  • Direct the from the chateau, recorked in 2007. Deep crimson, fully resolved tannins, medium body. Lovely and round, with a hint of fruit and a savory mix of claret flavors. A perfect companion to grilled tri-tip.

  • Purchased at auction, the wine had reached the bottom of the neck/top of shoulder but I figured, what the heck. Under the capsule, a red residue (yes, it was seeping out over the years), and when I tried to open it, the slight pressure of the screw loosened the cork into the bottle. Just goes to show, despite my anxiety, the wine was fine. Decanted for 3h. Magnificent nose, lots of earthy aromatic notes, including a blast of green bell peppers. The wine has some mint and sour cherry, wood, and acid. Tannins are gone. In decline, yes, but luxuriantly so. A real pleasure, the oldest Bdx I've tried so far.

As the evening progressed, the fruit faded and the wine became more acidic, so the best experience was within 4h of opening the bottle. I have several other bottles from this auction lot with better ullage that I look forward to.

  • This bottle performed much better than the previous one, especially the palate and the finish; the nose, full of ripe berries and cherries, violets, and black truffles, all mixed together in a rather harmonious way; the palate, complex and juicy, layers and layers of berries, chocolate, bell peppers, mid spices, and some wet forest floors; the finish, very fruity and long, showing no sign of this 30+ age at all in this bottle; overall, 91-92 points.

  • This wine did not perform as old as one would had expected; rich aromas of black berries and cherries, lavenders, black truffles, and wet forest leaves in the nose; still lots of dark fruits on the palate, plus some licorice, vanilla, and whipped cream; black berries, bitter chocolate, tea leaves, and wood spices in the somewhat short finish; overall, still fun to drink at this stage; 88-89 points.
