The cork crumbled when I tried to open, so had to decant. This is a very pale red wine, one that looks rusty at various points. The nose is terrific, carrying notes of leaf, smoke, cherry, earth, and slight spice. In the mouth, this is a higher acid wine but one overlaid with a nice caress and smoothness. The finish is crisp with elements of spice and flowers. Overall, this is a wine of distinction. It is delicious right now. 93 points.

I remember a recent thread suggesting that it might be a good time to check in on the '95s, I just don't recall where (that information is walled off for some inexplicable reason). I haven't tried a '95 in a few years (last was a Jadot CSJ drinking well with some air), so I pulled the Arnoux. Although most of the cork crumbled I don't believe that the wine suffered any undue exposure. Color was a cloudy black cherry with a brownish undertone. I gave it the small pour/air in bottle treatment for two hours before dinner. At no time through the evening was the nose very forthcoming, mostly red fruits and a hint of funk. In the glass the wine was spicy, tart and dark-fruited with a bit of undergrowth/mushroomy accents. I would have liked more acidity, but it is hard to complain about the overall texture which was pleasantly smooth and elegant. Tannins slightly drying on the finish. Enjoyable--although I liked the '98 bottling more--and Dawn was quite taken with the texture.
