  • Decanted with just a trace of fine sediment. Wood and rose petal on the nose. Round and balanced in the mouth. Fading tannins and a faint hint of alcohol on the finish. Soft in the mouth.

Drinking beautifully at the moment. I've been accused on Cellar Tracker of drinking these wines prematurely but I'll stick to my gut and say there is not much point in waiting any longer to open a bottle of the 20210. Looking at my $16 per bottle price from the Rare Wine Company, I am feeling like a shrewd buyer as I fill my glass again. This won't last long in the decanter.

  • Perfume, liquorice and flowers on the nose. Really nice! Quite intense on the palate with prominent tannins and high acidity, but nevertheless this is both smooth and balanced. Red berries, salt liquorice, gravel and some sweet liquorice. Drinking very nicely right now but may still improve.

  • Clear bright light red. Tight nose, leather, earth tobacco and red fruit. Intensely dry earthy cherry and leather flavours and extremely tannic finish.

  • Agree with David Cooper’s recent notes, although the tannins seemed softer to me.

  • Ive had a multitude of Vallana Spannas going back to mid 70s vintages. Theyve all been very long lived and this one is no exception. Decanted for two hours and in the glass for another 30 minutes, it was just opening up. On the positive side, it was well worth the wait. Pure Nebbiolo tastes with a tannic backbone. This medium bodied wine was very elegant and complex, with at least 5 to 7 years left (if not more) before it begins to decline.
