This was very good but the oak felt a tad out of sync. A St Nikolaus 2016 had next to it smoked it clearly. I think this might come into its own with some more bottle age and is a very good wine. Just not fully sync'd today. 91-92

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2014 (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Glass: Gabriel Universal
Bottle opened ~10h before the tasting. I was flashed from this vintage right after release and had high hopes. Not as exiting as expected, but very good. Clear, medium golden color. Fine, fruity, dense nose. On the palate smoky, salty, precise, deep and dense, with a nice tension and good length. Full peak. 92-93

Bottled for second fermentation in May 2019 then disgorged 23 months later in April 2021.

It poured a very transparent straw color with a very aggressive and lively mousse!

Extremely surprising how tertiary this wine feels? Not in an any kind of bad way but you'd expect a fresh and young Riesling and you're met with something giving off a lot more tertiary notes.
Nose gave off green apple, quince, citrus but the only scent that was really and extremely dominant was walnuts. It blew off some with air but still stayed quite a lot with some wet stone coming in as well.

Palate started off in the same way... Walnuts all over it with some acidic green apple, quince, citrus, a bit of yeasty toast and the wet/crushed stone again. Great acidity and a really nice tertiary depth and complexity but that walnut note was really dominating, though blowing off a bit.

12.5% vol
A gorgeous nose here: a hint of smoke, lovely floral white fruits, pineapple and more exotic yellow fruits besides. This quickly opens further, with notes of orange, soft red fruits, syrupy white flowers, honey and a touch of vanilla. Expressive, pure, great definition and a sense of creaminess too.

The palate is similarly exciting and direct with bags of fleshy yellow and orange fruits, honeyed touches and hints of toast and oak. This is lightly grippy and playful, there are salty pockets, lovely tangy acidity, notes of spicy flowers, and a silky-almost-creamy quality. Wow! So much to love now, but clearly worthy of cellaring, and should appeal to Burgundy lovers too.

Northernmost part of Oestrich; western slope; lots of iron oxide and quartz (redder soils).
18m elevage, 100% fuder – a 3yr and an 8yr old barrel.

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2012 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, deep golden color. A bit oxidized nose, a bit old and tired.
On the palate apple must, jodine, very mineral. Like an old Champagne without bubbles. Bottle was not flawed, but just past peak. 87-88

Brought to a Thai Restaurant by a friend.

Outstanding wine! Ripe, concentrated yellow fruit, yet very balanced. Quite full-bodied for a Riesling.
After having the wine with food, I could sense some wood on the palate, anyway if there is wood it is perfectly integrated.

First impression, a high quality glass bottle and a high quality cork you normally don't expect from a village wine (Ortswein) and normally only is used when bottling a GG.

PnP, 12% Alc., quite full yellow color.

Nose: Reduction, a bit green, flavors you normally associate with spontaneous fermentation and corresponding mineral impressions. Good, like it.

Palate: Fresh, a touch green with a dry mouthfeel. Concise acidity, the quite strong reduction hardly lets through any Riesling typical flavors. Nevertheless, drink animating, with a good balance and harmony. So, very well made, modern, international but possibly totally interchangeable. Where is the classic Rheingau Riesling in this wine?

Am trying hard to love Riesling GG and keep exploring different producers and vintages but I merely like it. Whether its this Kuehn, the expensive Keller, Wittmann, von Winning Forster etc in Germany, or a FX Pichler and Hirtzberger in Wachau/Austria, all those wines are for me firmly planted in the lower 90s score range. The only truly remarkable bottle of dry Riesling I have had was a bottle of Hermannshoehle from Doenhoff with remarkable minerality some time ago but then I had other bottles that were merely nice. The sweeter Kabinetts or even the Spaetlese/Auslese are great of course but I struggle to drink more than a glass or two given the sweetness.
This Kuehn has a fairly evolved light golden color, looks like at least 10-15 years old based on color alone. The usual faint petrol nose, on the palate loads of citrus and acidity, much fresher than the recently tasted 2014 vintage of the same wine but otherwise fairly simple and foursquare in my eyes, good length as the acidity and citrus linger for quite some time on your tongue.
Overall good fresh white but for me miles away in terms of complexity and minerality from a top Chardonnay from Burgundy or Downunder (Kumeu, Heytesbury etc). But that is just my personal view. Rating at a rather generous 92 points here, would take a humble St. Aubin 1er Cru from PYCM anytime over this wine and any of those GG peers.

Dinner at Sun Wah (Chicago, IL): #08-16, 13% abv. I have no idea what this vineyard is. In fact, my handwritten note had this vineyard as "Daarsberg". Yes, that's how illegible the label is. In any case, this is basically riesling in peach form. There's so much white peach flavour here. Rounded and fruity, but not sweet at all. I like the balance here -- this is not too acidic, as some GGs end up being. A bit of a softer GG, I found this quite enjoyable.

This is my first experience with bone dry German Riesling. Glistening red gold color, incredible aromatics of petrol and tropical fruits, dry, lots of acids supported by immense dry extract, long finish. Grand cru levels of quality.

Komplex, vielschichtig, Erinnerte an Meer.

92-95+? Trinken: 2018-2030. Best: 2019-2025?

Finally i tried the first of my bottles of this controversial discussed Riesling. Drank over 3 days. Glass: Stölzle Quatrophil Bdx.
Subtle, ultradeep and very multilayered nose, nearly without any fruit, warm tones or sweetness: green and ginger tea, woodruff, fir needle, mustard seed, granny smith, laurel, eucalyptus, savoy, smoke, stone...
On palate very cool, slim, with electrifying wiriness, agility and freshness.
Green tea, sweetsour applerings, mint, eucalyptus, some sensations of toffee as a surprising counterpoint before its forcing acidity and saline minerality lead into a long intense and animating finish.
For me, this is an outstanding and spectacular wine with an ultimately unique character. In terms of music this isn´t Pop or Classic, it´s high fidelity analogue techno right in your face! Precise, energetic, totally surprising and hypnotising. You cant´t make it better, just different. Emotionally 100 Points!
As M_arcon already mentioned: Not everybody will love or even like this wine, but if you like it bonedry, fresh and electrifying, you most possibly will! And about the aging potential: It drinks so well today - not a big development over three days - and it has almost no fat on the hips. Hm..., time will tell. Cant´t wait anyway to drink the next bottle!

We drank this with a salad, made of chicken, lettuce, peanuts, paprika, egg and with a sauce of peanut butter, lemon, ginger and koriander. I had forgotten this Kabinett is not very sweet at all. Like with many Rieslings from the region, the nose is very nice and it fits the dish; the taste however was less of a success. Or actually, it starts great, interacting with the coriander and nively bringing out the chicken. It's fresh and sweet, but then, there is a more acidic phase; not too bad; followed by a biiter 'thoomb' on the middle of the tongue, as if I'm drinking tonic. We tasted the wine at the vineyard and this did not stand out at the time, so it may be interaction with the food; although the effect remained after dinner. It needs other food for sure. Btw we visited a number of vineyards in the region and this one was by far our favourite-- but perhaps more for the other Rieslings than for this one.

One first try of this bottle , a gift from good friends,
as nearly always I am prejudiced about Riesling sparklers, Riesling for me is the best white grape, showing complexity and more, but as a sparkler.......hmmmm,
good freshness here, but the fruit, peach and more tropical fruit with too much sweetness in the finish, good grip, fine bubbles, but lacking complexity and the mineral showing you will find in nearly every high class bottle Riesling, starting with Ortswein (village) from better producers, I do miss, just enjoy, no indulging here......., good entry level sparkler but nothing more, *, around 84, 85
