Like so many of the ‘01’s, this bottle is but an echo of the best vintages. Still the wine is in balance with tannins slightly on the heavy side. Decanted for two hours and, upon opening, there was decent fruit on the nose but little on the palate. After roughly 30 mins, the fruity nose died-down (vanished?) and was replaced by pepper, celery and earth.

Winefool Intro/Retro (Chez Winefool): Served blind. Medium garnet. The nose here is also closed-in, but with time it sneakily starts to give lots of subtle spice. On the palate, it's similar to the Beze -- very hard and mouth clenchingly tannic. Give this a decade or two. Would guess there is plenty of upside with time. My #8, Groups #5.

Just not good. Completely dead with no fruit. Tasted like drinking dirt. Have one bottle of this left out of my 2 OWc’s of mix Grand Crus.

Chicago Wine Flock...Winefool Serving Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Mostly Burgundy (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind in what turned out to be Faiveley 2001 flight. Opened 3-4 hours in advance, with a quick double decant. Mostly black fruit, some faint red fruit hints. Big and powerful, clearly showing Grand Cru density, but I thought if from Gevrey. Another of tonight's Faiveleys that needs plenty more cellar time.

Good, but a bit hard still. Showed nice hard red fruit flavors with nicely framed wood spice. Would suggest giving this more time.
