  • Toujours aussi bon. Les tannins sont bien fondus et la finale demeure longue. Prêt à boire par contre, il n'y aura rien à gagner à laisser vieillir davantage.

  • Enjoyable, but just beginning to loose its fruit.

  • Tasted in a vertical of all the released vintages of Redoma from 1991 until 2009. A blend of mostly Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela and Tinto Cão along with a few dozen other varieties. Fermented and macerated in stone lagares and stainless steel vats, aged for 20 months in 228-liter French oak pièces. 13,5% alcohol, 5,72 g/l acidity, pH 3,19, free SO2 at the time of bottling 28 mg/l. Total production 13,850 bottles.

Almost completely opaque and somewhat developed black cherry appearance with moderately mature mahogany hue, especially towards the rim. The nose feels ripe, rather sweet and quite modern with rich aromas of juicy boysenberries, sweet oak spice, some liquorice, a little bit of alcohol, light oaky notes of mocha and milk chocolate, a hint of vibrant primary fruit and a raisiny whiff of dried dark fruits. The wine is very full-bodied, dense and quite extracted with very intense fruit flavors of juicy blackberries, boysenberries and dark plums along with some crunchy dark berries, a little bit of meaty character, some woody oak hints and a sanguine hint of iron. The wine feels quite muscular and very tightly-knit with its fresh streak of quite high acidity and powerful, grippy tannins. The finish is quite tannic and frippy with quite bright and fruit-forward flavors ranging from savory to sweet, such as tart dark plums, sour cherry bitterness, some tart cranberries, a little bit of succulent black cherries, a gamey hint of blood and a touch of spicy, woody oak.

Overall this vintage came across as much sweeter and more fruit-forward than most of the vintages of Redoma we tasted, making it come across as almost a crowdpleaser. However, with its stern structure and still very unresolved wall of tannins the wine also came across as dead-serious and much more impressive than it initially led to believe. Overall the wine is a bit more open and straight-to-the-point instead of complex and layered, but as it is also so very youthful for a wine almost 10 years old, it is easy to guess this wine will gain a lot more complexity in the future. For now the wine is somewhat approachable, due to its very attractive, plush fruit department, but still it is obviously in need of being paired with something hearty enough for the tannins to bite on. However, I wouldn't touch the wine for at least a decade - there's still so much unrealized potential here. Good stuff, just let it sleep.

  • seemed slightly more forthcoming than my last notes...still has rich soy, plum, and light spice. Overall feel is dense and powerful.

  • Dark violet colour, violets and sweet cherries on nose. Very silky smooth, bright red fruits, good length. Lacks complexity and depth. Attractive.
