I figured the group would enjoy this, and maybe more than me. Recent experiences with Pahlmeyer had been a bit disappointing - some big wines with a lot of heat and wood. Fortunately, that was not the case here. Age and some decanting likely helped, although this was in pretty form immediately out of the bottle. A very pretty forward nose of cassis, smoke, mulberry, graphite and wood spice with later hints of roasted game. The palate has a great texture and depth, caressing the tongue as it glides across; a multitude of dark red and black fruits, cassis, blackberry, mulberry, and dark cherry along with a savory, roasted meat note on the mid and back end, graphite with medium grained round tannins on a long finish. Alcohol was in check. Very enjoyable. 92+ to 93pts. |

The nose is clean, with medium (+) black cherry, red currant and very nicely integrated sweet baking spices. The palate is dry but very fruit forward, consistent with the nose. The acidity and tannins are medium, whereas the alcohol is high at 15.2%. Still, the alcohol does not appear overly hot and is nicely integrated. Overall, this Merlot has a very smooth and rich mouthfeel. It is easier to pair with food than a Cabernet of the same flavor profile. Drinking well now, but it has many years left. |

Powerful nose with some spice. Palette is vanilla, lavender and violet. And some toasted oak, but just a hint. Very round and luscious. Medium long finish. A full bodied wine with delicate features. Sumptuous. Certainly has the stuffing to leave laying down for a few more years if you like, but wouldn't be scared to pop now. |
