  • A nice wine that’s a few notches below the Corton drunk last night. Similar in style, rough and rugged. Black cherry and bramble fruit. Warm and a bit soapy. Medium bodied. Decent flavor penetration. A bit muddled rather than pure but enjoyable in an unrefined sort of way. Drinking well and should continue for a while. (91)

  • This is amazing. From a disputed vintage a wine of special beauty emerges: still deep ruby core although it is amber at the rim. But the nose! Violets, sweet cherry, bread, verging on an almost overripe plum at the back. Combines freshness and sweetness perfectly in a medium bodied attack, fine grained tannins with a nice grip (amazingly fine grained for a Pommard), fresh and saline on the mid palate while the aftertaste fans out to pick up the fruity tones from the nose. The oak has integrated nicely from the previous bottle. Violets and a mineral tone dominated the aftertaste. Maybe it has lost some fruit, but this is just a fantastic example of how well good Burgundy can age. Drink now.

  • 4/5, at Cabotte with FC and AW. Quietly aromatic, pure red fruit, spice, some soil, florals, medium bodied, harmonious, subtle sweetness at core, fersh acids, good length finish. Lovely, drinking well, no hurry.

  • Clos des Epeneaux survey (Chicago, IL): Very 2001, and very old school with its backwards tannins. Definitely drinks like what I would expect given everything on the label. I liked that this was probably in peak secondary form right now -- not much earthy/autumnal notes, but just mature, clean fruit. Great acidic cut (as expected from the vintage) with ample structure.

  • From memory. The last glass out of the previously coravined bottle. After 6+ hours of sitting in the glass, this shed its harsh tannins and revealed a soft fruit core that made the wait worth it.

(Comte Armand Pommard Clos des Epeneaux) 31 hl/ha with just a little less new oak. High-toned less forwardly ripe than the 2002, mixing mineral notes with the redder fruit. Lush, concentrated palate, tannins are similar to the '02 but perhaps a little less ripe though the fruit buffers beautifully. This will need more time than the 02. In Benjamin's opinion the 02 says more today about the vintage than the Clos, whereas the 01 is all about the Clos
