Had the bottle which was gifted to me by my good friend Fernand in the 90ies with our Thanksgiving Duck. It was a perfect match! The wine, decanted an hour before the meal came to the table, was like a sleeping giant: once decanted it slowly came alive, expanded and grew and gained complexity, intensity and interest along the way. Good balance, as well on the nose, where it showed red cherries, dried and stewed with a touch of wood smoke and finely grained tannins. On the palate it was harmonious with the underlying acidity coming slowly to the foreground, which added a nice counter-balance to the tannins which were at first much more noticeable. The wine went down very well and provided a lot of pleasure and joy. It was certainly much more complex, interesting and enjoyable than any of the other Sori Tildin's I had before and which were probably drunk much too early. Thank you Fernand for a great experience!

Decanter Gaja Masterclass - 30 Years of Legendary wine making presented by Gaia Gaja (Decanter FWE, The Landmark hotel, London): Coming from a 2009 memory of a wine rated 97 for us and friends this was a bit of a let down frankly albeit a lot better then the Costa Russi 1990 ( Papies 88-89). Definitely shows color and mych like the CR 1990 they have more color than the 2016s. Less pushed than the CR, more balanced and elegant with a nice floral side. Very healthy and the modernity of Gaja in the 90s did not seem to have blocked this wine from aging well. A solid 92-93 but questionable of the value.

Blueberries and mushrooms on the palate. Great structure with velvet tannins and a beautiful complexity. Very long mouthwatering finish. (Tasted at Decanter Fine Wine Encounter 2019 Masterclass.)
