This was really a good bottle! Still a lot of good black fruits like cassis, also firm but pleasant and a bit drying tannin as well as good complexity. A very pleasant surprise and this could have lasted at least another 3 years.
This is something really special!!! Mature sherry impressions in the bouquet with flor and nuts. On the palate chocolate, currants, nuts and so much more which I cannot describe. Firm amount of sweetness. Goes through the whole mouth and is enormously complex and has an extremely long finish. Although I hardly feel fit to score wines like this, it really deserves 95 or 96 or maybe even more. This can probably last still for several decades.
France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Vin de Pays de l'Hérault
Mature bouquet. Black fruit juice on the palate. Soft tannin. Has clearly developed since my previous notes from 2007 and 2009. Still going strong and no real hurry.
France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Vin de Pays de l'Hérault
Earthy impressions in the bouquet beside the dark forest fruits. On the palate a lot of dark fruits again, soft tannin and bitterness. Still a very juicy wine although the finish is not extremely long.
Beautiful and elegant bouquet with earthy impressions. On the palate red as well as black forest fruits, beautiful acidity and still youthful a bit drying tannin. Good freshness. Beautiful wine with still a long life ahead.
Beautiful and complex, earthy bouquet. Beautiful mouth feel; very juicy, mainly black fruits. No more notes, but this wine is already a great pleasure. Possibly at its peak now for my taste, but it can certainly last for several years.
Just one glass; tasted half an hour after opening the bottle and keeping it aside while tasting several other wines and then tasted it again about an hour later. I write this down, because the difference was striking. The first sip offered beautiful and creamy juice with beautiful soft tannin and bitterness, impressive for a Hungarian red wine imho, but not stunning. The second sip, as said an hour later, the wine presented itself completely different; there was luxurious toasted oak, tobacco and cedar. It seemed to be even more full bodied and the fruits more dark. Really very exclusive. I went looking for the bottle to get some more, because I wanted to try again, but unfortunately the bottle was empty. To give myself a reference I want to score this…in the beginning 89 - 90, the second sip 94+. For now I will score it 92, but it could well be this wine deserves a 95. Have to find some bottles.
Some pleasant barnyard in the bouquet. On the palate mature and beautiful with soft tannin and elegant acidity. No mistake about it this is a great wine, but this bottle was less complex than expected. Will probably offer great pleasure between now and the next two years, but I wonder if this bottle was already on its way down…
A lot of barnyard/horse stable in the bouquet. Maybe even a bit too much. On the palate however the wine is still great; a lot of sweetness, but also a lot of elegance. I did not make more notes this time, but I have a few bottles, so there will be a follow up.
Enormously youthful and lush. Ripe black fruits, soft and creamy tannin and a lot of sweetness. Will improve and probably show more complexity with a few more years of ageing. Next try 2014.
Full bodied and yet elegant. Very juicy fruits and garrigue. A beautiful Southern Rhône wine. Already opening up, but will be a pleasure for at least the next 5+ years.
Some earthy impressions and black fruits in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Some red fruits as well. Pleasant amount of acidity and friendly tannin. Long finish. Beautiful wine already and for at least the next 5+ years.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Beautiful juice! Red as well as black fruits. Beautiful spiciness/garrigue. Not as rustic as many Pégau wines can be. The tannin is soft and pleasantly sticky. Good concentration and a lot of good freshness. A beautiful c9duP. Ready now and at least another 5 - 8 years ahead.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Juicy wine, mainly black forest fruits and black cherries, a bit drying tannin in the finish. Good juice although not extremely complex. Will improve with another 3 - 5 years of ageing. Next try around 2014 - 2015.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Beautifully concentrated and complex wine. Mostly black fruits, beautiful herbs and spices. In early maturity stage now and lovely. Drink between now and the next 10 years. A feast!
Well, what to say…… No score…. But for the rest; although very mature still alive. Beautiful mature bouquet with still luxurious oak. No fruits left and tertiary tastes, but still pleasant acidity and silky soft tannin. Still a pleasure to drink, but definitely too old. Not really a surprise for this vintage. It was an honor that a friend shared this bottle with me!
Very concentrated wine with a lot of orange peel, honey, apricots and polishing wax. Beautiful acidity behind it. Definitely beautiful with foie or a sweet desert.
Beautiful wine with some earthiness, red as well as black fruits, beautiful oak and very much a good example of a concentrated and complex Barolo. A truly great wine already and probably for another decade.
This was a very disappointing bottle. Very mature in the bouquet as well as on the palate. Unpleasant organic smells. This bottle was past its prime and considering my previous notes and the other notes in CT, this was most likely an off bottle. I hope so. No score.
A lot of orange peel, apricots and honey. Beautiful acidity and good bitterness. A beautiful and concentrated, complex wine with still a good future at least for another 5+ years.
Extremely concentrated and sweet, backed up by good acidity. Apricots, caramel and honey. A beautiful wine alright and impressive because of the enormous concentration, but lacking the complexity of the truly great wines. 92 is an excellent score.
A lot of sweetness balanced by good acidity. Very ripe black forest fruits. Soft tannin. Good concentration. A beautiful wine. Drink now and the next 5 years.
USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District
Popped and poured (almost a crime). Beautiful and concentrated black fruit juice and soft, powerful tannin. Really hope to taste this again under better conditions and at least 5 years from now. 94+
Beautiful earthy bouquet. Concentrated black forest fruits. Firm acidity. Complex and beautiful wine. Beginning of maturity now, but will probably improve a bit over the next two years or so.
