A classic light style Barolo. Muted tar and roses. Opened nice shortly after poured but it never really blossomed over the next couple of hours. A very nice and yet ultimately a static wine. I’ve had a number of vintages of this this, Ceretto’s top wine, wine and this falls in the middle. The best by the way, are sublime, similar to Mascarello Monprivato. Near its peak I believe and should stay here for 5-10 years.

Medium reddish garnet in color with ever-so-slight bricking at the edges. Forward, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, raspberries & red currants with overtones of earthy/dusty, spices notes of cinnamon, floral notes of roses, anise, tar, leather, minerals, dried herbs, cocoa dust & hints of oak in the background. Medium-deep bodied with a good concentration of smooth textured & well balanced, complex, ripe fruit flavors of sweet cherries, tart cranberries & currants with herbs, minerals, spices, dusty, earthy & toasted oak. Lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting and airing and although it has the structure to continue with its development for a few more years if cellared properly.

This is at mid peak, with great balance of savory mushroom, black cherry, tar and minerals. There are fine tannins but a good kick of acidity on the finish. Best after an hour in the decanter.

Maybe not at peak but still very good. Paired well with my wife's Bolognese sauce with Rigatoni
