A private lunch (Restaurant De Lage Vuursche, Lage Vuursche, NL): Top shoulder level. First bottle from a half case purchase at auction in 2020. In excellent condition, with a beautiful pale orange-golden colour, classic Coutet elegance, honey and orange marmalade, mature and harmonious with a lovely freshness and no signs of drying out.

Dinner at Alo. From memory. The fill was worryingly low (low-mid shoulder) so I brought a backup which wasn't opened. Cork was soaked through. Amber-orange colour. Palate was very mature, honey, lanolin, a little funk, marmalade, and spice. Palate showed alcohol, and was a little tired, just a little sweetness, actually a balanced palate. Enjoyable enough, but not a great bottle, and not as good as the other one.

Outstanding mature Barsac. From a beautifully preserved bottle ex-WineBid, the color was burnished deep orange. Immediately forthcoming lovely fragrance of burnt orange and pekoe tea. Medium full on the palate, excellent balance of sweet and acid, so not cloying. Not a heavyweight, elegant, refreshing and delicious. Coutet can age really well.

Dom Pérignon / Vosne-Romanée Tasting-cum-Lunch (Restaurant Slagerij De Beurs, Amsterdam, NL): Very top shoulder / base of neck. Pale golden colour, bright and fresh and lively, lovely pure roti, juicy and fresh, creamy, spicy vanilla, marvellous. Unbelievable that this is half a century old. Stunning Sauternes.

Outstanding color. Orange in color. Delicious apricot, honey, hint of saline and salted plum. Perfect drinking by itself as dessert.
