Initially intensely bretty even evoking the thought it could be flawed. But with a sufficient decant it blows off and unfurls to reveal dark fruit, heavy sous bois, dried violets and minerals. There is good complexity and layers but it’s a bit out of balance and doesn’t have the concentration and Grand Cru intensity you want both from the vineyard and from the vintage. It seems to be aging rather quickly, and drank older than it should, but still enjoyable.

This wine became quite expressive and vibrant after aerating it in the bottle for 3 hours and in the glass for an additional hour. There were lots of fresh and stewed fruits with noticeable yet pleasant tannins in the medium long finish.

Subtle oak spice, sweet cherry and some stems. Somewhat monolithic palate showing round, sweet and balanced flavors. Its 2009 ripe but more austere than the Suchots that preceded it. Very fine grained tannins herald a medium weight finish. Well done and should be a medium term ager.

Excellent now and better in 5 more years. Fruit is voluptuous for a burg but not atypical for Clos vougeiot.
