  • Tasted blind, this wine had a deep yellow / light gold center with clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose emanated lemon tart, apple, honey, white stone and some volatile acidity.

In the mouth, this wine was ripe with firm acidity and great length. A touch of toffee flavor evidenced that this bottle was on the downhill slope.

Unfortunately, while it was still fun to drink, this bottle appeared to be 5-10 years past its best. If you have any, open them ASAP and only give them a hour or two of air.

  • Chablis Fest (Shaw's Crab House - Chicago, IL): This had aged very nicely. Lots of cool citrus fruit, wet slate, melon, and lanolin. The aged personality of the wine shown through and delivered some of those Chenin Blanc type qualities like wet wool, vanilla, and melon. It had a nice acidity on the finish too...gave it some nice energy.

  • Tasted blind, this wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. the high- intensity nose showed citrus zest, white stone, creme brulee, and some honey. This was a 98 point nose.

In the mouth, the wine was classic with a refined texture but still showed nice richness. Despite its age it showed crisp acidity and excellent length.

Interestingly, this bottle turned out to be from the same batch as the last bottle. It was purchased on release and held in top quality cellar. Despite this this bottle was distinctly fresher than the last one.

The bottom line is, I believe it is time to drink this wine. This bottle was close to 96 points. Enjoy!

  • HDH Dinner (Les Nomades): Absolutely superb nose of brioche, hazelnuts, citrus, buttered popcorn and wet stone. Huge in the mouth. Wonderful creamy texture that coats the palate. After a few hours took on a butterscotch note. The finish lasted for minutes. Benchmark wine.

  • Tasted blind from a relatively pristine bottle, this wine had a light gold center and clear rims. The high- intensity nose offered up citrus, oranges, white stone, and some toffee. As with many great wines, the flavor profile shifted around in a kaleidoscopic way during its evolution in the glass.

In the mouth, this wine was surprisingly refined given the dramatic nose. It was more focused on fruit and there was almost no toffee. Interestingly, it needed 3+ hours of air for the acidity to firm up, which, prior to that time had seemed light and fully resolved.

A great wine that is getting late in its drinking window.
