Had at Anhelo before the Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) standup comedy event in Phoenix. This wine was in the flight with the NSG de l’Arlot & Vice Versa Spinning Plates. The diversity of the three wines in & of itself was fabulous to experience not to mention when paired with the dry aged prime beef Wellington which was an absolute knockout! This wine has decades but already fantastic!

Early Mar 2024, Rheingau Gourmet Festival, rarity diner “25 vintages of Chateau Montrose”: according to the sommelier double decanted for up to 3 hours; deep rubin red color; opulent bouquet of cherries, red and dark berries plus hints of herbs; like dark cherry juice in the mouth; smooth aristocratic texture.
Together with the 2009 vintage best wine of flight I. Surprisingly open and approachable.
An elegant wine. Decanted probably 30 minutes before drinking, had almost a spice initially but that wore off. Tobacco and black fruit. I was impressed. Enjoyed with My dad and friends with a delicious ribeye, mushrooms and frites.

Vinous Icons of Bordeaux with Neal Martin (Legacy Records, New York City): Huge tannic profile. This is a brutish big wine even after 14 years. Dark fruit, black earth, tobacco and eucalyptus. Requires lots of patience but I suspect will ultimately be pretty spectacular.

A bit closed, dense dark packed and unyielding tonight despite long decant. I’ll try again in 3 years.
