, great viscous mouthfeel, tropical fruit on the palate. Finishes dry with a lovely hint of sea breeze.
Startlingly vibrant deep gold-orange, fading to chrome yellow at the edges. Sluggish and syrupy in the glass. A nose of apricot and peach, with bitter orange marmalade and a hint of resinous cedarwood - and the saffron that another reviewer identified. Super-sweet and very complex: there's orange rind, orange-blossom-water, and more apricot; luscious ripe greengage and an underlying fugitive hint of some sweet, woody spice like mace. But despite the sweetness, the balancing acidity keeps this a grown-up wine. This bottle was still fresh and bright, with none of the tiredness or oxidation that I've noticed in some other older vintages. I suspect Klein Constantia began investing in better corks in the early 2000s, which probably helped the longevity of Vin de Constance.

Tasted alongside the 2017. Tangerine, saffron, candid apple, honey melon, fine layer of spice and forest honey. melon. fresh and electric acidity with the sweetness so well integrated and a very long finish that unleashes a layered aromatic complexity. From this bottle, at least, both the brownish, orange colour and the aged aromatics would lead you to an easily 20 years older wine.
Aged Napa versus Aged Bordeaux at Cork Vault (Charlotte, NC): Opened to close the evening. Deeply rich amber-brown in appearance. Fantastic balance of sweet notes and acid, this sweet wine displayed tasty flavors of apricot, orange marmalade, caramel, and a hint of honey. A worthy capstone on the evening this rich, savory “sauterne” had a beautifully long finish. Universal praise for this closing selection.
Finished the last small bit from a bottle that had been coravined last year, opened for company a month ago, cork put back in and sat in the fridge since then. Man, oh man........nose is lovely orange fruit....once it comes to room temp, it is heaven...honey, orange marmalade, more citrus, glycerin.....only negative is a slight, duller muted ending with a slight off taste that I can't place my finger on. Acidity is still there for more time but this bottle was clearly open a long time and still shines so well!

Very deep amber. Wonderful fresh and intense nose of everything you wish for; orange marmelade, mandarines, baked apricot. It is full body, very high acidity and obviously sweet, but the sweetness is kept in check and balanced by the acidity. Orange marmelade, fresh mandarines, apricot. Mineral. Extremely long and savoury. One of my favourite sweet wine especially this vintage with its high acidity.
End Nov Wine Night @ GWC!: I have been wanting to try this. Honey yellow fruits, nectar, marmalade, spices. Quite aromatic and Sauternes-like. Good acidity to balance off. Enjoyed this tonight!

First of a case of 6. Amber-brown in the glass. Nose of candied stone fruits, predominantly apricots I think. Some hints of orange marmalade and perhaps a whiff of caramel. Beautifully rich and long on the palate with excellent acidity level to make it a real pleasure to drink. Paired fantastically with a very delicious apple crisp, made by my good friend the food blogger known as Well Plated.
Second WOTN to me....maybe Leon, too. This kicks the '07 d'Yquem's ass. No competition! It is dense, it has structure, it has flavor......no comparison.

Man, what a wine. Color does not belie the acid of this beast. Pours a caramel, oxidized brown. aromas of botrytis up front and prominent, spicy stone fruit, bay leaf, and a ton of dried herbs. This is what I want. In the mouth, lean acidity followed by a nice glycol richness, amazing mouth feel between bitter green herbs and sweet unctuous viscosity. Loads of uber ripe fruit in the mouth, yellow peaches, apricot, nectarines- reminding me of those summer crumbles that my mother used to make. Good, long spicy finish that cleanses your palate and leaves it begging for another sip. I finally get what Baudelaire was talking about.
The end of a long term Coravined bottle......still drinking pretty well. Color is dark orange in the glass and the honey, orange marmalade is not as sharp or defined given the slow oxing of this bottle over the past 6-9 months, but there are no off tastes. Still it was strong enough that it was a hit with everyone after dinner tonight.

Caveat.....Coravined a glass off this bottle 8 months ago so it's been sitting on it's side ever since in the cellar. I purposely did not re-seal the wax over the cork after piercing it with the Coravin back then. So there is the possibility this sampling tonight may have slow oxed some, or a lot. Last years's score was a 92 from this same bottle....
Tonight.....a moderate amber color in the glass, just beautiful. There's a glycerin type structure in the glass as you swirl, but this is in no way syrupy. The nose is of honeyed oranges and the first sip, confirms this. With 20- 30 min time in the glass, some white flowers, maybe honeysuckle/jasmine show up. The weight is medium at most, again this is not a heavy or syrupy dessert wine. There is some light apricot, pleasant, slightly mouthwatering well integrated acidity that runs in the background throughout but then re-emerges slightly after you swallow and lingers for a good 30 seconds. There's a mild hazelnut(?) mixed in there subtley on the ending as well. This is drinking so well, I re-sealed both holes in the wax capsule. Gonna enjoy the rest of this at a later date. This taste better than the last......

Last bottle and consistent deliverer. Floral aromatics with marmelade quince and hints of honeysuckle with a long mouthwatering finish. 94-95 puts many pricier Sauternes to shame (yes I know a differen grape just sayin’).
This is so delicious. Heady nose of tropical fruit and skunk cannabis. Really unctuous and tactile. Packed with apricot, segueing into a bitter marmalade that persists for an incredibly long finish. Superb match for Christmas pudding, having just the right degree of perceived sweetness.

Glorious colour and bouquet. On the palate great yellow fruits and generous sweetness, stopping just shy of cloying. Not the bracing refreshing notes of a fine Sauternes, but that's clearly not the point- delicious in its own right.

Disappointing bottle compared to the other great aged '07 and '08s. Still, very representative with it's beautiful orange hue in the glass and wonderful candied mandarin nose. This particular bottle is lighter in weight than others we've had. It may just be a one-off bottle that just didn't turn out as great as the rest......

Beautiful amber color and exquisite flavors of orange, dried apricot, spice and honey. A real treat at the end of the evening and I probably drank more of this than one is meant to consume!!
Again, my eternal gratitude to Mr. Anthony Russell for turning me on to this wine. Just gorgeous, color, nose and flavor profile as noted before here. Another bottle down....I'm starting to run out!
My eternal thanks to Mr. Anthony Hamilton Russell of Hamilton Russell Vineyards in S Africa for welcoming our group led by Jean-Noel Formeaux into his home and sharing his valuable time and a great lunch with our group. His family wines are so well made and so enjoyable. His hospitality was second to none. At the end of lunch he introduced the group to an '08 version of this dessert wine. It was a hit, to say the least. A magnum of this beautiful orange muscat wine from Klein Constantia a legendary producer in S Africa. This '07 version is a beautiful candied orange peel, dark caramel and a touch of honey. It is most probably the best dessert wine I've ever had in my life. Yes, better than many a Sauterne. More soul, more life, more length. This has aged beautifully.
Dark orange to amber. Musty honey nose. Viscous palate of tangerine, golden syrup and poached nectarine with a very long finish up to 45 seconds. Brilliant. 93-94
Dark colour. Smooth and sweet, but good acidity as well. A superb sweet wine. Not clear if there is any benefit to further age from here, but no sign of any decline.

Quite a deep colour - dark orange. Drank half on a Friday night and the rest 24 hours later. The first night the wine came across (despite a decant) as quite intense and coiled - Seville orange and apricot with notes of pear drop and honey; the following day it was more nuanced with the same fruit profile joined by light rose and other floral notes. This probably needs another 5 years before it is properly approachable - equally while it will keep for 25-30 years, the sweet spot might be sooner than that for sure. ****(1/2)

This is really good. Flower, syrup, yellow fruit, and chrysantheum. The palate has very balanced sweetness which you wont feel its overwhelming or too much. I like this wine more than the d'yqem 95 today. Its elegant and floral while the d'yqem is ripe and explosive.

Tasted Sunday, then again Thursday and Friday evenings (from the same refrigerated bottle). On Sunday this was all about balanced fruit (ripe and candied) and complex acids. It paired amazingly with a lemon tort and cheesecake. While perfectly balanced, non-cloying, and utterly delicious, the wine imparted an impression of extreme youthfulness.
On Thursday and Friday the wine featured delineated fruits, spice, hints of petrol, and terroir, all of which coated the entire palate with vivacious acids. The dominant note, Turkish Apricot nectar, if such a thing exists, put my mind to the what the hedonistic wine gods likely imbibe during their Bacchanalian escapades. Absolutely stunning, and worth every last penny! For maximum enjoyment, drink chilled, not cold. 95-97.

Impromptu gathering - Cos, Velvet Glove, SQN, Alban, Larkmead and etc. (Charlie Palmer - Washington DC): This somehow reminded me the 07 Didier Dagueneau Jurançon Les Jardins de Babylone as well as tokaji 5 or 6 puttonyos. Ripe yellow and red tropical fruits, orange peel and yellow peach. Excellent concentration, intense sweetness and lovely long clean finish. Despite the intense sweet fruits, the bright acidity keeps the wine fresh and precise. It is not the most complex dessert wine but still incredibly hedonistic.

Lovely orange color. Aromas of acacia honey, burnt sugar and summer melons. Ripe, beautifully structured, high acid fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Surprisingly lithe and focused for such a highly extracted wine. Still very, very youthful and perhaps a bit closed at 7 years of age. Try again in 5 years.

I have a few bottles from another vintage on order, but I am led to believe that this 2007 is an exceptional vintage and without a frame of reference for the producer, I can simply say this is an outstanding dessert wine. I hope the incoming bottles are somewhere in the ballpark.

Compote d'abricots mûrs, écorce d'orange confite, épices douces, toute une déclinaison d'arômes si intéressante, sur une robe orange foncée. 14% d'alcool donc pas trop lourd non plus. ****(1/2)

incredibly sweet but was a great match for cheese. not quite the complexity of a great sauternes but i thought it was delicious. great quality/price ratio. they've just released the 2008... think i'm going to ship in a case

Pale amber colour; starts delicately floral on the nose and builds towards honeyed caramel, white chocolate and honeycomb; full and rich on the palate, unctuous yet not cloying. Complex fruit character, citrus honey zest. Intense. Good length. Very long.

Looking lushious in medium(+) amber. Very coying (though in a good way) nose and palate with honey, apricots, jackfruits and caramel. Lovely acidity cutting through the sweetness. Very nice.

Lovely amber colour. Luscious without being cloying. Dried apricots, nuts, toffee. Delicious!

Associates Wine Dinner (Our House): The nose is extraordinary. Enticing yet clearly not syrupy. Pears, honey and apricot all in one. The body is a little lighter than expected which makes it a little more drinkable than sippable - so be careful and enjoy.

Associates' Forum Wine Dinner (Sean Ballington's Home, Great Falls, VA): quite lovely, but for me this is a little bit of an all-nose all-star. (Nose suggests a score even higher than 91.) Smells like heaven. Honey, faint apricot, some green apple and caramel on the palate. mouthcoating. Lovely.

Honeyed peaches and pears with a little bit of spice. Amazing balance and length. Lovely stuff.

Big and beautiful, quite sweet, classy, with up front peach and apricot muscat flavors, but I'd like more acidity please. Still, it's very good, even great.

Honey, peach and apricot compotes. Very creamy with an amazing long finish. Was lucky enough to taste for the first time with an incredible camenbert cheesecake at The Greenhouse restaurant in Cape Town. After that, went to Klein Constantia Estate to find out about this legendary wine.

Just an awesome wine, lots of tropical fruit, honey, vanilla all in perfect balance in this delicate yet lush wine. Looking forward to see how this develops with time but is drinking beautifully now.

This was ripe and luch with oodles of tropical fruit and a creamy texture. Just a little heat on the long finish. Matched a passionfruit creme brulee to perfection. Surely a candidate for world's best sweet muscat?

Seductive bouquet of white flowers, Jasmine; exotic flavors of vanilla, peaches, Queen Anne cherries. An exceptional dessert wine. Should develop greater complexity with age.

Delicious. It came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Apricot, clementine, honeyed but never cloying. A hint of butter scotch but enough acid to carry a light meal.

Very nice nose, botrytis led with good apricot notes. Good texture on the palate, dense, layered with a nice glycerin feel and decent acidity .Feels well round and ready to be enjoyed. Quite a lot of life ahead of it and has a nice balace that shoudl keep it going for long. Worked amazingly well with the tart tatin 91

Wines of South Africa (Fix St. James, 111 Elizabeth Street, Sydney): Medium amber, clear with legs. Clean and developing with medium plus intensity aromas of grape, jammy notes, sweet spice, clove, toast , vanilla, orange marmalade. In the mouth the wine is sweet with medium plus acid, medium minus alcohol, medium body, medium flavour intensity with flavours of apricot and grape compote, vanilla, orange marmalade. Very good.
