Introduction

We all sent a shortlist of our best red wines for the others to vote for with a score for the wines. Everybody had to bring the red wine with the highest score. The whites were decided by everyone themselves. It was a beautiful selection of wines!

  • 1978 Château Lafleur 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Very mature and still beautiful wine. Earth, mushrooms, still juicy dark berries, forest floor, some pleasant sweetness and still fresh acidity. Imho the wine is past its peak, but still a feast to taste. I don’t know who brought this wine, but thank you! A unique experience!

  • 1986 Château Léoville Las Cases Flawed

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

In the bouquet and on the palate very earthy and the slightly corked impressions seemed to disappear, but the wine was not fresh. So no score.

  • 2006 Château Cheval Blanc 96 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

In the bouquet creamy red and dark berries. On the palate Cab. Franc and some bell pepper, but also beautifully ripe fruits. A bit rustic and earthy. Beautiful acidity and tannin. Still youthful. If I had a bottle, I would probably wait at least another 5 years.

  • 1986 Château Mouton Rothschild 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Beautiful dark berries and impressions of earth in the bouquet. On the palate the same impressions, autumn forest, firm acidity and length. Lacks some refinement at the moment, but I think that is because the wine is still too young. Nevertheless a great experience again. 96+
