Super perfumed, cooked plums, blueberry syrup, baking spices in the nose. Flavors are full of plums and black/blue berries. 10 years in bottle have smoothed it out beautifully, silky smooth. A wonderful mixed-blacks Cali wine.

This was a bit more plummy/jammy than the last bottle - lacking the energy and bright fruit I associate with this vineyard. Usually these wines say more ‘Evangelho’ than any one grape, but this was very much saying Zin tonight. Still, this paired well with Flannery ribeyes

Beautiful Mourvedre (Mataro) profile: spicy, savory, meat drippings, licorice, Christmas spice, filled in crunch red fruit of Carignane with some Zinfandel bramble. Firm acidity and more tannin than I remember from an earlier bottle. Needs several hours to open up and should age well another 2 to 4 years.
Congrats to Bedrock for choosing to focus on this very old vineyard with a high Mourvedre content. The sandy soils have allowed Mataro to survive on its own roots. It was not until the after WWII that Mataro could be matched with a phylloxera resistant root stock.

very dark clear garnet color with as 3mm clear meniscus.
Quite a plummy nose of fresh jam, some tar and turned soil.
Starts with rich sweet blackberries and blueberries. Has quite a ferrous mid palate, and ends with good acid presence, a touch of bitterness and spice.
Seems maybe a little more serious and reticent than other Evangelhos i've had.

This wine is coming together nicely, but I believe it is still evolving. Red and dark fruit, garrigue, wild herbs and tobacco leaves. The dark fruit emerges to the front halfway through the bottle. Layers of goodness here. In another three years, this will deliver the “X” factor that I look for in a great wine. Patience will be rewarded.

Bedrock always pleases. Solid wine. Really enjoyed by the group while it was served for dinner last night. Decanted for 2 hrs. Dark berries, tobacco, leather on the palate; which is supported by a solid, but not overbearing, tannic structure. Very enjoyable.

Drinking my second and last bottle a year later. Not awful, but not as good as many other Bedrock's we've had. Some disjointedness with oak, bramble, and alcohol at the forefront. This may settle down further in a few years, but not destined to be a great wine. They can't all be home runs. Drink now or hold a few more years.

I'm about as big of a Bedrock fan as it gets, but this wine was a hot mess at PnP. A massive oak bomb that I could barely stand to take a sniff of. Let it sit in the bottle for 4 hours and it settled down some to reveal some purple florals and red fruits....but still masked by a wall of oak. I love the Evangelo story and always want to like these wines more but they're never my favorite Bedrock offering. Combine that with the fact that pretty much all single vineyard BR wines I've tried from the 13 vintage seem to need a LOT more time, makes this a complete and utter HOLD.
Day 2 and this has toned down quite a bit with the oak much less prominent. Now a nice wine with savory purple fruits and a hint of orange/citrus on the finish (long finish which is probably my favorite part). Definitely better tonight compared to yesterday, but still not setting my world on fire. I'll take a Bedrock/Dolinsek/Pagani/Mo nteRosso Heritage over this any day of the week.
Quite a nice showing. Sour cherry dominates. Didn't take detailed notes but this seems to be drinking well at present. Has the stuffing to last another 5 to 10 years. Love this vineyard.

I do like the style here and the wine has a lovely silky texture and tasty dark berry fruit. But just when I'm looking for some complexity on the finish I find a rather harsh acidic finale. I wanted to like this and I will try more Bedrock wines but a great wine can't have a finish like this. I tried it with several kinds of foods with the same result.

The nose was gorgeous, opening with a display of crushed wildberry fruits, cracked pepper, wild violet floral and minty herbal tones, crushed stone, and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, I found soft, creamy textures, offset by spiced blackberry and sour cherry fruits, as sweet herbal tones and minerals washed across the senses, guided by brisk acids. The finish was long, yet much fresher than expected, as hints of spice and tart blackberry lingered and the mouth watered, coaxed by hints of lively acidity which seemed to cling to the palate.

Coop's. Saturated red fruit flavors that failed to convey the spicy-zinny thing I expected based on the '12, and a bit more grip would have been appreciated. Would drink, not hold.

Easy drinking wine. No excessive acidity, such as noted in bottle opened last year. I feel that it may have reached its maximum potential now and would therefore recommend that you drink up soon. Medium-bodied with soft tannins. Nice red fruit notes. (Night 1 = 89 pts) On Night 2, I bumped up my score to 90 - - the wine is very plush now and well-balanced. More dark blue fruits have emerged. The drinking window might still be open for a few more years.

I certainly wasn't drinking what everyone else below was. No nose to speak of. Some tannins. Thinnish. After 60 minutes, the wine was fuller tasting, but certainly nothing special. Same goes for the second night. Dinner at home > hamburger. I'd bring this to dinner with non -geeks if you know what I mean.
All components blended well here, though each contributed something to the blend. Dark smokey mouvedre, briary raspberry carginane, black cherry zin. Outstanding.

Nice Mourvèdre background with a number of other flavors in addition (IIRC this is a field blend). Fairly robust but smooth, drinks nicely and complements a variety of foods. Very good balance and length. 11/26/21: Didn't care for this one so much. Overly heavy and a bit disjointed.

PnP, then drank over the course of two hours. It opened up quite a bit towards the end, especially on the nose. Deep garnet in color. A lot of Carignane character coming through, with the higher acidity and crunchy red fruit. Floral nose/potpourri with a minty freshness. The palate has plenty of plum, raspberry, and gamey notes, offset by a nectarine-like acidity. A touch of bitterness on the 20 second+ finish. There’s a Nebbiolo-like quality that I can’t quite put my finger on. Super fresh and delicious, this strikes me as a very pure expression of the sandy terrior of Evangelho.

This followed several other bottles, so not scoring. Wine seemed a bit light, but in fairness, followed a powerful Napa cabernet. Seemed a bit one-note, but will give our one other bottle a more thorough review when we open.

I'm giving this a 93 based on night two. First night was good, blueberry, vanilla, pepper and a load of fruit made for a good wine but was missing something tying it all together. Left uncorked overnight, that added a real wow factor of extra flavors. Leads me to believe my other bottle should sit tight for a few more years.

Popped one hour before first pour, consumed over 3 hours. Nose: Expressive scents of bright spicy red fruit - cherry and strawberry, with dark fruit undertones - blueberry and black berry, with black dirt and gamey notes, really interesting and quite complex. Palate: Medium bodied, attack is dominated by bright red fruit and spice, plenty of acidic backbone to balance it out through the mid-palate, spice continues through the back-end where gamey - venison - and sweet tobacco notes join in. Finish: Lengthy 30-45 seconds dominated by spice, game, red fruit, and sweet tobacco.

The wine is more acidic than I would like, as other CT tasters have noted, but by Night 2 this bottle had mellowed and smoothed out a bit. Juicy red fruit notes. I respect and applaud the hard work by Morgan to preserve and promote historic California vineyards.

This is elegant...and it walks the line between blue & black fruits with a hint of spice and at the tail end of it all there's just the slightest bit of heat on the nose. The palate is smooth and leads from dark chocolate to blueberries and pomegranate. This is lovely...and I would gladly drink this again. I'm not sure I'd buy again at $46...but at $30 I'd be buying 2-3 bottles. Medium body, med+ acidity, med+ fruit, and a moderate length finish. Outstanding.

Agree with most prior TNs. Very light on its feet for a Zin, but not without its finesse. What it lacks in spice and power, it provides in beauty. Not at the top of my list for the Bedrock zins, but no complaints either. Well done and complimented our Turkey on Thanksgiving.

love this vineyard, and this vintage stacks up well (like much better than 2012). more structure and angles than I'd expected... going to wait a few more years before cracking another. Still, the fruit is pretty, there's acidic energy, bright raspberry, pomegranate, blackberry, and some black pepper.

Great fruit up front but fades into a tart, almost bitter finish. Perhaps this is the minerality that some speak about but I find it a bit unpleasant. You can find much better for the price.
A very interesting field blend that had that delicious factor with black and blue fruits, chalk, gravel, fresh tilled soil, good acids and tannin structure.

Tasted double-blind. Knew it was a California, probably a field blend, being reminiscent of Thackrey or Scholium Project offerings. Exceptionally well made, lively and rich, yet balanced and featuring stalwart acid and substance. A fun and interesting wine that can be enjoyed now and for many years to come.

Last Bedrock Evangelho I had was the '11, and this one was a complete departure in style. This wine had none of the wonderful crunchy red berries and lively acidity of the '11. Instead, the '13 had low acidity with dark red fruits that were flat, muddled and a bit roasted. Two very different vintages of course but still underwhelmed by this wine based on its own merits.
14.4% abv. Dark ruby with expressive aromatics. Plumb, cherry, spice and a delightful floral component. High toned with ecveptional depth and length. This is brilliant Evangelho, one of the best expressions I've tasted. Should continue to develop well for several years.

Opened eight hours in advance. Not your usual jammy Zin blend, but also not something anyone would call "light." Nice dark fruits and some strawberry, but would have liked even a little more acid and structure. A nice wine, but not overly memorable. Paired well with cheese at the end of a meal.

Surprised anyone below would say jammy or big. This is the antithesis of that. The body is light, alcohol isn't high, tannins aren't soul destroying. It's a zin dominated blend for sure but on the light and crunchy and fruity side. Raspberry strawberry and almost beaujolais like feel. Very old vines. Great juice for the price.

An OK wiine, but FAR from my favorite Bedrock. Too much upfront fruit--blueberry and, yes, prune--for my taste. Minimal tannin and acid makes, for me, an not particularly complex wine.

Was planning on popping an 11, but I snagged the wrong vintage from my off-site and was too lazy to go back and swap it out. Figured it wouldn't hurt to check in on this anyway, as the Evangelho usually drinks well fairly early anyway, right?? Wrong. This was nowhere near ready IMHO. Oak dominates, and while there's beautiful fruit underneath, it needs plenty of time to integrate and come together. I have a feeling this will be a knockout in 3 to 5 years, but the rest of mine will head straight to the back of the Cellar. HOLD.

Packed with black fruit and spices, but a bit sugary/tannin-bitter/clunky for my tastes and it was a struggle to finish. I would like to know how these settle in after 10 years though, because it absolutely has stuffing.

Sadly this was a a PnP. After sipping on the end of it for an hour it had really opened up. Dense purple hue with sparse legs. Plum and blackberry jam notes lead to a well balanced palate of field fruit with some earth and graphite showing through the back end. A long finish shows off the soft tannins and moderate acid. This wine is great now after a decant but will likely improve for the next couple years.

Very reticent to give up much on the nose, just a bit of red berry and earth. Wonderful taste of a mix of red and black fruit and baking spice. While lighter than many field blends, it still has a nice velvety mouthfeel with some dusty tannins on the finish. Must be that Contra Costa sand!

Vibrant purple color. Juicy blackberries, rasperries, red cherries, gushing yet tart, dashed with clove, violets, sweet eucalyptus and anise cookies. Forward but maintains freshness on the palate, fleshy tannins, tart acid, an easily drinkable 14.1% alcohol. Tart blackberry and cherry fruit, gushing summer plums, tart skins, throw the pits in there too, that’s the flavor profile. Complex notes of mossy soil, wet leaves, coffee grounds, and this sweet spice combo like eucalyptus, black pepper and soy, and I love it. Full and boisterous, yet still elegant, lingering graphite and rock elements. An old vine beauty. Even more expressive and refined on day two. I’d love to revisit this in three years. Carignane, Zinfandel and Mourvedre.
This is remarkably ready to go, given its youth. It's definitely on the lean side for a California Zin. It's got bright, ripe raspberry and Bing cherry fruit up front, but the graphite and spice mid is the primary here. A little bit of smoke and game, rounds the flavor profile, and it seemed almost more of Grenache profile, to me. Strong, but not intrusive, tannic backbone, and a big pop of acid. This could definitely develop, but I don't think it necessarily "needs" more time.

Always a favorite of mine - interesting vineyard location, great "little engine that could" character to it - I always pull for the underdog.
This one is ready to go. That is, it'll be a different wine in a year or two, and should develop much longer than that for anyone who's interested, but it's in a very enjoyable spot already. Bright blackberry/huckleberry, black pepper spice... often "spicy" means alcohol but that's not what I get here. Interesting to see the impact of mourvedre without dirt (sand instead), as this wine has depth without earthy stink.
Gains depth on day 2.
Like 2013 better than '12 for this one. '11 is still a special wine for me.

California New Wave & Old Guard Tasting: This wine is mostly Zin based. The aromas are soft, and surprisingly light on fruit aroma considering the makeup. There's some spice and light alcohol noted (listed as 14.1%). The palate is quite soft and pretty, with nice fruit on entry. Pure smooth fruit and high acid keeps this alive in the mouth. On the finish, there's a huge dial up of rich acid and puckering fruit. Pretty lovely and enjoyable, actually.

Nicely balanced. Cherry nose, reasonable grip but not in your face with a delicate but acidic finish all the while with a new forward sweet fruit. Nicely done
Nice wine which is hard to pin down. It is surprising light for the blend and 14% alcohol. Nicely balanced with great dark fruit and gamey flavors. I think this will age beautifully as it came to life after being open for about an hour. I wouldn't touch these for 3-4 years minimum. Did pair nicely with Pork chop with baked beans. Baked Beans can be a tough pairing but this worked out.

Started with a quick pop and pour at 5:30 PM, and it was simple, grapey and frankly uninspiring. Came back to it around 7 PM, and it was a different wine. The grapey elements had pulled back, and herbal, dusty, earthy elements had joined the fruit to make a much more complex and interesting wine. There is still a ton of primary fruit that makes me inclined to age the wine rather than consume much of it any time soon. Very enjoyable and a good value.

Vibrant and coiled, this is a distinctive blend showcasing strong minerality and acid. Red fruit and baking spice with a streak of saline (I saw some pictures of the vines, they look like they're growing out of a beach!) Definitely a good amount of zinfandel in there but with none of the negative qualities that grape has tied to it's reputation.
It has a modest structure, so maybe mid-term drinking? I would wait a few years for it to really shine, but a really nice blend.

Short 30 minute decant. Beautiful nose that surpasses the tasting that follows. Smells of fruits, vanilla, oak, floral notes, and spices. Taste is of dark berries, cranberry, graphite, minerals. Medium body and has a subtle finish that hints at a splash of water in the glass. Aside from bright acidity this is well balanced. Smooth and not tannic. Reminds of Pinot Noir in a way. Next time, I'll try to pair with food that demands acidity (hearty tomato sauce or vinaigrette flavored).

First Night (Decanted 2 hrs): A tasty, complex big red wine. The noticeable alcohol finish throws off the balance of what could have been/still be an exceptionally fantastic wine. 2nd night (Vacuum sealed): wine was much more mellowed and focused, wonderfully showing off the zinfandel.

Fairly deep red color. Nice aromas of ripe fruit, oak, camphor and earthiness. Dark red fruit and medium body with the typical low-acid, soft tannin Evangelho profile. This one is better that the 2012 and almost up to the level of the 2011. I'd be tempted to drink sooner rather than hang on to this one for the long term.

From memory from small pour at pick-up day. Recognizable as Evangelho, with it's red fruit, great acidity and floral notes. A little more structure than previous vintages giving it a velvet texture. Again, seems like a great choice for the Thanksgiving table.

Firm acidity and more tannin than I remember from an earlier bottle. Needs several hours to open up and should age well another 2 to 4 years.

Surprised anyone below would say jammy or big. This is the antithesis of that. The body is light, alcohol isn't high, tannins aren't soul destroying. Oak dominates, and while there's beautiful fruit underneath, it needs plenty of time to integrate and come together.

Great every day drinking wine. Well defined, sharp, favors. Bright red fruit, good glycerin. Short finish. Very enjoyable. Great wine for the cost, too.

From memory from small pour at pick-up day. Recognizable as Evangelho, with it's red fruit, great acidity and floral notes. A little more structure than previous vintages giving it a velvet texture. Again, seems like a great choice for the Thanksgiving table.

- Medium body. Satin-Like texture with a medium finish - Pleasant, easy drinking blend. Paired well with cider roasted pork chops.

A good red sipper, not too flashy or overpowering.
