  • Developed aromas, with iodine, black olives, forest floor, bark and mushroom. Reminds as such of a Pessac wine. Hefty wine with great concentration and acidity.

  • The wine was medium to dark ruby in colour and threw some sediment. It had a dusty, slightly reserved nose and offered good, fresh red fruit, red cherry, leather, coffee, sous bois and complex spice notes on the palate, with lively acidity and superb length. The savoury, medium-bodied wine was dense, balanced and integrated and possesses enough structure and substance for another 10+ years. Drink or hold.

  • Tasted in a vertical of all the released vintages of Redoma from 1991 until 2009. A blend of Tinta Amarela, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Francesa. Aged partly in older barrels and partly in French barriques. 13,5% alcohol.

Moderately translucent black cherry color with a wide clear rim and moderately developed mahogany core. Complex and quite developed nose with rather tertiary aromas of expresso, some succulent dark plums, a little bit of dried cherries, a hint of sweet VA and a touch of savory wood spice. The wine is smooth, full-bodied and developed on the palate with mature flavors of mocha, some wizened cherries, a little bit of pruney fruit, light notes of sous-bois, a hint of savory oak spice and a touch of leather. The wine is still pretty structured for its age with moderately high acidity and still surprisingly ample, angular and grippy tannins. The aged character makes the wine appear smooth and silky, but the acidity and tannins lend some very robust and muscular sense to the wine. The finish is somewhat warm and moderately bitter with long, tertiary flavors of wizened plums, sour cherry bitterness, some raisiny fruit, a little bit of savory woody character, a hint of liquorice and a touch of old, cracking leather.

A very stylish, harmonious and beautifully developed vintage of Redoma reminiscent of a classic, aged Bordeaux. The style here is wonderfully savory, somewhat taut and dead-serious with all the possible oak characteristics the wine might've shown when it was young wonderfully integrated with the fruit. Stylistically the wine feels like it has reached its apogee: it isn't going downhill yet, but it is hard to see much room for further development, save for softening tannins. Overall very stylish and enjoyable an effort, drink now or soon. Decanting is recommended, as there was quite a bit of deposit in the bottle.
