Served in a trio with '90 and '01, and in spite of the the 18 year age gap remarkably youthful and very close to the '01 in freshness and elegance. Mild amber with notes of apricot, lemon, honey and roasted cashews. Outstanding.

Half bottle. Opened for early 40th bday along with Ch Margaux.
Deep gold/light amber in color. On the nose: Not a hint of mustiness. Smells incredibly fresh. Deep honey, dried apricots, white flowers, overripe peaches, a bit of pie crust. In the mouth: the first impression of acidity before the sweetness. So lively and zing-y! The sweetness comes right afterwards and coats the palate with flavors of lemon drops, sweetened chamomile tea, white and yellow flowers, honeysuckle, juicy yellow peaches. Smooth and velvety on the long finish.
This is a beautiful Sauternes that was a wonderful accompaniment to an array of savory appetizers. It’s not the most complex Sauternes I’ve ever had, but it’s distinguishing feature to me is how alive and fresh it is. Maybe that’s funny to say for a 40 yr old wine, but this is tastes like it is just starting to barely pick up the caramelly nutty aromas/flavors of age. This will last a long long time.

Still going strong at 40. Needed to use the Durand as the cork was slightly pushed in to the capsule. The end of the cork ended up breaking off anyway. Beautiful apricot nose and youthful taste. I’m not sure how long these will last but I plan to keep drinking my remaining 5 bottles sooner than later. Cheers
