Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 97.8 points

  • With a dark, radiating purple, black hue, the wine explodes from the glass with its bouquet of lilacs, violets, roses, white flowers, cinnamon, and clove perfume. The wine is pure silk in texture, blending its salty, minerality with sweetness in the black and red fruits. But here, it its the texture, length, and purity in the fruits that stand out. The elegant, sensuous finish moves from red to black to red, with a refreshing mint note that holds your focus for over 50 seconds. The wine blends 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. 14.4% ABV, 3.79 Ph. The harvest took place September 7 - October 5, making this one of the longer harvests at Palmer. Yields are a scant 22 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2027-2065. 97-99 Pts.

The vintage of the century!!!! Yes I know we have already told you this several times but this time it is the real truthful truth! Who are we kidding again? It was very hot but it was very cold, it was very dry but it rained a lot, the grapes are very ripe but with acidity...
And Darwin said that man and mammoth sperm were adapting to climate change, why not grapes? Primeur wines are all more beautiful than each other, it's true! But that is not enough to make an exceptional vintage. One dimension is missing, the lifespan of the wine. And frankly, let's be honest, who can foresee today, that such a climatically contrasting vintage will not be syrup or vinegar in 20 or 30 years when the 2016, 2018,19,20 will begin their peak?

Gross! (Verkostet "En Primeur" im April 2023 / CVBG / Château Palmer) #primeurs22 www.vvWine.ch

  • I do not seem to share the enormous enthusiasm of other people here.

Yes, this is absolutely a finely crafted wine. But for me, it lacks the tension and freshness that would put in in the upper 90's.

Herbs, graphite, a touch of vanilla even. Big, ripe tannins. Opulent style, rich, a lot of extraction, fleshy splendour.... But somewhat lacking in acidity.

  • En Primeur campaign for the 2022 vintage Day Three (Bordeaux): Blackcurrant, savoury and meaty elements, tiny reductiveness over plums, cedar present but not so dominant. Medium plus intensity acidity, blackcurrant , plenty of tight grape and wood tannins, fleshy, balance of fruit and tannins is near perfect. Absolutely lovely, harmonious. I think this is the best Palmer I've ever tasted (note - this should be qualified by the fact that I haven't had that much Palmer so my experiences are fairly limited)
