Back at Berns (Tampa): The nose jumped from the glass with intense dark fruit and smoke, smoke, smoke. Earth and mushrooms on the palate. Wonderful balance and tremendous harmony. More sweet dark fruit and weedy tobacco came out with time and I am amazed at just how alive this wine still is. We decanted and drank over 3 hours and it kept improving.

La Mission Haut-Brion Vertical (Bentley Hotel, London): Burnt sugar and molasses, herbal, slightly whiffy (not brett). Less balance and poise than the 1945, great fresh fruit, still lively. Got a little quirky with time and didn't last as long in the glass, but a treat.

La Mission Haut Brion; 3/9/2012-3/10/2012 (Burg Staufeneck): High shoulder. Light sweet nose. On the palate herbs, mushrooms, peppermint, elegant.

Linden's La Mission Haut Brion tasting (Bentley Hotel, London): Fully alive, a fair whack of tannin, but overall a lovely balance of acid, sweetness and grip, nicely lingering
