  • Pronounced nose intensity with notes of charr wood, cedar, toast, cooked black fruits, spices. Medium acidity and medium tannin. Still drinking well and it will not improve anymore. Drink up.

  • This showed beautifully out of Jeroboam with a gorgeous terroir-driven nose of smoky violet-tinged earth and graphite minerals. On the palate, it's quite mature and leaner-styled with firm acidity but also a lovely layered and savory texture with subdued black fruits and minerals. The finish is smooth and the tannins fully resolved with delicious notes of spices, graphite, leathers and wispy flowers. A revelation out of large format. At NYC Commanderie Dinner, L'Appart.

  • Lunch with four cellar orphans, all oldies. The Palmer initially showed well but faded badly in less than an hour. Still a nice old Bordeaux but near it's end.

  • Dark reddish garnet in color with clearing & slight amber at the edges. Full, forward & highly fragrant nose of mature & complex, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackcurrants & cassis, with classic overtones of cigar box notes of cedar & tobacco mixed with floral notes of violets, loam, earthy/dusty, spices, tea, herbs, mushrooms, leather, minerals, cocoa & a slight hint of iron notes in the background. Medium bodied with a very concentration of well balanced & silky smooth textured, mature, ripe dark fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with spices, herbs, minerals & a hint of cedar. Long lingering smooth finish. The aromatics were absolutely stunning. Drinks quite well at present with decanting but at 44 years of age, it is at its peak of development. Although it depends on the condition of your particular bottle & how it was previously stored, it does not appear to be descending into decline yet. However, I would drink it very soon just to be on the safe side. Ullage was below neck into topmost portion of shoulder; cork was stained 3/4 up but intact. A lovely, aged Bordeaux.

  • Clean bottle. Developed and secondary with a lot in the way of blood and iron, red cedar, cigar box, spiced red berry. Tannins are velvety and integrated, near-completely reaolved. Fruit is still good and has juice, not too thin. No brett, not overly earthy, clean and pleasant overall. Pleased this was in good shape. Cigar ash.

(Château Palmer) Dark red violet color with pale meniscus; mature, mushroom, herbaceous, tobacco nose; tasty, maturing but in great shape, mushroom, herbaceous, tart plum palate; medium finish (from an absolutely pristine bottle, with a high fill)
