We had it alongside 1993. When just poored the 1993 outshone this wine, but after 15/30 minutes... Spicy, powerful nose. Such a development in the glass... this is truly great. It just goes on and on and on... This has incredible reserves, this is potentially so great. Perfect balance. Incredible complexity. 20/20 |

7/9/2007 - AJ72 wrote: 100 pointsTasted at annual DBGCBU lunch: Nose had an incredible lift, slightly reductive, hugely intense and pure minerality. A perfume that defies description, with every nuance every detail expressing the climat like a well conducted orchestra. The palate also had the same qualities, huge intensity and layers of flavour. A hugely seductive voluptuous wine but not in the blockbuster sense. Pure Burgundian royalty. Tasted next to the 93 CHA which looked very adolescent and yet to spread its wings. Brilliant. |

The definition to the aromas and palate are mindblowing. Almost reduced to tears. This is the yardstick of great Burgundy for me. This bottle was every bit as good as the last (see note). Truly extraordinary that one can be moved as much the second time around. |

2/14/2024 - Sean Tay Likes this wine: 100 points2004 is a relatively weak vintage and it boil down to to wine maker. So far, I enjoyed tasting 2004 vintage because is at its peak. Not sure how long the peak will last but certainly it’s singing now. Pronounced nose intensity with very elegant and balanced notes of violet, flora, mushroom, red fruits, spices, toast. The nose is extremely aromatic. The finish is long. Medium acidity and medium tannin. This is truly enjoyable. |

In no way the closed and surly wine I had anticipated to encounter, but aren't truly great wines great at any age? Perfection. Half a century in it at least. |

4/23/2017 - MattLA Likes this wine: 100 pointsFirst of all, the aromatics are off the charts. This wine is fruit filled, minerally elegance with a long balanced finish. I wish I had a lot more of this. I'll save my last bottle and drink it in ten years. |

Obviously very youthful, but pure cherry fruit that's incredibly delineated. Finish goes on and on. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

Simply perfect nose displaying perfectly ripe blackberries, cornucopia of flowers, coffee beans, exotics spices, a hint of vosne spice and mineral. The nose remains perfect but constantly evolving and changing. Though so much going on in the nose, all components interplay beautifully and perfectly harmonious. Deceptively light as the palate is incredibly polished and silky. Perfect balance and precision. Despite being young, incredibly complex and drinking perfectly. I recall Jeremy H and Paul H mentioned this is actually better than the Beze. I didn’t think so earlier but now I agree based on this example. The Beze is more intense but this is even purer and more precise. One of the greatest young wines of my life. Perfect in every way! The best wine unanimously. |

From the first sip it was clear this was not only drinkable but utterly sublime due to its silky structure focused aromatics. Very light and shiny ruby color. The aromas included red fruit, a touch of barnyard, licorice, earth. The elegance was simply fantastic and on par with the two DRC's we drank a day before. WOW, hands down one of the best burgundies I ever had and a clear 100 pointer wine! A pity that this wine is not only expensive but also hard to source. |

A Rousseau Beze from, hands down, the best red Burg vintage I can recall. Sure hope so but if not, Ill long savor tonight's 2010 / Rousseau Beze Burgundy tasty perfection. For me, the only way this wine could possibly improve is with further age which will then likely make a 110pt wine for me :). This was universally adored by all 5 who shared it's pleasures tonight. This saw a short decant and proving it was singing went back into the btl with hopes it would stay as great when we got to it after 4 champagnes and 5 white Burgs This was the lone red tonight. And it came on the heels of several inspiring, head shaking champagnes & whites. Think this was the only wine not shared with the staff? It was a "very good night indeed" as Clive Coates would say :). |

12/8/2020 - La Flama Blanca Likes this wine: 100 pointsMuscular, dense and virile Chambertin. A Burgundy of tension and bracing energy that is transcendental and deeply beautiful. It is fantastically complex and expressive in the glass showing sweet and richly textured fruits, scorched earth and exotic spice on the minéralité finish. An imposing Burgundy that captivates and penetrates the soul. WOTN! |

8/10/2013 - AJ72 wrote: 100 pointsGreat Dinner Wines (Healesville Victoria): I was lucky enough to try this ten years ago and at the time I thought great wine but will it ever evolve into the stunning Chambertin wines I had seen previously? In its youth it had all the silk and composure of a great wine but gave absolutely no indicator of the greatness it would one day express as it did tonight. Yes it was Grand cru pedigree but that majestic aroma of Chambertin was not present, not even a tiny bit. In short when I first tried this wine ten years ago it did not in any way resemble the wine we had tonight. I realise now with experience tasting the wines from this region what a waste it was to open this ten years earlier. This vineyard and the Clos de Beze from Rousseau have produced the most electrifying wine experiences I've ever had in my life. This 99 is the absolute top of the tree. I have only scored a few 100 pointers but I can not express how profound this wine was to me and a unanimous favourite around the table. A perfume so perfect and a palate to match. Extraordinary length. On this showing I would say perfect maturity. My only suggestion is you try it now before you die and the 99 La Tache but you'll need to wait another twenty years for that wine to show its best. Incredible. Check out my original note ten years ago on this wine. I had no idea! |
