Got a few more bottles from Italy. One of my favourite budget Chianti Classicos. Has lovely lifted aromas of earthy leathery tomatoes, terracotta red and blue fruits with nice oak. Its medium bodied decently oaked terracotta infused red and blue fruits palate has great depth with impressive density, nice freshness and good length. 13.5%. Needs 3-4 hrs aeration. Drink now with Axoa de Veau or lay down 2-5 years. Superb value at under 20 Euros.

short decant, very little fine sediment, frankly not a reason to decant but a little air helps, only very slightest brown to rim, quite youthful colour even still with some purple, classic, fine Chianti nose, with lift, depth and complexity, very nice indeed, fine, fruity palate of medium body but good concentration, acid/dry Chianti finish, very true to style and thoroughly enjoyable, almost quaffable but that would not be fair to the real quality, top QPR, no rush to drink, could even get better, the score reflects the need to keep some top end for quality 30yr+ Bordeaux and Burgundy etc. but within its class and style this is a very nice Chianti indeed (13.5%)

Full body, concentrated with some intensity. A youthful and lively wine. Balanced medium plus acidity and tannins and the signature sourness of a Chianti. After a few hours of air there is abundance of violets, dark berries and plum.

I was tempted to say “Got wood?” and leave it at that, but that’s not entirely fair. For the first couple of hours there was a predominance of oak, but after a long while some fruit finally came out. What there was was dark and muted though. I’m not as thrilled by this as I used to be. Maybe it’s on the downswing?

Brought to a friends, shared over pizza and conversation. Slow O'd 3 hours before we got around to this. Sour cherry, blackberry, tobacco, herbs. Felt a little "gritty" but it wasn't; just similar impression. Less impressed than last bottle a year ago. But still a step above the '17 which is in our market now.

Smoking good Chianti man! Beautiful faint barnyard floating over a healthy wine full of tug and pull. Sweet and sour cherries, graphite, mushrooms…really classy and in perfect health. Damn worth finding! Drink now and over another 5 years with ease. 2016 is definitely the best vintage for Italian wine so far for me. Above and beyond 2010. These wines convey a great expression of terroir while being fresh and laser like in acidic balance.
opaque black-cherry red with hints of purple, youthful, fine, clean, elegant nose with good concentration, nuanced, palate of medium weight but good intensity, distinctly dry tannin at the finish, very typical Chianti character, nice wine, another few years probably even more beneficial (13.5%)

still quite youthful colour, no brown, fresh, fruity, fine and quite complex nose, classic Chianti character, nice, palate with quite rich fruit, distinctly dry finish and aftertaste, very good straightforward Chianti, might even mellow and gain some more complexity with a further 3-5 years in the cellar, however very drinkable now and went down a treat with home-made pizza, top QPR (13.5%)

Dark mostly opaque ruby. Bricking at the rim. Violets and garrique on the nose. Palate has ripe cherry, sour cherry, red licorice, cedar, violets, and asphalt. Nice intensity to it. Med-high acid, med alcohol, med-high tannin. Can do with food or hold it’s own. Nice wine. Capable of further aging. Maybe another 5-8 years if you’re inclined, but great now. For mass produced sub 20 dollar Chianti this is excellent.

cheers - question....I love this wine, but every bottle I opened had a green moldy top to the cork, under the foil. None of the bottles were affected by this mold. Funny thing is, I now remember that my first bottle was in a restaurant and they opened it in the back of the house and didn't present the cork. I knew that was weird, but the wine was so good, I initially didn't figure it out. I assumed they did that for efficiency in service. Delicious wine.....I will miss it.

Wow, this just doesn't quit! Its developed a smidge of meat underneath what is now undeniable Sangiovese juice. Its showing earthy fruit and a long, caressing finish that lasts 30 seconds. I hope this continues under the radar because if this is available, I don't need much more for my mid week red cravings...Drink
92/93. Loves air needs between 2-3 hrs aeration! Has lifted aromas of violets, earth, leathery chalky cherries+raspberries. Not as good as previous bottles of the same vintage. The barnyard/horse saddle was a little too pronounced with this bottle. I was hoping it would blow off but possibly flawed? Not rating.

This is a wonderful CCR that I've had a few times and this time I decanted for 2 hours and it definitely helped increase the level of fresh red cherries along with flavors of leather, violet and Tuscan earth. Very dry wine and great with pizza.

Ruby red in color. Aromas of cherries and raspberries with hints of leather and herbs. Medium+ acidity, medium tannins, medium- body and a medium finish.
The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like raspberry, cherry and oak. It tastes like raspberry, cherry and Herbes de Provence. The body is light/medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has high acidity.

cheers - After first drinking this in a local restaurant, I bought a case. This was the 2nd bottle from the case, and it was better than the 1st....so there is some bottle variation. This bottle was less fruit forward, with more oak aging present, which I personally like.

Repeat wine. Liked this so much I bought several more bottles. Similar notes as before but the oak influence was more pronounced in this bottle and thus a slightly lower score this time.
This is the best chianti I've had in years, just a joy to drink. Balanced, great fruit with a little tar and earth to really hold your interest. I need to grab a case while I can.
I very much enjoyed this CCR, better than many Brunellos that I've had. Loved the aged, dusty leather notes, fresh luscious red cherry, Tuscan dust and dirt, and tobacco.
still young purple-red colour, fine, rich, multifaceted nose, opens up with more air, quite powerful, rich, structured, sill youthful palate with distinct acidity and tannins at the finish, very nice young Chianti, no rush, should gain from a few years although good drinking already with some air, this is labelled 14%, other bottles are 13.5%, different casks, source material, not all a single final blend, excellent QPR
92/93. Has lifted well oaked aromas of coffee, mint, chalk, roses, blueberries, cherries and blackcurrant. Its juicy medium bodied supple yet spherical nicely oaked blue, black and red fruits palate has impressive depth on the middle. Ends longish, fresh and a bit chewy. 13.5%. Lay down 5-10 years+. Needs 3 hrs aeration. Superb Value at 16 Euros!
Mørk fiolett transparent rød. Friske bringebær. Kirsebær og menthol. Kjellerstøv og mynte, etterhvert vanilje. Syrlig friskhet med streng snerp. Fin tørrhet. Senere plomme og epleskrott. Tøff og intens avslutning.

i really like this wine. it is perfect for red sauce dinners or with pizza. it has nice body and smooth mouth feel. some chiantis can be acidic but i don't find that here. the price point is reasonable, allowing you to open the necessary bottles for the lasagna feed or the pizza party without breaking the bank. will be buying more if i can find it.
Love it. Creamy red fruit nose with some spicy accents. It’s very perfumed. Mouthfeel is medium body with juicy red fruits and a really nice spicy back end. Some tartness but welcome. Finish is mouthwatering with persistent tannins. Medium length. stays mouthwatering throughout. Lots going on.
Black currant, leather, earthy, red cherries and hint of tobacco on the nose. More red fruit on the palate with some earthy tones. Very good wine and high QPR.

The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), raspberry and violet. It tastes like blackberry, raspberry and raisin. The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. Decant for one hour.
92/93. This is a lovely wine. Has refined fragrant aromas of chalk, roses, blackberries, blackcurrants, earth, cherries and spice. Its freshly fruited nicely oaked spherical plush medium bodied nicely elegant chalky black and red fruits palate has superb depth and ends longish, fresh, tapering and a bit unknit. Amazing value at 16 Euros. Needs 90-120 mins aeration. Lay down 5-10 years+. 13.5%. This is my best Carpineto Riserva so far! Highly recommended! Its quality is worth wines 2/3 times its price! This is an improvement on the impressive 2015!
Seems like there is some bottle variation based on the notes below. This one was delicious and easy to drink with or without food. We drank it with a Lasagna with meat and sausage. Somewhat plush and rich, but not heavy or blowsy at all. Also, not as tannic or structured as I remember from the last bottle.
Good flavor intensity and complexity. Not at all grippy or tannic. However, flavor faded after a couple of hours, which has me a bit concerned. I’m still planning to buy a few more bottles and set them aside for a bit.
Some bottle variation here. Every aspect of this wine is muted. Drinkable but not very satisfying. On to the next bottle. Hold the phone…the wine opened up over night and is now displaying its pedigree. Leads me to believe this wine will live a long life.
Wow, this checks all the boxes for CCR. Nose is deeply perfumed and spicy. Medium to full body mouthfeel with a long spicy, grippy and mouthwatering finish. A little bottle variation on prior tasting but this one’s spot on. Has the structure to be long lived. Excellent wine. Drink or hold.
I had picked up a bottle of this and the Montepulciano but hadn't gotten around to trying them. I was happy to be able to taste this, the 2019 CC and the 2016 Brunello at the AWS conference this past weekend. All were very good, but this was especially delicious. Very young and structured, with lots of Chianti typicity. 100% Sangiovese. I just ordered a case. 2016 reminds me of 2010 in that there are a lot of really good wines in the vintage.
Characteristic tuscan nose, medium to full body, good structure, good fruit, and very balanced. Finish is juicy. Love this wine and I think will only improve over time. 2016 good vintage.
Deep, dark reddish garnet in color. Full, forward, & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, herbs, spices notes of cinnamon, minerals, some coffee notes & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & mulberries with herbs, spices & minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but should benefit & continue its development with additional aging. Very good QPR too.
Smooth and balanced like most of these 2016 Chianti. Nice raspberry fruit with coffee bean, earth, leather with a floral note lingering above the glass. Nice finish with good acidy. Fine grained tannin that seem well integrated at this point. Well done. Drink now-2026.
See my last TN. This time after some aeration cinnamon sticks are so predominant. Cherries, of course, as well. Wow, the odour of fresh cinnamon sticks! Excellent on the palate, too. This wine has a perfume so good you want to wear it!
Wow this is delicious. Incredible for the price. Incredible aromas of fruity cherry and wet rocks, flowers and earth. Delicious on its own but enough structure for heavier meal.
Yes, this is good juice! Lean, tight and elegant. Aroma of Coca Cola with cherries. I love the typicity. Very long. Carpineto is delivering year in year out. It blows away the vast majority of Chianti threefold or fourfold the price. It's so strange. By far the best supermarket wine out there.
Color: Transparent ruby. Nose: Red berries, cherries. Mouth: Excellent texture. Almost like ink. Intense berry aromas. I love the freshness. So far not as good as the 2015. At the beginning of the drinking window and it has many years ahead. The tannins are more pronounced than in 2015 but they are of good quality. I assume that this wine will improve in the future.
This Chianti is magenta in the glass with a bit of clarity. On the nose we find blueberry, blackberry, earth, mushroom, and wood.
On the palate there’s earth and mushroom on entry followed by muted notes of blackberry. The wine is light on the palate with a predominant rustic character all around. Mild tannins and medium finish.
Very dark ruby and good tart and acidic rather classical chianti taste and flavor profile. All in all a bit rustic and opaque. Good value but not utterly refined wine. Give it some air.

I opened this on Thursday and had a glass with dinner and then another glass on Friday both delicious using a VacuVin for freshness. Then on Sunday finished the bottle with a pressure cooked leg of lamb and this paired fantastic with the garlicky meat and red potatoes and creamed baby spinach. Carpineto is always one of my favorite Italian producers. I was very impressed by how this held up over the tastings. Cheers!
Popped and poured. Nose of violet, black cherry, blackberry, currant, tobacco leaf and dried herbs. Black and red fruit, tobacco, dried herbs, anise and fine tannins on the palate. Very long, rich finish with good depth. Medium to full bodied. A very good QPR. Served with baked lasagna.
Popped and poured. Nose of blackberry, black cherry, currant, tobacco, licorice and dried herbs. Black and red fruit, tobacco, licorice, cedar, dried herbs and fine tannins on the palate. Ripe and supple with a very long finish. Full bodied. A good QPR. Served with pasta, marinara and mushrooms.

Stained glass red light plays through it well legs soft Busy interesting nose cherries herbs hints of tobacco and earth get some old breaking down mushrooms. First sip was. A bit jarring though tannins were softer acid level felt off Let it sit for 30 minutes and it settled down marched the pleasantness of the nose. Each darn swirl and sip this got better wonderful drink easy to get your head into.
Popped and poured. Nose of violet, black cherry, blackberry, currant, tobacco leaf, licorice, loamy earth and dried herbs. Black fruit, tobacco, licorice, cedar, dried herbs and fine tannins on the palate. Long finish. Medium to full bodied. Served with grilled pizza.
Darker brick red, clear. Lovely nose with plenty of red/purple flowers, soil, leather, and sweet cherry. Medium-bodied, excellent structure, purity. This is a wine with soul that will probably show better 2024-2040+. Very long. highly recommended+

92/93. Has lovely scented aromas of cassis, cherries, chalk flowers+raspberries and coffee hints. Its medium bodied chewy, supple+spherical nicely oaked layered red+blue fruits palate ends longish, fresh and drying. 13.5%. Needs 2-3 hrs aeration.
Lay down 5-10 years easily! Had this with Spaghetti Bolognese and it accompanied the meal well. Wonderful value at 16 Euros.

Seems like there is some bottle variation based on the notes below. This one was delicious and easy to drink with or without food. We drank it with a Lasagna with meat and sausage.

On the palate there’s earth and mushroom on entry followed by muted notes of blackberry. The wine is light on the palate with a predominant rustic character all around. Mild tannins and medium finish.

Then on Sunday finished the bottle with a pressure cooked leg of lamb and this paired fantastic with the garlicky meat and red potatoes and creamed baby spinach.
Carpineto is always one of my favorite Italian producers. I was very impressed by how this held up over the tastings. Cheers!
