Clear but inky reddish purple in color with a classical Bordeaux nose featuring red and purple fruits, young leather, tobacco, fresh aromatic cedary wood, forest herbs and an earthy graphite profile. The palate is on the slightly towards the upper-end of the medium-bodied spectrum, very well-balanced and precise without any of its vital components out of place, it’s also very soft yet supple with good weight and structure. The flavor components include blue and red fruits like cassis, wild blueberries, dark cherries framed with leather, wild game (began to emerge after 2 hours of air), cedar, a little menthol and light tobacco, pencil lead, wet loam with just enough savory acidity and silky fine grain tannins to make this very, very solid yet exceedingly well-priced Bordeaux red. At 12 years, this old world-styled Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel from Moulis-en-Medoc is well within its prime drinking window now but should continue give drinking pleasure for at least the short-term of 3 - 6 years. This is better than the 2011 version of the wine I tasted several years ago.

Fully mature now with gentle notes of blood starting to make its appearance amid the graphite and remaining fruit. If you miss this in the next 2 years, I think you will need to wait a long time before it comes back around in a more savory way. Restrained and sturdy, this is a great M/T/W wine. DRINK

Fifth of five bought at retail. This one was pretty much ready to go from PnP, but an hour in the decanter would have helped.
Dark roasted plums, cassis, leather, and a little licorice and greenery on the nose and the well-concentrated, velvety palate. This showed better closer to room temp than cellar temperature even though the acidity was a little too low. The acidity is all that held it back from a higher score. This is a nice little wine to have in your back pocket. 13% ABV (good/**/15.5/88)

Really interesting aroma - dark cherry, acetone, hint of mint and cedar. Dry mouth feel and quite tight. Spice finish but not overly harsh. Thin mouth feel, no oak or richness. Good but needs food I think to round out

Paired very nicely with a pot roast on a cold Texas evening. Surprising value.
