Depth and flavour with great savoury notes all the way to the end. Was intrigued that this had a drink by 2013 date on it and now agree with other comments that this still has good life in it. Decanted and tried after 40mins, smiled and then enjoyed everything that came next.

Really liked this. We almost drank it a few months ago and was excited to see it make a come back. It was drinking very well. More muted and yet powerful and good secondary as well as the more black fruits. Made me think I should keep an eye out for the older ones of these although you never see them.

Quite good, but needed all of three hours to harmonize. The nose, at first, was all red fruits. But, after only a few minutes, the fruits withdrew, leaving a very loamy, soil-driven nature that dominated the wine for the next 2 hours. In hour three, fruit and soil notes balanced - more on the nose than the palate, the palate was pretty great from start to finish. This is fully mature, but can hold here for a few more years given its remaining freshness. Cork, and fill in vg condition. A lovely surprise, and just 13,0% abv, too. Thank you, Dr. C. recommended

Dinner and Wine at Sun Wah (Sun Wah BBQ, Chicago, IL): I didn't get to this until much later in the dinner and wonder if I caught it too late as others really liked this. I found the wine tired across the board. The nose had tired black fruit and ash notes. The palate had plenty of mature black fruit and some other complex things going on -- but there just wasn't any freshness and life to the wine, leaving a dull and tired impression.

This had a really intriguing nose with classic syrah meatiness, red fruits, and as acyso noted, distinct feral tones. Without knowing better, the wine certainly would have made me think Rhone. The palate didn't quite live up to the nose's significant promise, and had a more tomato, very slightly stewy or over-the-hill note that detracted a bit. Overall though, a nice surprise.
