Decent fruit but lacking body and finish.... Medium acidity.... Showed some classic "dirty cherry cowboy" sensations but also lacking finesse.... Challenging year in '86

Cork was dry and crumbled to pieces when opening. Poured through a mesh into a decanter to clean up the cork. Lots of sediment. This wine has seen better days, but was still very, very interesting. I'm not going to score, as the bottle may not have been stored ideally. No fruit left, all brick. But such a strong expression of terroir came through. Wet earth, sour, mushrooms, hay, peppers and spices. Interesting, but not as enjoyable as I hoped.
It seems that S.L.V. generally drinks best in the 10 - 15 year range given my recent experience. If I were scoring: 85. But I don't want to make any proclamations as this may have been an off bottle.

Lance's Birthday (Bowling Green, OH): Decanted for sediment. Mushroom red fruit nose. Crazy smooth - pure silk texture. Light tannins, medium acid and body. Nice age, still lots of primary fruit, but probably at or slightly past peak. Elegant. Pepper. This has that distinctive thing I get from 20+ California cabs that I've never been able to describe.

Berserkerfest very brief retrospective notes (PDH NYC): Tasted only a sip and among may wines in a very short period of time, but this came across as youthful, very big, but quite good.

Rock and graphite on nose. (No note kept on palate but a lot of people commented on liking this over the course of the night). Probably 92-93ish.
