  • The Douro Valley is the home of port, but also a fantastic red wine growing region. Generally vertical strata with little organic matter in the soil. Summers are extremely hot. Tinta Amarela is previously unknown to me. This example is now 20 years old.

  • This was a much better showing than my other bottle in 2011.

Nineteen years old and going strong. A nose of iron, rust, cranberry and an intriguing hint of sage. Dark, brooding, cocoa, cranberry, fantastic acid, mineral, and iron. I find this wine impressive, surprisingly long-lived, yet lacking just a bit in overall complexity and interest.

These dry Douro reds are fascinating, standard Port varieties, loads of tannins, loads of acid, fresh, powerful and sometimes edgy. I was on a Zoom tasting with friends tonight debating the merits of these. I guess at come level it comes down to personal preference. This was a very enjoyable wine, proper, interesting, well aged, yet not anywhere near as interesting as nice Hermitage or Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It just lacks complexity and fireworks.

  • Tung sødmefull moden frukt . Litt ubalansert avslutning. Som portvin uten alkoholstikk, kanskje over toppen. Dagen derpå: Nei apsolut ikke, sødme, blåbær,

  • Tasted in a vertical of all the released vintages of Redoma from 1991 until 2009. A blend of mostly Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela and Tinto Cão along with a few dozen other varieties. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 18 months in 228-liter French oak pièces (50% new). 14% alcohol, 6,6 g/l acidity, pH 3,52, free SO2 at the time of bottling 30 mg/l. Total production 17,000 bottles.

Moderately translucent dark cherry red color with developed mahoagany hue. At first the nose exhibited some dark-toned fruit tones, a little bit of herbal minty character and hints of apple core, but with air an earthy and slightly cardboardy note of TCA creeps in. The wine feels ripe, very full-bodied and quite tannic on the palate with medium acidity and dull, mouldy flavors of TCA.

    Corked.

  • Quite dark coloured. A spicy nose with first red fruits, but slowly turning into for dark fruits with aeration. Medium plus to full on the palate with soft tannins and medium plus acidity. Finish is long with still some tannins left on the palate. Good for drinking now but can age further.
