Decanted for two hours before enjoying with dinner. Tell-tale Latour scents of almonds, mint, green tobacco, and of course, cassis. This has plenty of energy to continue to evolve for a decade, but it’s wonderful now. Expressive and integrated with fruit that is still fresh. Drink or hold.

Couldn’t get much depth in the two hours we enjoyed this wine - just nice aged fully mature pauillac - basic , good but with no complexity or spirit . Maybe needed a loooong decant

Really did not become expressive until 5+hours after double decanting. Beautiful secondary and tertiary notes of cigar, cassis, leather and dark berries. Hold.

The palate is dominated by large amounts of ripe black fruits, dense, rich and deep! There is so much to offer, personally, I think, in the early drinking window! Classy and a serious one!

Pronounced nose intensity with leather, flora, spices, black currant. Medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin. Tannin is integrated. Decanted 3 hours. Still can improve with age.

Still youthful and has lost its puppy fat. Begin to trim down to be an athlete of some power but more suited to middle distance than a sprint.
Precise, direct communication and complex. The wine knows what it is and it will tell you everything you need to know. Delicious, thoughtful and reflective, all at the same time. Refer to other reviewers for tasting profile. Neal Martin’s note from Vinous sums the wine up very well. Need 3 hours decant at a minimum.
Drink now (kind of) to 2040+.

200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): Encore wine at the end. Non blind, an addition for the lamb rack main dish. Elegant, precise, restraint and very aromatic claret, lighter than the Grand Vin from a day before (no surprise) and really an excellent food wine today. 95+

A classic, elegant Pauillac, the 2000 Les Forts is drinking wonderfully right now. Dark black fruit, floral, and woody barrel notes are still hanging on, while spice, earth, and cigar box are starting to emerge. Fresh acids and a hint of mint keep those flavors—and the ample tannins—feeling balanced and lively all the way through to the long finish, which is mercifully unmarred by the higher alcohol levels of more recent vintages. Give these bottles sufficient air: after a 90 minute decant, the last sips were the best. Or give them time. They have the goods to continue improving for another 5-10+ years and will likely keep through 2040.

Drinking very well now with the density of the 2000 vintage quite apparent. There are lovely flavors of dark earth and Latour nuttiness with good acidity and a fine, complex finish with notes of tobacco and graphite minerals.

Medium garnet in colour. Red cherry, red date, meaty, smoke, violet, soy sauce, sweet tobacco, licorice. Pronounced flavour intensity, medium plus to long finish. Very charming and really complex and well balanced. Not fruit forward but still hide at the back and surge from mid palate. The finish is lingering and evolving. A true enjoyment!

A celebration of a 64th, wines that will still be great on my 64th
Latour is not a favorite of mine, but this Les Forts is a knockout. It has that intense, earthy, iron edge you expect, but it has fruit also, tannins are chewy, and has a long finish. As primary as this wine is now, I can't imagine how tight the 2000 Latour must be! The 2000 vintage continues to reward those who cellar.
Aging 2035 at least

Had this in an early stage. Dark w/ lots of black licorice. Completely different wine tonight. This is what I look for by waiting on wine.
The nose shows floral, ripe, bright, slightly candied fruits of; dark cherries, blackberries, black raspberries, black plums, poached to baked strawberries, raspberries, powdery lead pencil, dark, rich forest floor w/ leaves, dark & mid spices, black licorice, mixed berry cola, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanillin, soft leather, fresh tobacco, dry, crushed limestone, river stone, dark, red, blue florals framed in violets.
The mouthfeel is gorgeous. The palate shows its relationship w/ its big brother. The length & balance are excellent. Integration is finally showing like a non stubborn 2000 or one that is finally ready. Floral, ripe, bright, slightly candied fruits of; dark cherries, blackberries, black raspberries, black plums, poached to baked strawberries, raspberries, powdery lead pencil, dark, rich forest floor w/ leaves, dark & mid spices, black licorice, mixed berry cola for days, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanillin, soft leather, fresh tobacco, dry, crushed limestone, moist grey clay, river stone, dark, red, blue florals soaked in violets. The acidity is full warm spring day. The well knitted & balanced finish stuns. Starts fruit forward, cola that fall onto earthy perfection.
Elegant, complex wine candy w/ a 3 1/2 hour decant.
Cheers to the King of steak - Allen Brothers & the King of Cabernet - Latour.

2/6. It has been 15 months since our first bottle from this case and it was high time to try another one. I had a small amount of trepidation based on some of the recent tasting notes posted here but I needn't have worried and in fact this bottle was at least an equal to the first.
The colour continues to be fresh with no signs of bricking. On opening the nose is powerful with characteristic graphite, cassis and tobacco and over time some leather and meaty aromas emerged that we didn't see so much last time. On the palate this is a concentrated yet classic Pauillac with flavours of blackcurrant, plum and leather. Medium finish.
Decanted an hour before lunch and drunk with roast chicken. We loved drinking this and reckon it has plenty more to give over the next decade.

The previous reviewer, ROGERSHKG, really nailed this. The wine is nice, very nice in fact. It is perfectly made, has all the correct Bordeaux characteristics; the dark cherry fruit, graphite, cedar, sweet tobacco, smooth tannins. I could probably nail this as a quality L Bank Bordeaux with my eyes closed, nose plugged, and tongue covered in Novocain. It is prototypical, ideal, hits every high point that it should. The wine goes down smooth, supple, all rough edges sanded down, and is completely inoffensive. Age has treated it nicely.
The wine is, in a certain way, the perfect Bordeaux. But it does not excite. It feels engineered and decided upon by consensus; conceived in a board room to fulfill the desires of the average Bordeaux drinker. It reminds me of an episode of the radio show This American Life where a research group creates the "perfect" American art piece, which turns out to be a landscape painting of a lake with 2 deer and George Washington that looks like it was done by Norman Rockwell; https://www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-komar-melamid-americans-painting-thought-wanted The painting is absurdly fascinating, appealing in an abstractly idealistic way, but ultimately cold and unemotional. This wine, somehow, is an, admittedly tasty, version of that painting. I guess what do I expect from the second wine of a gigantic Bordeaux powerhouse?
Perfectly good bottle. Not exciting though. Colour was good. Nose reasonably strong when decanting., bit subdued later. On the palate good fruit still with black cherries. Taste medium length

Overbearing tannins and acidity are disjointed from the dark fruits. Still, while it failed to open with six hours of air it did give us a glimpse of terrific potential. Wait five years for the next bottle.

Dark purple, classic Paulliac, well aged, in a perfect drinking window. Nose of plums, blackberries, currants, barnyard, full of graphite and leather with some tobacco and licorice. Palate is medium body, black fruits, balanced acidity and soft developed tannins. Long finish. Excellent Les Forts, sadly my last bottle!!

90-92: the nose was quite muted compared to the Margaux preceding it, with some graphite. The palate was rich, dense, full of graphite. The tannins were still fairly noticeable, the finish was longer than the Pavilion. It lacks the elegance and layers of the Margaux. I've never been a big fan of Latour, and it clearly finished third in this mini 2000 side by side.
This wine has been cellar kept.

The colour is still very fresh with no signs of bricking. On opening the nose immediately hits you with characteristic graphite, cassis and tobacco. On the palate this is classic Pauillac at its best with blackcurrant, plum and leather coming to the fore. The tannins are smooth, there is good acidity and the finish is medium but lingers. Decanted for two hours and drunk over the next four hours both by itself and with roast beef. This is an excellent wine that is just getting into its stride and will offer lots more in the years to come.

750 ml, decanted 3 hours. Still very dark color with no bricking. Great nose with aromas of dark fruit, earth, leather and tobacco. Great left bank taste with full expression of dark fruit, moderate secondary flavors of leather, tobacco, dried leaves. Well balanced with good acidity and moderate tannins. Still a little tight on the finish which is 45 sec, and a little tart. The finish became longer, smoother and the secondary flavors started to sing as we finished the bottle at the 5 hour mark. Still young. In a great place right now but I expect it will improve over the next 5 years. May exceed 95pts at its peak.

Excellent second wine from my favorite producer. Dark crimson color, hardly any signs of aging. On the nose the cassis jumps out with hints of raspberries, dusty earth and crushed rocks. Powerful wine on the palate, a bit closed but that’s probably because we never aerated the wine for more than an hour in the decanter which is a pity. Lots of leather and cassis, earth and graphite, spicy finish with excellent minerality, some iron, and a long tannic finish. Wow this wine is a baby by any standard. Probably in need of a decade!

Drank over an afternoon, deep ruby in color, nose has good structure, cassis, cedar, tobacco and cedar. Good concentration on palate, ample acidity with fruit, tannin resolving but still dominated by oak. Had a few 1990 vintage which is heaf and shoulder above this in every aspect. This need more time.

While this may be the famed La Tour's 2nd label, this is a classic Puillac wine. Very dark ruby color, scents of tobacco, mushroom, and green pepper. Very well balanced on the palate with flavors of rich tannin and black berry. A very nice wine, without question.

Christmas Lunch (Our House, Hong Kong): Decanted for 2.5 hours but would have benefitted from double that. Bright, jewelled near-transparent deep ruby. Nose is BAM!......cedar shingles, oak, great depth of black and red small-berried fruits, tar, black ashphelt....complex but quite tightly wound. Palate is great freshness, deep fruit - confit and compote - and lots of structure....still lots of tannin. Reasonable length and resonance but more will emerge with more ageing. A masculine, muscled and really well-made wine.

Delicious wine pairing nicely with filet. Nothing is over the top here, but very solid wine which can easily go for another 20 years. May actually improve once it takes on more secondary characteristics. Classic Pauillac with notes of tobacco, dark fruit and lead pencil, well made with a nice finish.

A solid & consistent effort that is drinking absolutely wonderful right now. Had to take a break from the mega mondo bottles ('82 Pichon and '96 Margaux) to enjoy this with our meal. This was a perfect compliment to prime tenderloin and strip steak. Incredible nose of creme de cassis, black cherry, licorice, cedar, and spice. The nose tells you that it is from Pauillac and the finish is lovely and pure. While it can still age for many more years, it is drinking great now. Why wait? Decanted for 1 hour and consumed over dinner. As a side note, I actually prefer the 2002 Les Forts better than the 2000, but both are great wines.

Château Latour vertical tasting (1937 to 2003) ((Wine Watch, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida)): Lacks the punch and concentration of a Latour, but this is a charmer that was among the better wines of the evening. Cassis, cedar, tobacco, barnyard, and dark chocolate. Silky tannins and a smooth mouthfeel. Good length on the finish, but a hint of bitterness noted. Truth be told, I prefer the 2001 Les Forts.

Cassis and earth and forest floor. Great acidity. Very nice with food. This is still a powerful wine but showing a great complexity.

Double decanted and consumed slowly with appropriate glassware. This bottle was concerning. Although the cork was sound, it had a noticeable funk when opened. It was set aside as the tasters had mixed views on it. Whatever was going on dissipated the next day and it was fine. However, it is on the "watch list".

I bought a wide variety of 2000 Bordeaux en premiere during the "wine of the century" hysteria. My first exposure to several yielded wines that were closed beyond any I have encountered. Every few years I would open another and have a similar result: no nose whatsoever, fruit under-developed. I was pleasantly surprised to find a very aromatic nose immediately after uncorking. I decanted and drank over 2 days.
Medium to dark garnet in color. Nose of crushed ripe berries (a nose!), tobacco, with eucalyptus and mint in the background. Lots of layers, all in harmony. The palate yields ripe red fruit initially, followed by orange bitters and sour cherries. Astringent start to finish. A little thin. Bordeaux tends to sweeten with age and this one needs a few more years for the palate to catch up with the nose. I'll try again in 2017.

A really superb second wine for my money. Almost as good as Pichon Baron 2000. Decanted, aerated for an hour and a half and drank over another hour. Too young but oh what a beauty this baby will be in 5-10 years. Powerful wine with its older sibling pedigree evident, deep crimson color, nose slightly dusty but opens up after an hour in decanter to cassis, graphite, pencil lead, crushed rocks, old leather. Glycerin like entry on the palate, rich cassis mid palate, great acidity and backbone, very well structured but requires a few more years to develop more complexity. Excellent balance, a fine finish with tannins very present though super refined. Can't wait to taste the Grand Vin in 20years!

Bad cork. Broke at mid-point. Had to decant through strainer to get clean wine. And the wine was super. HDH auction tasting at Tru; 6/27/2014-6/28/2014 (Chicago, IL): A very lovely nose that just screams Bordeaux. This has got to be the archetype. Stems, cassis, leather, graphite, what more could you ask for? The palate has a bit of everything and the tannic structure has already become a bit more yielding. This is surprisingly accessible now, and certainly won't be getting worse anytime soon.

Baby Latour. Did not decant, opened for 60 min prior to serving. Tannins still strong and present. Black Fruit is bold and bright. Still very concentrated. Tasted exactly like it should. From The Sampler tasting machines. Concentrated, dark, fruit, rich and full bodied. Would definitely benefit from some decanting at this stage. Quite a lot of blackcurrant on the nose, light spicy feel to it too. Very primary at this stage. On the palate is starting to round and the tannins have lost their harsh feel of youth. Nicol mentioned a dusty feel to it. really well made but not sure if its worth the price. 92 from us.

Decanted 2 hrs. A dark colored wine for sure, with immediate scents of black currant and oak spice that left impression of pedigree and class. It seems that at a decade old, the tannins have really merged well within the overall profile of the wine, creating a smooth and easy to drink experience. Plenty of typical Paulliac cassis, graphite, and piquant touch of acidity on the back end added a nice lift on the medium length finish. At once complex but effortless to drink. Not on my nickel, so no concerns about value, though I would never pay the current (or release) price.

WS Vancouver Offline (Vancouver): Pitch black color on the glass, purple rim, licorice, red cherry on the palate with some spices. I hardly ever give scores in the 90's as I am a harsh judge. This was basically the best wine I have tasted this year (and probably ever!). Wonderful classic nose with beautiful colour and vibrancy. Lush palate with real depth of flavour with supreme balance of savoury and sweet. Finish was long and satisfying...This was a better drink for me than the 1990 Grand Vin which I also tried. Expensive at nearly £150 but I'd consider buying on this showing.

Velvety smooth, medium-fruit with a nose of leather, earth, flowers and wet stone. Delicious and drinking nicely - wish I had a few more bottles to sit on for another three or four years. If you are holding multiple, here is my two cents: pop one now - and approach verrrrryy slowly so you can appreciate the opening of this beauty. Sit on the others for three, five and/or seven years. This thing is built for finesse over the long distance. Really special.

Rich ruby blends with dark purple, creating "The Color Rurple", a musical wine of texture. Full-bodied, fat and gobs of glycerin, this black fruit beauty is spicey, sexy and a hearty handful of rich mineral earth. Bought for $41.51 in July 2001. Ten more of Rurple. Who is your Daddy? I think I might have had a bad bottle, as I feel a bit odd giving it an 85 considering all the great scores, but I didn't think my bottle had much complexity at all, especially following the 96. Decanted for a couple of hours. The nose was really missing on it to me, which I was waiting for with great anticipation. A woody and leathery mouth with a dull finish. Had a Prime Rib and Pork Crown Roast main course and it didn't really hold up to it. Convinced its a bad bottle, will give it another shot should the opportunity present.

Decanted for about 12 hours and it was still surprisingly reticent. Pretty ruby garnet color with no signs of aging. The nose on this wine is stunning and jumped from the bottle when I pulled the cork. Pronounced graphite, cassis, white flowers, spice, and minerals. On the palate the wine is still tightly wound but has considerable concentration and imho is only giving hints of the considerble fruit and power still to come. Drinkable now but I would not touch another for at least 3 more years.....and I tend to drink mine quite young. Easily outpaced by the 99 monbousquest which was drinking really well.

Chateau Latour Vertical with Robert Parker and Latour's Frederic Engerer: Black, with cherry red at the edges; very nice blackberry and mocha nose, with hints of olive; tight, with sweet tannins underlying a big berry mid-palate; long, rather hot finish (really opened up after an hour in the glass, and was still tasty after two hours)

Chateau Latour vertical (K&L Wines; moderated by Robert Parker) (San Francisco, CA): 2000 Les Forts de Latour This wine only included 3% of press wine given the quality of the vintage’s fruit. Sweet nose of black currant, crème de cassis, vanilla, pain grille. Full bodied and tight, with noticeable but very ripe tannins. Long spicy finish with a hint of licorice. Great wine. 92+ points.

Tasted at the Vintage Wines, Ltd. wine bar. Bright disc. Opaque purple robe with purple rim. Clean nose, showing very intense coffee, chocolate, black cherry and cassis aromas. Full-bodied on the palate, with massive sweet tannins, medium acidity and similar flavors as for the nose. The finish seems to linger forever. This is a beauty. Amazing for a "second" wine, it says a lot about the vintage.

Very charming and really complex and well balanced. Not fruit forward but still hide at the back and surge from mid palate. The finish is lingering and evolving. A true enjoyment!

90-92: the nose was quite muted compared to the Margaux preceding it, with some graphite. The palate was rich, dense, full of graphite. The tannins were still fairly noticeable, the finish was longer than the Pavilion. It lacks the elegance and layers of the Margaux. I've never been a big fan of Latour, and it clearly finished third in this mini 2000 side by side.

Hmmmm...

Deep, deep aromas while resting in the decanter. Good color, great texture and nice finish. Still quite young.

Decanted an hour before consumption. Color was brick red with slight brownish tinge on the rim. Very strong blackcurrant and rustic smells. On the palate, there is a very strong blackcurrant flavors. Tannins still very present. Delicate wine and very well structured. Still extremely young and hardly any secondary flavors yet. Not fully ready to be consumed yet.

A great wine. Lacking in depth relative to 1982 and 1996. The 2000 Pavillon Rouge Margaux tasted at sime time was better wine.

Chateau Latour vertical with Commercial Director Jean Garandeau (Grand Hotel Dolder, Zurich): At Arvi Chateau Latour tasting, Grand Hotel Dolder. Medium purple. Discrete nose of black current and forest floor. Medium body with crisp acidity and well integrated tannins. Very classic but not overly complex at this moment. May be this also needs another 3 years waiting time.

This is tremendous and just how I remember it. The bouquet explodes from the bottle upon opening. Really showing great fruit with silky smooth finish. A wonderful second wine that is really integrated well and drinking like a star.

Baby Latour. Did not decant, opened for 60 min prior to serving. Tannins still strong and present. Black Fruit is bold and bright. Still very concentrated. Tasted exactly like it should. Virtually no secondary flavors yet. Drinking nicely now, will be better with each passing year for the next 10. This is a powerful wine, even if it is a 2nd label. Clearly blossomed with time in the glass. Showed very well.

Dusty, cassis, coffee grounds on the nose. On the palate, this is delicious. Lots of tannins. Tight layering just starting to unwind. Complex. Long finish. Hold for a few more years.

WS Vancouver Offline (Vancouver): Pitch black color on the glass, purple rim, licorice, red cherry on the palate with some spices. It can be summarized as a black core of bitterness, density and some strong pauillac grip on the mid palate. This is a baby that needs more time to integrate, currently awkward; but not sure if it will ever come together.

WS Offline (Vancouver, BC): Decanted for 1.5 hours. Very sweet on the nose, with strong dark fruit, red licorice, and cherry notes coming through. A bit of anise on the palette, showing ripe dark berries, prunes, and cherry jam. A dark, dense wine, bit still a bit unresolved. Not as tannic as I expected. A nice touch of lavender on the finish. Very good

This is a dark purple wine with a tremendous nose of wild flowers and blackberries. The palate is refined and elegant. Certainly an outstanding wine but not showing the tremendous fruit that it had as an infant. Can't really say this is a vin de garde but certainly enjoyable now and in the future.

A solid, elegant Bordeaux. Dark purple to black color. Nose features spicy plum, chalk, moldy forest floor, and black currants. Palate is mildly astringent, but holds well with nice cassis, white flowers, and stony mineral. Good overall balance.

Tasted blind. Medium density in the ruby color, not even hinting at being 10 years old. A bit of VA on the nose, although not overpowering. Black cherry and berry notes, with lots of exotic spice. Bright on the palate showing good acidity. Would have score much higher if I could get past the VA on the nose.

We all know, and we will "MaKe Room for Daddy" in 2013. A case of that daddy aging gracefully in the corner.

Amazing ruby colour, Les Forts is reticent just poured in the glass, after breathing,it boasts great definition and purity, awesome nose of cherry
currant, roasted herbs, leather, very elegant, with ripe tannins it improve in the glass.Silky entry, great balance,at this stage is tight, with lively acidity.
The final lacks just little more persistance to have a better score, but there's great stuff here, really well made in this glorious vintage.
With correct cellaring Les Forts 2000 will last for long time(20years and more).

Very young, closed nose. Iron Tannins. Clearly superior to the 2002, and younger. Currants, meat, some berries, and something like apple pie- or is it yellow flowers? (There's one for the naysayers)! The best second I've sampled to date. Strong wine, great structure. Needs time.
