Restaurant purchase with poke; this has a richer nose with honeyed brioche alongside baked apple and pear tart; silky mouthfeel with good depth for the price point; I enjoyed this quite a bit and it is a good value.

Disgorged 12/22. Not sure if this is different release than the others have been describing but this is about as full throttle as BdB gets for me. Borders on rich fruit but acidity keeps it on edge. Have been drinking more blanc de noir lately and this provides same guts but without the earthiness. Yum. Drink now but can hold too I think.

From the 2017 release, no idea what vintages but presume 2008-2010. Don't have the details, but this seems a pure blanc de blanc and low but existent dosage (I'd guess about 2-3gr). Needs air to open up - very chalky nose and in the mouth it's focused and not at all broad. All a bit tart apple without much interest - although some almond with air. Quite light-weight and mousse isn't very fine. Nothing like other notes here - maybe they changed the style. Consistent with the last ~18 bottles consumed to date. 88-89pts

Blanc des blancs, Full fruit, showing it’s dosage. A pleasing table champagne. Lacking the interest of other growers today, at least to my palate. Just a little full and easy.

Medium yellow gold in color. Aromas of yellow citrus oils, stone fruits, nut oils and toast. Ample and mouth filling palate shows the stony and citrus orchard fruits, very good acidity and a long creamy/saline finish.

100% Chardonnay, 8g/l dosage. Hefty champagne which made me thought there was Pinot in the blend. Lots of green apples, made in a more oxidative, toasty style. Food friendly but the dosage sticks out a bit as the wine doesn't have the richness to balance it out, giving a rather coarse texture.

Golden yellow, fine mousse. Nose of dried flowers and rich fruits, it's quite full and intense with good minerality. Medium full body, nice lengthy finish. This feels still a touch tight though, despite oxidative methods. I would leave it for a few more years, or perhaps a decant...

100% Chardonnay. Light golden color. Lime, caramel, minerals and a bit of cask and vanilla in the nose. Pleasant taste of citrus fruits, lime, apple, pear and a bit of vanilla. Superb acidity and a little 'warm' aftertaste. Great champagne for the price point but was lacking a little.

Disgorged 9-28-2018. Fantastic nose full of yeasty goodness! Toasted brioche and a smoky lees character. Electric palate full of quince paste, apricot preserves slathered on toasted Chalhah. Bright and fresh while also being complex and well-aged. This is expressive and delicious! Not sure this has the bones to age, but why would you when it’s this delicious! 93

Terry Thiese Champagne Portfolio Tasting (Pops for Champagne, Chicago IL): The nose is balanced and well put together with pears, almonds, white fruits, peaches, apples, brioche, biscuits, and crushed rocks. The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, high acidity. The acidity is well integrated and balanced while the feel shows off good texture. This is a fun and balanced Blanc de Blancs that is well put together with a lot of fresh, citrus tones and lees notes.

I served this in my wine course. Lactic nose, with also a strong dose of hazelnut. Hazelnut combines with something sweeter, which along with the creamy textures, creates the impression of Nutella in the mouth, which then eventually transitions into grapefruit rind in the finish. Fairly complex and impressive wine.

According to AG, this wine is made from a single parcel of old vines in Avize and dosed at 7g/L. This particular example was purchased in 2014 and is said to be based on 2008. I've previously found this release to show excessive sweetness, however it seems to have finally eaten its dosage. It now tastes quite dry. However it remains an underwhelming Blanc de Blancs and shows virtually no development, just a trace of doughy richness on the back of the palate. It seems to be aging at a glacial pace like many 2008s. Day 2 update: Just a glass left, but this is much improved and now shows as a classic Cote de Blancs chardonnay with green apple fruit and rich, pastry developing notes. Will hold my last bottle until 2022 hoping to find it in the pocket.

Drank it over two days, very surprised how this wine evolved. On the first day, the nose was a bit funky, got some white chocolate and cow cheese nose, and the palate was mineral but quiet. On the second day, the wine opened up drastically, on the nose, almond, white flowers, peaches, and minerals, on the palate, the texture was round yet with intensity, fruits were quite expressive yet balanced and there was a creamy touch into finish. Pretty solid wine.

7/7/2107 disgorgement. Wonderful fruit. Well balanced acidity. The thing I can't get past was the bubbles. Too much carbonation. I would burp after every sip. I thought some time might help; however even after an hour in the glass same thing...

Nice light golden color- presumably from bottle aging. No disgorgement info on the bottle, but the web site indicates this was aged 5 years on its lees prior to release.
Evolving nose of citrus, puff pastry and some apple and spice. I would guess the nose will gain more complexity with a few more years in the bottle.
Plenty of acidity, medium bodied with medium plus (not quite long) finish. Overall well done. This was drunk on its own, but I think would stand up well with food. Drink now or hold for up to five more years (for this disgorgement anyway...)

Opened to help celebrate Miles and Ruth Ann's 50th at Saul's in Berkeley. Pale yellow in color, with very fragrant nose. Citrus, apple along with some challah notes on the palate. Lively. I was hoping this would be good, but it was even better than expected.

Open That Bottle Night 2018 (Johns Creek, GA): A disgorgement from 2011 this was darker amber in color; nose showed quite nutty with autolysis and lots of bread dough; palate was broad and coating with loads of red cherry, yeast and red fruit and pear, really interesting and fun to taste.

great nose. tough to decide if it's coco wheats, cookie dough, or cookie crisp cereal....but you get it. palate exactly medium bodied with a well proportioned amount of medium bead. zesty citrus, stone, chalk, and a more subtle rolling baked good finish of medium length.

I bought this at the last minute before joining the rest of the team for dinner at La Trompette. I din't take notes at the time but this was very precise and well made with out blowing me away. If I can find a better price than the £49 I paid, I'll give this another go when I'm not hopelessly late for a BYO dinner.

Light to mid straw with reasonably vigorous mousse. Moderately creamy, lemon, slightly spiced pear, floral and orchard hints, firm streak of acidity, ultimately a little lacking in intensity; I was quite underwhelmed - the bottle gives no lot number or disgorgement date, but I wondered if it was a 2011 base.

The nose showed bright apple, dusty minerality, and wild flowers. It was rich on the palate, with balanced zesty bubbles, minerals, green apple and brisk acidity adding energy. The finish was long with minerals and juicy acidity.

Very pale yellow in color. Granny smith apples & pit orchard fruits, citrus oils, slate, graphite and yellow flowers on the very airy nose. A broad, mouth coating palate shows yellowish-green pit orchard fruits, a savory broth element, good acidity and an intense mineral laden finish.

Outstanding! Stunning quality. This wine is drinking very well right now. It has loosened up after a few years in the cellar.
Bright lemon, rich honey and flowers on the nose. The dense old vine fruit really shows, especially after a little air, warmth and removal of some bubbles. The bright lemon and rich honey flavors follow through to the palate but it quickly turns chalky and mineral on the long finish. Great balance of acidity and fruit. Very pure, dense old vine fruit but very fresh and mineral at the same time. Great combo of richness and elegance, the holy grail of great wine.
No hurry to drink these, very fresh, many years of life left. I was really wowed by the quality of this.
2008 base vintage. 100 percent chard from 75 year old vines. I am a big fan of this cuvee. This cuvee does better with time in the cellar, my preference is around 4 years. The balance is here, with fruit, chalk and minerality. This is still young, and I adore this.

Wow - I have seen a few nice notes on this, and although I was excited to try this bubbly and the producer for the 1st time, I was blown away by how good this was. Lots of cut, with laser sharp citrus, a touch of green apple, and spice (white pepper?), that leads into a mineral laced finish with the razor sharp acidity and citrus pith leading the charge on the utterly delicious lip smacking finish that beckons, no, make that screams at you to take another sip. Wish I had purchased a case. I usually drink my Champers out of Zalto Universal glasses, but with all the chatter on WB about tulip shaped flutes, I decided to buy some (Stolzle Quatrophil). So, into the flutes this went. Very tight stream of small bubbles and it is nice to experience the effervescence of a good Champagne. The main difference I find between the 2 vessels is the Universal presents a more still wine expression, which I think I still prefer, but the tulip shape flute also has it's good points, which is mainly being able to enjoy the bubbles. Will be an interesting journey deciding which glass to use and is it more mood based or producer based.

A Hedonistic Night of Burgs, Bordeaux, and CDP at Tilia (Tilia, Mpls): Light gold color. drank 2 glasses over an hour plus. This hit me right tonight. I like the elegance of the the Fourny, but this shows in its own way with a power and verve. The citrus and apple, followed by the vivacious minerality and citrus pith,t really shines with a power and depth that can't be denied. Quite lengthy on the finish. I enjoyed this much more tonight. While still on the chalky side, it was much more diverse. 91+pts.

The steely-ness of a newly-released Varnier-Fanniere is throwing me off here, but the truth is there's a lot of wine in this glass. All from a single parcel in Avize where the vines are 77+ yrs, it's 08/09, and incredibly tense and chalky.

From 1 parcel of 70 year old vines, Grand Cru Avize Chardonnay grapes, 60% 2009 and 40% 2008. Spectacular juice that really performs better in a white boredeaux glass and opens incredibly with air. Intitially you get a very slight yeasty toastyness and then that laser like graphite precision. With time in the glass becomes rounder and fruit really shines. Completely different style compared to the 2006 Gimonnet Cuvee Fleuron which is creamier but I love it in a different way. Is there a better value then great grower Champagne, I think not!

Opened by Mark. This is a small estate with only 4ha all Grand Cru and located in the Cote des Blancs. 2nd time I have had this with consistent notes. Drank after a Gratien Brut which paled in comparison. Light straw color. Strong bead. Clean with notes of chalk, pear and almonds. Typical Cote des Blancs. Very pretty. Made from 70 year old vines which will be torn out and replanted in the next few years. 92 points.

Strange on the nose: red licorice, banana peel, some pear, grapefruit, toasted notes. Nice and refreshing on the palate, critic fruits (grapefruit), apricots, mineral notes and good after taste. It´s a good champagne, but I prefer the style of the last ones tasted.

End-of-Summer bounty with wines (Chicago): Giving aromas of yeastiness and yellow fruit. Not sure I smelled the pencil I was told was characteristic of Avize though. But there was something distinctive about the nose for sure. Pity I seem to be adjectivally challenged to describe it. On the palate this was light-weight but rounded and gently textured, inviting the next sip with its sheer tastiness.

Wow, what an outstanding bottle of wine. The Avize terroir is very noticable. This is a steal compared to many other NVs in the same price. If anything, the mousse is a little too persistent but that could be of a recent disgorgement date as this info was not on the label. However, it didn't seem that young but that probably due to the prolonged time on lees. I strongly recommend this one.

This had some obvious bottle age. Must have been at the shop a while because I only bought it last spring... Oxidized autolytics, mostly sourdough, eventually gave way to spiced apple and almonds. Immaculately balanced. Lithe acid and a compelling mineral structure provide real depth. Masculine for a blanc de blanc. This wine had real stature but still falls short of the Theise catalog description. (Next day: checked the cork. Not a trace of expansion. This one might have been in a dark corner of the wine shop for even longer than I first suspected...)

All Chard from the Avize vineyard. Straightforward with decent fruit and acidity. Slightly dry finish. Not showing the intensity or lushness I hoped for and seemed to lack complexity, despite this I did enjoy the wine. Would not buy again at the price point, though I would happily drink it

60% 2001 40% 2002, from 65 year old vines in Avize and 7 g/l dosage. Much more concentration and extract here, a little forward some honeysuckle and light flowers, light to medium weight but this is bound to gain intensity and body with time, full malo contributing to its deceptively simple charm. Finishes with almost tannic acidity, one for the cellar despite how hard it is trying to please right now.XX

If anything, the mousse is a little too persistent but that could be of a recent disgorgement date as this info was not on the label. However, it didn't seem that young but that probably due to the prolonged time on lees. I strongly recommend this one.

Nice and rounded fruit, ripe but fresh, holding well, no rush.

Simple, straightforward. Slightly dry finish. Good party champagne but not for long-term quality collecting.

Hart Davis Hart Champagne Tasting (Pops for Champagne, Chicago, IL): Very pale yellow-green, medium mousse. Nose of overripe apples (I'm curious what the blend was) and cream. Broad, dry palate, turning a bit bitter on a long finish.
