Dark red fruit, tobacco and licorice unfurl in the glass to deliver this modern styled brunello. Somewhat on the bold side without going to far. Good juice.

Brought to a restaurant, shared with friends. Note from memory, no formal note taken.
Opened onsite, slow O'd for 90+ minutes before we got around to this. Consumed over 2 courses and 45 minutes. Black cherry, fresh cut herbs, some dusty road components and add in come violets and potpourri. Nicely integrated at this point.
Last of 3 for me. For those of you still holding some I'd venture to say 5 to 7 years left...easily.

Drinking in a perfect place right now. Nose still the low point of the wine. Flavor is great. Soft integrated tannins. Fruit starting to just begin to dry. I don’t feel this will go past 2025. Drink up.

A nice wine but strikes me as lacking seriousness. Very light, to me it's too light for BdM. Drinks great, fun, no hard edges. Not flawed, I just think that's what was done that year. No regrets but I definitely would not seek this out.

PnP. Perfect cork. Medium red with a little browning but less than typical for 2010 Brunellos in my experience. Initially a bit closed and tannic, but after an hour or so open, the lovely cherry fruit and smooth texture of the wine comes to the fore. Finish is of sweet fruit with some acidity but little tannins remain. It seems there must be quite a lot of bottle variation for this given the melange of comments. This bottle is ready to drink and though lacking the depth of the best 2010s is a lovely drink.

Beautiful and elegant, this wine has good concentration of red fruit framed by a silky tannin. Not sure why it has such a low score of barely above 90 points here. It's in a great drinking vintage and will be enjoyable for the next 10 years at least.
This was a pleasant brunello but I am somewhat at a loss as to how it consistently receives extremely high critic scores. I have had several bottles from this producer and while all have been enjoyable, none has come close to what I would expect given the lavish praise it always seems to get. I would say it is slightly better than average and around $50 fairly priced, but it's not a wine that, imo, will leave a lasting impression. Always seems to be lacking complexity and depth. For about the same price there are other brunellos I enjoy more.

Nose with mature notes of under brush, coke, spices and cherry liqeur. Taste is very long, well balanced and tannins provide good support together with the minerality. No need to cellar further and drinks beautifully now. Consume in 3-5 years?

Cellared since purchase on release Coravined Feb 20, 2023; Opened Feb 21-22 2023 Light purple core in the glass with ring of surrounding garnet color, transitioning to brown at the rim. Bouquet of red fruit and tobacco. Medium to full body in mouth with mature sour cherry fruit, and a definite hint of cherry liqueur. There was excellent balance with soft tannins that segued to a 30 second finish. This was a mature, very enjoyable Brunello. Lovely.

Lighter in color and flavor—more like what I imagine is a classic Brunello style. Higher tannins and acidity to make it almost austere. Rust colored, with some evident bricking. A very interesting funk on the nose, which I can best describe as cat pee. It took a long time for this to dissipate but eventually gave way to some subtle fruits and licorice smells. Cherry, some interesting secondary licorice tastes. This wine was transformed with food—a nicely seared ribeye was a magical pairing as it brought out the fruit and secondary flavors and contained the wildness of the aromas.
Interesting, fun wine.

This is my second bottle out of a case and this one is much better than my first one. Lots of dark red fruits, including dark plum, saddle leather, tar, spice, cedar box and fully resolved tannins. It has a medium to long finish.

A bit disappointing. Held it for a nice dinner and it underperformed. Has a funky nose - hard to describe - rather earthy. Color is traditional Brunello. Flavor was OK, but thin with no lingering finish. If you have any in your cellar, it’s not going to get any better.

Considerable bricking, seems fully evolved, probably past its peak for me. Classic mature Sangiovese notes on the nose; the palate is medium bodied and well balanced, with moderate length. The fruit has mainly faded away, leaving autumnal notes. Perfectly pleasant but underwhelming.

This is the first bottle out of a case that I have cellared since release. It has a mature color and is certainly ready to drink. The tannins have resolved nicely and the acidity is in balance. While it is a well made Brunello, I fell that the fruit has faded into the background and so it is not as complex or pleasurable as I had hoped.

Hooligans: Another good, forceful showing of this wine, again with its distinctive and unusual overlay of washed wool and acetate. Drinking nicely but still plenty of life ahead.

I know that many people are drinking Brunello young these days, and of course we should all like what we like, but for me this is a textbook case of why I still usually prefer to wait for double digits: this has improved so much since i first tried it in 2018.
Clear, light garnet. Nose of raisin and barnyard. Mature, but vibrant palate of sweet, earthy black plum and Morello cherry. Long, perfumed finish, with tannins that have resolved nicely. Easy on oak, the fruit really shines through.
Still in early peak. I'd say drink or hold, easily has 5 years of top drinking in it, likely longer.

Not sure about this bottle. Seemed to lack depth. It's out of balance with more acid than what belongs with this fruit. I don't get the sense that this is improving with more time.

Tertiary nose, with a rather odd funk iniitially. Colour is orange into a garnet, and with the tannins and acids being so resolved, I thought perhaps a 2007 or 2008.
After 30 mins, the red fruit floral perfume nose improved. Rounded oak, earth, wood, and even Blackberry notes. Most enjoyable of the Italian trio last night!
Of the blinded trio, we only got this 1 right. BdM ✔️ Vintage, alas I thought it was older then what it really was! Fun night of sampling doc's 3 Livita bottle pours.. cheers!

Pizza Night Italiano (Matt and Brenda's): Dark red color. Drank a glass over 90 minutes. I was surprised that both didn't own this wine and had never had it. At any rate; This showed baked fruits, blackberry pie, blueberry, and black raspberry liqueur, and dark chocolate along with the requisite spice and pepper notes. The palate is more full bodied, blackberry, lacquer, black raspberry liqueur, savory with a peppery cedar box finish. There's a little volatility on this as well. 91+ to 92pts.

Went to the basement to grab a bottle of BdM, and was reaching for something else, but somehow got this and didn't notice until I got upstairs. Then I was just too lazy to go back down, and it's 11 years old, so why not? Again with chicken, but a straight forward home rotisserie, and a nice pasta side. This is good to go, but it could lay on its side longer. All the notes below are still relevant, but the wine is a bit more integrated with a year's time.
Bright red, hinting at orange towards the rim. Strong plastic tinged sweet Cassis on the nose. Washed wool, orange peel and orange liqueur. Round and mouthfilling but fresh and direct. Gentle tannins, long lingering finish. Delivering already and bodes very well indeed for the future.

Decanted two hours. Clean, mature garnet. Nose of plum, leather, and pine. Juicy, savory, almost animal on the palate, ripe black fruit, minerals, roasted meat. Good on its own, alchemically stellar with food, absolutely lit up with pumpkin ravioli. I've been a little tepid on previous bottles of this, but excited to have more, this is finally coming into its own.

More evolved than the bottle I drank last year but still wonderful. Nose of sour cherries, plum, currant, olives, herb, potpourri, and balsamic notes. A beautiful wine that still needs a healthy decant and on night #2, getting more of the savory, syrupy, balsamic notes. Drink now.

Overripe and volatile nose of blueberry jams, prunes, spice box and cooked black cherries. Quite full-bodied and just loaded with sweet, overripe fruits, copious amounts of flowers/potpouri and chocolate. Many will love the over the top style, but I just can't. 90? But decidedly not for classicists.

With a Friday dinner of chicken parm and the like, also wife's birthday. This is very drinkable now, probably because it is in a very modern style. It's pretty ripe, somewhat oaky. The oak isn't really out of joint, but I tend to like my BdM more old school, with less toasty tannins and more of the natural astringency. My guess is that, like modern vs traditional barolo, eventually the differences will fade a bit. I will hold onto the last bottle of this wine and vintage for a while as an experiment. I believe they also own Caparzo, which is less expensive and, to my taste, less dolled up.

In a pretty nice place right now. Elegant and restrained. Ultra smooth tannins with a very long finish. Cherries and strawberries dominate. Leather, spice, and the tiniest bit of funk to make it interesting.

Major Yum. This '10 BdM is open for business. Great balance from front to back. The cherry and strawberry fruit has brambliness to it that melds into the leather, sweet tobacco, herby and black pepper spice mid-palate. The lingering finish is dry and carries on all the yummy flavors. Great pairing with pasta top with a pumpkin, kale, sage and sausage sauce (recipe from Torii Mor Winery - apologies for not pairing with one of their Pinots). Consume over the next 3 years.

From a magnum. More traditional in style than prior bottles. Slight rusty tinge; a maturing wine but not at peak yet. Savory flavors, earthiness and potpourri come through rather than a sweet cherry. Long and mineral. A hearth fire ambers highlighted smoky, woody and honey aromatics of this wine. Needs another year or two to fully integrate. Good.

This is beautiful. Showing the more feminine, graceful side of Brunello. Aromas of sweet cherries, barique, rosemary, flowers and potpourri - turning to olives with an hour+ decant. Cherry, currant, juniper berries and fennel. Nuanced and elegant. Drink now - 2026/28.

The transition to modern style in a bottle. This wine has a level of extract - mouth filling richness - you would never find in an old style Brunello. The flavors are more pronounced as a result, Cherry, a bit red, a bit black, across the palate. If this is representative, Brunello will do just fine with the modern style.

Poured an hour before tasting. A hint of rust in the otherwise clear violet. Lots of typicity in the nose of plum, pine, leather, barnyard. Round on the palate, if still a little young, fresh black plum progressing into tart berry, licorice, a hint of caramel. Moderate rustic tannins, with a hot, slightly saccharine finish that to some extent undermines the otherwise excellent wine at the moment. Already quite good, I think it'll be a little more balanced in about two more years.

Ja, was soll ich da sagen.

A fragrant classic aroma mixed with an unmistakably house-style tinge of musk on the open. Silky texture, polished wine, tasting of fleshy dark cherry, animal aromatics accented by wood tannins. Finished a bit short, bit too slick. A modern, fruit forward cellar-made wine.

I start by saying that I like it only because I do not not like this wine!
Nose: Tomatoes, black fruits. Decent 86-88. But honestly nothing exceptional and I have had other BdMs with more bouquet.
Taste: pretty neutral somewhat fruity. 85-86 (generous given the price)
Honestly nothing to write home about and certainly not worth the price. Given the high reviews i read here I wonder if it was not my bottle that was under par .... I guess I will never know.

Reduced maraschino cherries and strawberry compote, leather and a touch of mild oak with dry italian herbs (sage). On the palate, delicated and mid weight carrying enough fruit and flavor punching way above its weight. A delight and amazing value as i paid $29 for this bottle. Best value on planet earth.

Tasted this alongside the same vintage Casanova di Neri BdM (white label), with which this ran neck and neck, or just short of it. A prototypical Brunello, notably pure, entirely expressive of style and place. No edges, exceptional balance. Let it rest another five to seven years and enjoy through 2035+.

- Garnet color - This wine is getting some mixed reviews, and something was off when I first opened it an odd fruit note I could not put my finger on. But it improved significantly on day 2. Earthy, dried cherry, orange peel and moderate tannins. Very minor browning at the rim. Give it some time in the decanter. I don't think you have to rush to drink it, but it is drinking well now.

Decanted an hour before tasting, quite a bit better a few hours in. Clear, dark, starting to brick. Nose of black plum and ample barnyard. A shade more acidic to the taste, but nicely in balance, with a good cross-palate progression: wild strawberry up front, moving into blackberry, cedar, leather, sous bois, a bit of rubber tire, nice minerality. Medium-long finish runs a smidge bitter on its own, food brings out a welcome sweetness. Tannins in balance. Plenty of life left in it, but I don't get the impression it's going to integrate much further. Was lucky enough to get this for under $30; not an all-time stunner, but I couldn't ask for more at the price point.

I hold Altesino an this wine presented. The bouquet is flowery. The wine is easily drinkable. My problem is the body, medium at best and lack of intense flavor. This may be representative of the new age brunello, but I am left disappointed, especially for a widely heralded vintage.

Jugged for an hour beforehand in a cool decanter at TRB in Beijing (see above), this was a cracker of a Brunello from an excellent vintage. Even though it was their "standard" wine, it was full of flavour and complexity: red cherries and sweet spice kicked things off on nose and palate, before a beautiful floral angle bought delicacy to proceedings. Powerful and rich, yet light on its feet, this has absolutely years left in it. A real winner.

- Crimsom color with slow forming legs. It's balanced with a medium/full body. Bright texture with a medium finish - Really terrific one. It had deep cherry flavors that were very intense andlasting. Wine opened up over a two hour decant and was really good for the next two hours. I think the wind will improve in the cellar and should be great in another year or two.

I decanted this wine 3 hours prior to drinking with dinner so it had ample exposure to the air for it to open up. The colour is quite evolved, medium weight with a silky texture in the mouth. The bouquet I found quite restrained and found the finish incredibly dry with the oak being quite noticeable. To be fair I have not drunk a lot of Brunello's of late so its unfair of me to pass judgement if its typical for the region in stylistic terms. Not a wine I would be eager to purchase again but so pleased that I have gained some knowledge having had the opportunity to taste this vintage.

Nose - medium plus. Ripe sour cherry. There is a medicinal quality that is hard to describe. An intriguing medicinal quality that for me is unusual for a Brunello. Coming out as licorice.
Palate - sour cherry and black pepper. Medium alcohol, medium acidity, medium intentisity. Medium alcohol.
It s a nice wine. I think now is the drinking window. Not sure the aging potential (imho)

I've dropped my rating by a point from my last experience, which came after drinking a discount wine before hand. However, i still think this is a fantastic wine. The body isn't as heavy or full as most BdMs, but the nose is intoxicating and the body has a lot going on. Balance and drinking so well with a short decant. Cherries, herbs, licorice and earth combined with just enough acidity and silky tannins. Medium finish. A great product at a great price and drinking so well for a young 2010 BdM.

A rather vivid, traditional Sangiovese nose of sour cherry, dusty minerals, myrtle-orange (chinotto), and Mediterranean herbs. This opens up nicely after about an hour, and is quite ready to drink. Tight, composed, and very agile on the palate, with a return to sour cherry notes, but balanced by deep, spicy earthiness. Some meaty and smoky notes combine with good acidity and sweet-tempered tannins. Reminds me, oddly, of a decent Hermitage. Not hugely full bodied and not in the least overwrought. It lacks some depth, though and is a touch slender on the palate, though the length is very good indeed.
Has some life in it still. As a relatively traditional style of Brunello, it should age well and is frankly rather good value for the money.

Decanted for about 20-30 min. Rich and bright red fruits. Just enough acidity and soft tannins make this beautifully balanced wine a joy to drink. Medium body, and not as complex as most BdMs, but still an abundance of flavor going on for such an easy drinking wine. Big crowd pleasure! Probably doesn't have a huge and typical BdM life ahead of it, but certainly should improve over a few more years.

Rustic, tight and sweet. Stable, red fruit, and candy nose. Enters like a bold champ, then it fizzles a bit and wakes you up on exit with a tight statement. This wine drinking at its best already. I don't think that I would hold this wine, because its probably sexier while young. Drink

HDH holiday tasting (Chicago, IL): From magnum. You gotta be kidding me. This is the stuff that all the "critics" have been trying to sling? The vaunted 2010: the Brunello vintage of the year/decade/century/millenium. Beyond the pleasant red fruit, what else is there? Spicy oak? Yeah, I love me some spicy oak.
Outstanding wine - Clean minty cedar nose, a gorgeous mouthful of smooth delicious blackcurrants, accompanied by a lovely hint of orange curd, and rounded out with a dry grippy finish - superb now and will likely improve nicely over the next 2-6 years. This is an incredibly approachable wine.

Continuing with the 2010 BdM VivinoVancouver blind tasting of bottles that are readily available here in BC. 6 great bottles battle blind, and this one ranked 3rd in my opinion as well the groups. This entry level Altesino BdM was just released here in BC and proved to be the most approachable of the 6. Huge aromas of rose petal with underlying black fruit, licorice and spice. Well balanced with medium tannins and acidity. This is your best bet for an early drinking 2010 BdM.

2010 Altesino Brunello Di Montalcino
Cellared since purchase on release
Coravined Feb 20, 2023; Opened Feb 21-22 2023
Light purple core in the glass with ring of surrounding garnet color, transitioning to brown at the rim.

Fun night of sampling doc's 3 Livita bottle pours.. cheers!

Popped and poured. Nose still a bit tight, but berries and crushed red cherries. Very fine in the mouth, well balanced. Very good finish, with a touch of pleasing sweetness.
Not the most complex Brunello, but a very enjoyable wine that is still on the upswing.

First time trying a BdM. Intriguing nose but I thought the sample from Coravin I tried in store prior to purchase was much better. The aromatics here are really good, very fragrant. Potpurri. Red fruits on the palate with good acidity. Finish wasn't particularly memorable.

I hold Altesino an this wine presented. The bouquet is flowery. The wine is easily drinkable. My problem is the body, medium at best and lack of intense flavor. This may be representative of the new age brunello, but I am left disappointed, especially for a widely heralded vintage.

Decant: 3 and a half hours
Appearance: nice transparent ruby color with a little bricking at the rim
Nose: cherries, oak, a bit of raisins or stewed fruits
Palate: more cherries and oak
Mouthfeel: tannins are smooth but still velvety, some bite from the alcohol
Finish: missing length and still a bit bitter
Conclusion: overall very nice, needs a couple more years but still enjoyed this wine

Appearance - clear, medium ruby

Already showing signs of age with its light garnet color and bricking on the rim. A medium body, feminine style BdM with a nose of smokey rose petals, licorice and cedar followed up with a tart cherry and strawberry flavors. Nicely balanced and drinking very well right now.
