  • Mystery wine evening (@Private location): *** only for my memory, no detailed note or rating ***
    Glass: Spiegelau Definition Bordeaux
Tasted double blind. Green, herbaceous notes, very tart, dense and young. Needs quite some time to develop. Will drink my bottle in a decade.

  • Wild strawberry with high acidity mixed with earth tones giving the impression of drier currents or cranberries.

Lighter hue and lighter bodied than expected.

Needs at least 20-30 minutes to open up and let the balance showcase itself. At first it was more pure acid, let it breath a little

Very nice and light, more acidic fruit than other notes

  • During lunch at Trapet in Gevrey-Chambertin with Chevaliers friends: Fruit driven, some richness and roundness, background acidity, limited length.

  • Raspberry red in colour. The bouquet unfurling from the glass is unmistakeably wild strawberries which I was not quite expecting, with a little undergrowth. Medium bodied with very bright acids and tons of freshness. Whilst there is more weight and structure on the palate, it still seems considerably lighter than I was expecting for a Grand Cru but this may have something to do with the vintage, and I do not doubt that there is inner power. Incredibly pure and a little inexpressive, as if it is just showing a bit of ankle, with surely more to come. From Sydonios wine glass and drunk off the list in St. Emilion.

  • Absolutely glorious red-fruited nose, kaleidoscopic but mostly focused on strawberry, and which got more and more seductive as the evening wore on. Rather a contrast to the palate, which wasn't exactly closed-down but certainly seemed taut, structured, mineral and brooding, more impressive than delicious. I suspect that will unwind in 5-10 years, and wouldn't have opened this from my own cellar at age 9, but when you see a wine like this on a list for c. 50% of retail price you have to go for it, don't you...
