Just terrific. Very vinous with lovely sherry-ish aldehyde and secondary fruit characters. Golden colour. Incredible palate. A lot of vitality left and would probably age further but this is just so delicious right now.

Shimmering light gold color. Split bottle over 3 hours. We brought this to the Kenwood for Valentine's Day and it was drinking beautifully. Pain grille, brioche and toast on the nose, bright green apple and quince, Chantilly cream, almond pastry, ginger and spice. The palate is full bodied, golden apples, brioche, toasted, almond pastrties, chalk, apple peel, ginger, red apple, layered and nicely spiced with a savory finish. Really nice! This looks to be solidly in the window and should drink great for another decade.

Wimps Free For All - October 2022 Oruro (La Trompette): Fresh nose but no apply acidity. Spritzy - super balanced. I’d been imagining a continuum between self indulgently funky grower stuff, and balanced, bready GM stuff. This is truly a third way…my wine of the day. Yum.

Classic Vilmart nose - rich, lots of bread and brioche. yeast and lemon and a nice creaminess. Enters soft - the mousse is light and elegant. Lots of lemon and minerals, then a wave of creaminess. Finish is potent - lemony biscuity and minerally. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 16.5-17/20.

Tasting with Laurent Champs of Vilmart (In Rilly la Montagne): Disgorged July 2013. Laurent, being the attentive and considerate soul that he is, remembered how much I am enamored with the 2006. And, of the heart that he moves from, he blinded me with this wine from the oenotheque. Man, this is such a great wine. Good color remains, delicious, still honeyed and rich yet in really perfect balance. My gut tells me this is entering the prime drinking window. I still have one bottle in the cellar, a wine I will cherish and open for the right occasion.

The nose was muted on this but there was an unusual herb note, not in a bad way, just not something you'd associate with a champagne. The pallet also showed a touch of anise and the bubbles were super fine. The finish was strong Red Berry which led me to believe that it was predominantly Pinot noir. This is a fan favorite.

Blind Tasting with the guys (Maison Cafe in Dana Point, CA): Forgot to get the disgorgement info off the back label. This was the WOTN for everyone at the table. The freshness and structure on this wine fooled the table, as they guessed the wine to be far younger than it actually is. Tangerine and green apple form around a citrusy core, with the chalk coming through into the finish. One guy at the table called this 'elegant' and I would agree. There is a a great amount of complexity and depth in this wine, and with air the slate and lime really come through and shine. At 15 years old, this is fresh and lively, yet balanced with great further potential. What a beautiful bottle of CdC!

Quick notes, had with friends. Really nice champagne, not in the style of the grand marques for sure. The 80% chardonnay is clear, and it has great freshness and strong presence on palate. Surely more a wine than a traditional champagne, but damn good!

Opened while listening to Biden's inauguration speech.
Powerful Champagne, bright effervesence, tart appley. At first pour it's harsh and needs more time and/or air. I look forward to following this over the course of the day. It showed best from a Zalto Champagne glass which masked the harshness and emphasized the minerality.
Some lovely floral notes emerged over the course of the first hour.
A few hours later it's showing best from a Zalto Universal but still not expressing all that much. Disappointing.
Day 2: better but still pretty tightly wound. Impressively long finish.
Day 3: Finally! This is a fantastic Champagne which obviously needs a lot of time. It now displays an explosive melding of huge rocks, chalk and sweet citrus fruit. But rather than open my remaining bottles 2 days in advance I think I'll just let them sit for a few years.

Excellent bottle and typical of the house. This was perhaps softer and more open than a couple of others I’ve had. Rich in style like a less powerful, acidic Krug and very much ready to go and delicious. Very easy to drink.

While this bottle was very good, it performed at the minimum level I would expect from this wine. I guess I was expecting the 2007 except with some more mature notes and it was a different wine entirely. Less exuberant in it's fruit expression and more finely drawn. Very well balanced and with that lovely balanced mouthfeel this cuvée always seems to have. I get the feeling I may have enjoyed this more had I been served it blind. Let it be a lesson, don't let expectations get in the way of experience.

Light yellow. Vigorous fizz. Citrus rind and a touch of caramel. Almost completely dry, medium bodied but creamy, energetic bitter citrus, some hay, and fantastic mineral driven finish. Tremendous Champagne, still on the ascent but with the earliest hint of mature components. Loved this bottle.

Wow! Hugely expansive on the palate from the get go. Served from Riedel sommelier Chablis glass and that seemed the right choice. Vinous hazelnut on the nose, a silky sweet oaky palate with a lime note to finish off which rings long. Hands down amazing and probably the best 2006 champagne I had. Easily better (at this stage) then the Dom 06 I had two days prior. May 2013 disgorgement. Drinking gloriously now and probably a very good future ahead too. Dare I say better then the 08 of this? The 08 was more about apple, this is more oak and lime. More vinous is the 06. Both are great wines.

1+ hour of air in bottle already. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon yellow colour. Legs. Fine bubbles. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of bready yeast, brioche, citrus lemon, chalky minerality, very slight white florals. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet citrus lemon drops, honey beeswax, chalky minerality, touch of cream and yellow peach. Long finish. Very good quality. Rather youthful and will require more age to develop and integrate. Richness and grandeur but lacks the thrilling acids of the 2004. 80% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir. From a single parcel in Rilly-la-Montage 1er Cru – ‘Les Blanches Voies Hautes’.

Champagnes at Jano Bistro: 80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay. I preferred the greater precision of the Vilmart. Lemons, limes, steely minerals on bouquet, only a touch of yeasty autolysis. On palate, lighter on its feet than the Egly. Focused and persistent. Nervous acidity. Citrus, green and yellow apple. A very fine, impressive wine. Fruit weight, richness and power to match the elegance. Great food pairing with the salmon dish. It'll improve with a few years in the cellar of course.

A great champagne with a good concentartion, citrus, pear, a hint of brioche and nuts, the clean acidity is the dominator of this wine, a long finish, in a very young stage, a great effort of Laurent champs in my disliked vintage, 92-93

Man, I loved the 05, but this is even better, vastly surpassing the quality of the vintage generally and should really be judged on its own. Killer is a word that comes to mind to describe this, or maybe "stupid good". Class in spades, richness with finesse, iron-clad structure, salty earthy veal-broth savory-ness, incredible natural concentration.

Nose: The nose is very powerful, but possessing real depth and balance, with crushed rocks, citrus tones, red apples, baked breads, and a good bit of white florals.
Taste: Full bodied with high acidity. The structure is very youthful and powerful with crushed rocks, red apples, baked bread, baking spices, white florals, and citrus tones.
Overall: This is a very impressive wine already. It certainly does need time though as there is a lot more that this can give.

Still very light in color. Nose showed green apples, white flowers and light yeast notes. Very elegant, power, superb balance, and nice length and complexity. Still very young, but already at this stage a fun Champagne to drink. On another note, I expected this wine to be richer than the Villmart Grand Cellier d'Or but I was showed differently. I am interested to see how this one ages. Drink now - 2022

Interesting but too young, lots of unintegrated oakiness but powerfully complex. With time, this may develop into something sensational. Right now, I find it unbalanced and too closed. Acidity crisp and firm, a good minerality w medium to full body, there are tropical fruits, red apples, brioche, even a little smoky butter. Looking forward to next taste in about three years.

Very nice, with something in it that really makes it very 2006. Despite its youth it drinks well at this point. Nose with green apples, some fudge & nougat, nuts, yeast and toasted bread. Lots of clean grapefruit, lemon, tart apples, medium tart pears, toasted bread with good acidity and a quite dry, long finish. Not as flirty and developed at this stage in its life as the lovely 2004 was at a similar age, and something tells me it might never be? Missing some of the lovely, flirty sweet tropical fruit I have found in previous vintages. Still, a very nice Champagne, that in my opinion needs some more time in the cellar. (91+)

Drink now - 2022
Note: 80% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir. 10 months fermented in oak.

On the nose, Fudge, coffee, vanilla, pineapple, papaya
On the palate, coffe-ground, grape, toasted bread. Very stylish champagne with a fantastic balance. very nice integrated acid that makes the wine very complexed and good.
Long finish
Keep the bottles for years to come and you will be rewarded
